Probably my favorite new sticky thread...
I had some free time so I wanted to work on some of my Android skills going forward. Everything from design to monetization. So in the process I tried out a lot of things I read about but never had the chance to investigate;
- First time using MVP, while I was never a big fan of it, once I implemented the unit testing portion it was magical. Cut hours off my dev time
- Databinding. A little finicky but I like the idea. I found it worked really well for iterating on UI. I can change the layout and fields without messing in the code. However, it did have a lot of cryptic errors which were tough to track down.
- Vectors. Vectors, Vectors. If you haven't switched to using vectors you really should. They make things small, more efficient and much easier to use. I did have to learn to use illustrator but its a great tool once you learn it.
- Fiverr. While it seems great for everything from store description to app reviews, for the most part I found it mediocre. It's almost like you get what you pay for.
- Facebook ads. Meh, didn't get a high fill rate although the ads looked better on the device. AdMob is working better.
- IAP to get rid of ads...Note to self; people really don't like ads. If you send me a PM I can send a promo code to get rid of the ads. They're a pain but the weather feed isn't free so I don't want to go broke running the app.
- User feedback. Well still working on this one. I'll let you know if this reddit thread works.
Let me know what you think of the app and design. It's my first crack at my own design so any feedback on that would be great.
