You can go on PadGuide, go to the monster, and click on the video button on the bottom right. https://i.imgur.com/KwCypS9.png
It automatically searches youtube with the japanese name.
Roguelike dungeons: special dungeons that start your cards off at level 1. Your cards gain levels as floors are cleared.
Guerrilla dungeons: special dungeons that show up for a short time throughout each day.
Arena and Colosseum: End-game dungeons. A random py is guaranteed from clearing Arena. Arenas 2 and 3 include other goodies. Arena 2 is usually not farmed like A1 and A3 are. Colosseum is a very long roguelike dungeon somewhat similar to arena, but with a very different set of monsters, making the dungeon very different overall.
How to know what's coming up: a website called PADX and/or an app called PadGuide.
I've been playing the NA PAD since summer 2015, but started a JP account back in January. If there's one key bit of advice to give, the thing that's made the game playable for me in spite of knowing zero Japanese, it's to download PadGuide:
iOS - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/padguide-for-puzzle-dragons/id651949209?mt=8
Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dnt7.padguide&hl=en
I've been using PadGuide for ages (you can use it for the NA, JP and Korean builds), but the speed, accuracy and reliability with which it updates info on the Japanese version is just absurd. Plus, everything is listed in both English and Japanese, so I often check back and forth between the apps to match up symbols and be sure I'm selecting the right dungeons. There's even a "News" section that links in-app to all of GungHo's official posts, and includes a handy "translate" button, so you can always suss out the basics of what's being said.
For Godfests, there's an option to check out info on the most recent/upcoming Godfests, the normal REM lineup and the PAL lineup (in the "Event" tab, click on the 2 egg icon on the bottom right side of the screen). I just check that every few days to see if anything is coming up.
Also, Japan is 13 hours ahead of US EST, so 11am Friday is midnight Saturday (when all of the dungeons cycle over to the next day), 11pm is noon, and 3pm is when you get your login rewards.
But seriously, PadGuide is essential.
Pad Guide is your best friend for playing on JP.
And yeah, Goku is dope.
I went 5/8 on Gold Eggs hoping for him and ended up with 3 Gotenks, Vegeta, and Trunks. Cherish your Goku.
I use a combination of http://pad.skyozora.com/ and PadGuide (Android, iOS).
You are indeed correct assist is more towards the late game content, past rank 130 mark to be exact... so you can keep the monsters as they are for the time being without turning them into weapons! As for your current goals since that's a pretty fresh start right there this would be some of the things I would do if I started another account:
On an outside note, Barioth has TPA awakenings, in the form of arrow pointing from both ends. That means you get extra damage boost if you connect 4 orbs instead of 3. And if you encounter difficulty trying to make many combos like say... 7 and above... getting as much "finger pointing upwards" awakening in a team helps alot to practice with. After you get used to it, running with shorter time would be not a problem anymore.
Lastly, there's PADGuide for the Android, and the currently lagging behind in time PADX for the browser which contains a database of half the things everyone would want to know. It's a very useful tools all time round!
Hi. Here's a more detailed team recommendation :)
Warning: this is long
Diablos: one of the top meta leads. His skill cap is fairly high as you need 8 combos to use him(and even more as you'll be partnered with either R.Anubis or R.Kushi), but he does provide a 7x6 board which makes combos a bit easier
Also you can sorta-ignore Anubis' atk boost when activating a skill unlike double Anubis as the 7x6 board makes up for the damage, but you could farm up a "super gunma" [[440]] if you'd want a consistent x3 atk boost every turn.
R.Kush...well, I know people also partner Diablos with her. This pair can damage control as R.Kush is a "no skyfall" lead.
> Flex means "flexible spot", btw. There are likely improvements or other possible builds with Diablos team building, but this is time extend heavy(Yomi) to help maneuver the huge board and make combo-ing consistent.
> other notable subs are Tachibana, and Susano is revo form*
> possible inherits:Susano(long shield), maybe Tachibana, Oichi
> why all attributes(sub-atts count)? To make use of Diablos' "guard break" awakening that needs all colors to activate(must still match those).
> why those subs? 1.)Amatsu is a fantastic sub for the awakenings and coverage of 2 colors. 7cs and heart ping(resolve killer) are quite nice. Active is nice too. 2.) Nohime is kind off a better R.Haku. Her skill boost is very nice doubly so in 3p, and her active though the board is a bit of a downgrade does provide hearts and a 75% shield for squishier teams. 3.) Sima Yi well, nice awakenings and a neat orb unlock active. 4.) R.Yomi has fantastic stats, esp HP. Those TEs help in comboing, and since you won't be using her active much you're free to inherit on her.
*rule of the thumb is that if you only have one Susano or Indra, keep them in one of their non-awoken forms as their base skill is better for inheritance. Inherit guide.
Samurai 2(except Nohime): the RGB ones are fairly easy to use and hit hard, downside is the strict match4 play style and almost no damage control, but once you get used to it they are very capable. Tachibana is considered one of the lower tier meta leads and is mostly partnered with R.Sakuya. Why isn't Nohime good? Her partner, Awoken Durga doesn't have the best multiplier and is bindable.
