You can check out my own app, MyTrails. The free version is fully functional, contains no ads and has tens of maps (more can be imported).

Mytrails has an option for altimeter calibration.
I just searched for trail maps and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frogsparks.mytrails looks pretty cool.
Buy this cheap android phone with a ridiculously large battery. i.e. OUKITEL K10000 and a €20 MicroSD card
Buy a €0.10 silicone plug for the headphone port and stick a piece of tape over the front speaker. The phone is now waterproof.
Use a quick release handle bar clamp to mount the phone. superglue the clamp to the phone.
Install MyTrials. It has ~25 free maps installed (Google, yahoo, MS, Ovi, OSM, Lonvia MTB etc; 4umaps and map1.eu have the best trails in France). You can also buy/rent the France topographical maps. You can download all maps to the 32/64GB microSD card.
If you only need 1-day battery between charging, buy any 5000mAh+ phone and a compatible 2-piece hybrid armored rugged case. glue one part to the handlebar mount, the other half stays on the phone.
