Puzzlecraft 2 is no longer avaliable, I just happened to still have it on the phone. Servers are dead by now but you can still play offline, which is one of the reasons I would prefer offline
Puzzle Forge 1 & 2 might interest you, more mechanical complex than "Merchant" but they are really just match 3 gamed with blacksmith as the theme.

puzzle forge: I'm done with this. reached lvl6, got all the basic upgrades and one advanced (they cost 10 times as much), crafted every tier 4 weapon, pleased half the heroes (not like that), but I'm not very good at these 'match 3 to get 1 higher tier' kinda things, can't think very far ahead and stuff always ends up at the wrong place, so I'll never reach tier 5 in anything, let alone 7. every 'run' gets you some money and reputation, so they're not in vain, but since I suck, they aren't exactly pouring in either. not gonna watch ads or pay real money for more gold either.
puzzle forge 2: it uses the exact same music, some of the graphics and even item descriptions, but item placement is a bit different: you can't take back the last piece you put down, nor can you break molds, but tier 2+ mats need to be held to place, so no more accidents, except due to lag (it runs slower on my shitty phone) or when I try to pick up a weapon and put an ore down next to it instead. task switching doesn't work either, when I switch back, it restarts the game every time, and there are ads now after every day, but with wifi off it's not an issue, and achievements are online-only, but statistics and collections are still available offline.
guards now take any crap you sell them, no more shady dudes showing up at night, gold is now only used to buy stuff (stock changes every in-game day with the occasional discounts), and you get gems when you level up and when a year passes (40 days, I think) and use them on upgrades. I like the extra info when a hero requests an item (except when it's 'with good speed', yeah, thanks) and you can store extra items in case you need something quickly. pleased heroes can give you stuff as well, many more of them in this one. there are also seasons (not only cosmetic, rain in autumn randomly cools squares, etc.), contracts (some are timed, like irl 1 week to make 40 staffs), quests, challenges (I don't stand a chance), sausages, tournaments and whatnot. so a lot more to do.
also a lives system, which is unfortunate, but when you lose them all by not fulfilling customer orders, it just clears your score and the board, as far as I can tell there's no real penalty, though quest level resets as well, that's kind of a bummer. and since you don't need to farm gold anymore for upgrades, it's even less of an issue, for me at least. items are expensive but I try not to spend much, just like in the first game, but I'm looking out for gem fragments, if you get 4, extra skill point, and sometimes random mats or molds can come in handy too.
so most things improved, some not so much, the worst being performance for me, but gonna play until I can make decent progress (still not paying real money or watching ads), then look for something else, but it's pretty cool and I'd actually pay for a de-mobilized version for pc, no ads/iap, rebalancing, etc.
this 10-day rotation thing for the stickies is still far from ideal, this was written for last week (and posted on /r/games at least), this week's stuff is in a separate comment below again...
puzzle forge (android): I think I'm done with this. reached lvl6, got all the basic upgrades and one advanced (they cost 10 times as much), crafted every tier 4 weapon, pleased half the heroes (not like that), but I'm not very good at these 'match 3 to get 1 higher tier' kinda things, can't think very far ahead and stuff always ends up at the wrong place, so I'll never reach tier 5 in anything, let alone 7. every 'run' gets you some money and reputation, so they're not in vain, but since I suck, they aren't exactly pouring in either. not gonna watch ads or pay real money for more gold, but I'm curious to find out what the sequel's like, so that's gonna be next.
gems of war (f2p): I'm done. got a legendary unit I was actually using, all kingdoms are lvl4, some are lvl5, I'm lvl125+ myself and 20 as a necro and got my class weapon. did all the kingdom quests and every challenge once (not 5 times), spent my in-game currencies on random crap, not saving up for anything in particular. the guild's still pretty much dead, didn't even hit 10k again. would've been nice to join another one before I stop and spend all my seals on lvl4 chests at least, but I just dumped them into lvl3 ones, whatever. more of the same will be welcome whenever the puzzle quests or similar titles hit more than 50% off and/or if I find something similar for free on mobile, which is unlikely. also, puzzle quest will probably be really awkward after this, the interface and stuff, that's why I play things in order, but it'll be quite some time until I start playing them, so we'll see.
lara croft go: as I said last week, the fire and mirror dlcs are pretty tough, and I was just about ready follow a walkthrough because respawning enemies serving as timers is a shitty mechanic and ruin all the enjoyment I had with the game previously, but I decided to keep trying instead. managed 1 more level in the fire dlc (4/13 done) and no progress in the mirror dlc since last week (2.5/11 done). gonna take a while...
peg: completed the 5 remaining hexagon levels since last week and also the first level of the double diamond board. fucking finally! the developer gave me a hint last week, but I decided to keep trying for a while and it was worth it. still no luck with the only unsolved circle level though, the other nemesis of mine (and everybody else's on the forums), plus there's the final board with 32 levels, haven't started it yet. what I did was 30 dailies for the achievement I don't normally care about, but I really like this game. not gonna touch dailies anymore though, not my thing.
push: finally sat down for a second 'real' session and passed level 50. tried it a few times before, but I was always in a bad mood and way too impatient to figure it out. level 53 was also really tricky for my small brain, 59 as well, and in the latter I managed to make some progress somehow once, but couldn't reproduce it after fucking it up. I still don't understand how arrows work exactly, which made the game a lot more frustrating and all about trial & error.
the next morning I brute forced 59, but without underastanding how it works exactly, it wasn't really satisfying, more like let's get it over with. on 63 I wasn't even trying to understand anymore, just kept trying all the variations, fuck this. and fuck the rotated perspective sometimes, like on 65, which I partially solved, then after a while just looked up the next step, I was really sick of it by then. this turned out to be the last 'real' level, I was expecting 70 altogether, but thankfully it was over sooner (and in another sense a lot later) than expected. the previous games by the same developers were great, this not so much, too bad...
access denied: found out about it recently, picked it up in the halloween sale. it's a mystery box kinda puzzle game, rotate them and figure out how to open them. neat concept, looks good, you can zoom and rotate all you want (not just every 90 degrees or something), 36 levels, should take about an hour, but I got stuck on level 20. skipped it for the time being, seemingly got stuck on 21 as well, then randomly solved it, so I had to look up what I did. well, not what I was supposed to do, so it's probably a bug. gonna try to figure out level 20 next time and continue from level 24.
zombie vikings: another week of no progress, my co-op buddy keeps playing other stuff...
Puzzle Forge sounds right up your alley. There are two of them, both F2P, but perfectly playable without paying. Think Triple Town-craft.
~~First one~~
~~Second one~~
[EDIT] Deeeeerp. So, the first one is Android only, the second is iOS. Here you go.
If you have an Android device, there's a free game called Puzzle Forge that I think you'll really like.