I'd say either Nene or Oichi would be better for you as your fire box is lesser in size. Oh, their awoken forms are used as leads not base(their next evo is immediately awoken unlike other cards).
> possible-inherits: Nene on Nene, Sitri, Susano, Mercuria if you need burst, Tachibana as an offcolor inherit would also do
> Saras and Andro have awoken forms(A.Saras isn't in NA yet). Their awokens have better skills. For Andro it's a bit tricky, but seeing as you don't have Meri and have Nenes for double SBR anyhow, use her Awoken form(warning: Andro's awoken mats are harder to get than most awoken mats)
> possible-inherits: Ishida, Bacches if you need burst, Avalon Drake,Zuoh, also if you want more board changer there's "Cauchemar" his final form [[2894]] is inheritable(Zuoh board+shield)
Krishna: OK, you do have better leads but let me have this one, I always suggest a Krish team when I see him, sorry >~>;;
> mostly a TPA Krish team. Tsubaki's sub form(the one with the x2 dragon killers is used).
> possible-inherits: Tigrex, Dino Rider, Zuoh, Nohime, Inahime on Inahime
G/B Balboa(unbinable one) partnered with R.Artemis is easy to use and capable. Actually you could even partner with Julie [[3527]].
Verd, Sylvie, Oichi(cleric), are nice subs. Marine Rider has a nice active though it does eat hearts. Diablos is nice too. Inherit Skuld.
if Julie friend, sub in A.Andro and Skuld
Sima Yi: a decent partner with D.Athena, though you could also partner him with Aizen.
> I'd say this would be a great team, easy use and capable team too. Aizen trivializes most things.
Edit: Mizutsune Armor(whoops, almost forgot about him). Top tier coop combo lead.
> possible-inherits: base-form Nene on hunter, if using A.Sara's inherit Skuld to someone, off color but either Tachibana Nohime(board+high shield)
Other notable leads:
R.Astaroth:you don't have her core subs though and row teams have trouble with combo shields
Split ult D.Meta(the no sub-att one): pretty good, but HP conditional play style isn't for everyone and you don't have a "suicide active" (active skill that subtracts your HP). Though "Heracles" is farmable and inheritable one [[1098]].
Ars Nova: easy everyday farming lead, just slap on any sub that has both fire and light attributes(can be F/L or L/F, doesn't matter as long as they have both)
uuevo Ganesha: x1.5 exp and x2 gold! Most use"Nazca" [[384]] to get around the no atk mult of his, but when I'm feeling lazy I just partner him with a high damage lead. Meridionalis [[3515]] does wonders.
Gan Jiang & Yo Me: pretty easy to use too.
Misc, Ra: "Button team", for easy high-def but low hp enemies(preDRA, tamadra, tan dungeons)
> Ra/Valphalk/Jize/Balboa/maybe Tengu(farmable) or Avalon Drake as a skill boost stick
> *note: if solo button farming, count your skill boosts(most buttons are coop, but sometimes one just wants to spend stamina alone)
For mono vs rainbow:
The jist is mono color teams focus on a single color so you technically have a higher damage capability than rainbow teams who have to match all colors to do damage. Also, usually mono color teams have better damage control of sorts as you only have to remember the main attribute(usually) unlike with a rainbow who has the damage scattered.
Mono color teams are less hungry in a sense as they usually need only one color while rainbow needs all colors(you can still get orb screwed with a mono color though).
Oh, elemental rock paper scissors apply to PAD but Dark and Light are neutral to RGB except to each other. Half if weak, twice if strong against that att, it doesn't apply if the enemy hits us(enemies fortunately don't do twice damage if we're a weaker att.)
Misc, PAD sources: PADX site, PADGuide app. Check out cards and dungeons there. Some dungeons have gimmicks that might need counters or strategies while some you can safely go through.
Hope that helped!
Edit: (uh, the [[#]] are supposed to summon tamabot to link the pages. Tamabot, where are you? Did I link wrong...)
PadGuide is a third party app that's a PAD database and has other neat features.
You can get all PaD region APKs from here or here. Download and install it as you would any other android APK. If you're using a rooted phone, you may need to use the HK/TW version, which is the same as the JP version except without some collabs and it doesn't check for root.
For news, I just hang around this subreddit - usually someone in the comments of news articles is nice enough to translate the Japanese. If you're looking for something like PADX, use PadGuide, or if you're okay with dealing with google translate, Skyzora - but mostly for godfest news and updates and stuff I just stick around the subreddit.
Was it this app? by chance. This was the first one to come up.
Hello, your starting rolls are definitely good enough to keep. Fujin is a very rare roll with a unique active skill that will make your life easier mid to late game, and whenever you can afford the team cost, you can lead with her and have Liu Bei as a sub. However, she does not have Attacker typing until she evolves.
Kahzgul wrote a newbie guide, it should answer most of the things you're unsure about. As for general advice that I'd give a new player...

Its an amazing resource for that game, actually breaks down the units, dungeons, and events.
Get PadGuide. That link is for Android, but there's an iPhone version too.
PADGuide also has a full overview of the dungeon, all in English.
