I did the app for Android and it does exactly what you ask. But to prevent cheating (riding the bike instead of running, for example), the competition is won by whoever has more environmental challenges. Score = distance * weather/altitude.
Also has teams and long term championship competition. I'm using it since February already. I find it hard to explain to users the concept. Maybe someone wants to test it and I can improve it, if he/she likes the idea.
Go check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme
I made an app for Android only. Has a similar feature like yours, plus many more. I'm open for partnership, as I find it hard to port it on my own to iOS. Right now I'm making a wearable device for it. Check the application closely, and complete a run/walk, so you can have an idea about it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme

The winter season started recently and there isn't any activity yet.
If we could get 3-4 teams to join the competition would be fun, but I'm too lazy to recruit users.
I'm using the app since 8-10 months ago and in a couple of weeks I'll finish a wearable device for it :) I'm very excited.
I believe that there isn't much correlation between data tracking and motivation and perseverance.
Is the habit, routine and addition which is developed by spending more time thinking at running.
Although I use an application to track and log my exercises, in the end are the results which matters to me, be that logged on an app or not.
What is interesting, I made an application specifically for creating this routine, which some call it motivation or perseverance.
My app connects runners and let's them exercise virtual together in real time. Has good social features, does pretty much what other apps do, except that the purpose is not statistics, but the fun, excitement and social interaction.
Unfortunately, people are looking for familiar features and don't spend enough time with it to experiment it.
I didn't made fake accounts to create the illusion of a busy community, as it happens in most of the apps.
If anyone is interested to check it, this is the Google Play listing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme
I use the one I wrote myself, Run With Me.
When I wrote it, I wanted to be free, no ads, no hidden products (like shoes you used when ran), no lies (calories for example), no false suggestions (x product will make you superstar).
Honestly I didn't had much success with it because I wanted to be like in real life. In real life you don't stand in the middle of the couch, then press a button and start running; you plan, you follow a discipline, you want accurate data.
Is not as straight as others, but it does its job. If anyone wants to try it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme
The fun begins only after starting to run, so have patience.
Actually I like the app I made. Is the gamification part which makes it interesting.
Unfortunately I can't convince people to switch from stats to fun.
Is just in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme
Hey jay. I've tested Asics' application. Dead simple, but it does its job. I made my own application, if you want to try it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=twohats.net.runwithme
It doesn't make plans, but I do! I ran a half marathon before losing 10kg in 5 months. But I have some athletics experience :/
