A lot of such games were released for PSP and especially Vita (not yet emulated decently though). Some are available on android but emulating is recommended since you get none of the platform's BS:
Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1/PSP/android), or FFT Grimoire A2 on DS (runs great on DraStic) / Disgaia / Fire Emblem / Advance Wars / Vandal Hearts 1/2
The banner saga (available on android)
Mystery of fortune series (android)
Mystery of Fortune 2 is pretty close. It becomes a total grindfest after a certain point though.

More heroes in your party, but dungeons time to beat increases with every new dungeon. So mid-game dungeons can take up to 5-10 mins to complete.
It's also less active, for example you create a party then watch them fight through the dungeon, only using potions throughout.
The leveling of heroes is a lot more in depth, and also there are custom rule sets for heroes to follow (attack enemy with highest def, use special after a certain amount of mana).
It goes free every couple of months.
As far as I'm aware there isn't multiplayer (been a while since I played) and tbh I played it through once and haven't played it since although I definitely would replay it the campaign has a decent length to it.
For MoF this is the one I play.
That's Mystery of fortune 2, it's a game I'd been watching for a while and wasn't sure about but when it went on sale I grabbed it and would've been happy paying full price.
You hire soldiers and run your squad, level them to earn skills give them an Ai and let them run through dungeons for items/money.
I play it a lot when I'm doing other things and just check it every few minutes.
Star Billions is a cute game that folder is full of games I've stopped playing but don't want to uninstall yet, I played it at work during breaks with no WiFi, I stopped because I really got back into xcom again.
Edit for a bit of extra detail, it's kind of like a visual novel which you follow a story and pick which character to support at each option and there's real time gaps which you can cut out with mini games.
I can't wait for the next chronicles!
> But I'm still dreaming of a day when one mobile game successfully introduces FFXII Gambit System style AI

> You need to set up a fighting AI called battle macro to units before the battle starts. For example, you could set up the best strategy for battles by assembling condition and run sentence like - “Use skill when encounters enemy in close range” and “Heal yourself when you lost 50% HP”.
Mystery of fortune 2 is pretty much what you've described.
