Don't think I meet those qualifications.
But I do use this app to copy all kinds of unicode stuff. You can add your own preset unicode emoticons and I happen to have a few ayy lmao dudes saved in there. I found them from some other comment on reddit months ago.
I've always found the Android Facebook app a bit shit. I've been using the Tinfoil for Facebook app for ages as a replacement. Bonus - you can use messenger from within the app.
Tinfoil works good too if you still want an app icon on your phone. Its basically just an app wrapper to the mobile website. Been using it for awhile now since the FB app & Messenger seem to kill my battery pretty quickly.
EDIT: Quite a bit of conversation about Tinfoil; here is the link to the app on the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
> But people don't use lite versions!! They don't want to use them and you can't make them use them.
Facebook Lite has over 500 million installs. Messenger Lite has 100-500 million installs. Sounds more like your logic is you don't want to use a lite version and therefore nobody would want to use one.
> I just can't picture a market for go devices at
Android Go is for someone who wants to upgrade from their featurephone and use the web, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, email, and a couple basic games like Sudoku. That market is much larger than you are claiming.
I wish I was joking mate. Here's a screenshot of my dev console.. I've sent two emails to Google already. It's kind of ridiculous as the free version has already seen 2 updates in the time I've been waiting for Pro to release.
Obligatory Swipe for Facebook link: <strong>Swipe for Facebook</strong>
Currently organizing a way to be able to provide the Pro APK to Pro users. Will be back to edit this comment in a bit.
Edit: Seems the PMing code thing works best. Here's my solution: So I've got maybe 100 codes to spare that I can give away for the Pro Key in the free version of Swipe (the one where you can do an in-app purchase to unlock pro). For previous pro users, if you can find the receipt email when you purchased Swipe Pro and PM me your order number, I'll PM you a code. It should look something like this: GPA.3375-4381-5814-78494
Edit 2: Okay, it's like 1:30 AM here in Thailand now. Going to have to go to bed soon. Will just do my last inbox check and will be back to PM those codes in the morning!
I'm using flamingo, for me it's the best twitter client out there, it's very customizable and has a lot of features, i totally recommend it
I can recommend you the app "look of disapproval" where you have this smiley and many many else to use!
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slaughter.look.of.disapproval&hl=de
You must be thinking of something else.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite&hl=en
It wasn't on the Play Store until May 29th, and no, it isn't available for North America.
The custom page in the Look of Disapproval app. Lets you set up whatever custom faces you want for easy copy & paste access when messaging.
Not particularly a fan of the emoji style faces, especially since they can appear differently based on the receiver's device. Text style faces meanwhile tend to always get the meaning across.
If you're on Android there's an app called Look of disapproval that let's you just tap on the face you want and it will copy it to the clipboard.

You can use 3rd party Facebook apps. Try Swipe for Facebook - very data and permissions friendly, and chat works through it too, negates the need for Messenger.
Consider using Friendly for Facebook instead of the official FB app. There's also an iPhone app if you're not on Android.
You could also use Swipe for Facebook, I didn't get any of the battery drain and I could check my messages in the app.
I use tinfoil hat on my phone with trillian as my fb messenger
I use Tinfoil for Facebook. It's just a wrap for the mobile site (with some privacy controls), but I like having it instead of having to fire up Facebook on Chrome.
Have you tried Tinfoil for Facebook? It creates a wrapper for Facebook's mobile site. It also creates a sandbox to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
I've been using Flamingo for a little while. It's pretty good, it has a better layout and doesn't use as much battery power as the default app.
Google remove the "Remind me about new episodes" (or however it was worded) option from the Search card for TV series a while back, I bet this is intentional as they seem to be phasing out the feature.
That said, TVShow Time might fill the gap for you, its what I switched to. Bonus: it also has a Chrome Extension!
Flamingo- It's a Twitter application that runs on Twitter's API. It's Twitter with a bunch of customization options.
anYme- anYme is for anime and you can mark your progress on a certain anime. It uses kissanime (a popular anime site) to stream all episodes for you. Also it has a built in ad-blocker, so no more ads.
anYme- can be found here: /r/anyme
Fildo- You can call it a spotify "copy" if you want, but the difference I that you can download songs from the app. Note: this app uses third party websites, so don't blame them for any fake song names.
Peggo: A simple soundcloud and YouTube downloader. It only downloads YT videos as .mp3 files. It also downloads soundcloud songs as .mp3 files (that sold it for me). It's simple get link then paste.
OgYT: This app is interesting. It can play YouTube in a floating window and it's ad-free, but some people say it's not. You can download videos mp4/mp3. It can get annoying that you have to keep pushing cancel on YouTube update once you open the app. That only occurs ever now and then tho.
Tiny Tunes- Another app to download songs. It runs off of third party websites also, so don't blame it for wrong songs. It has iTunes top songs; which is a good category to look for the "best" songs. All links so far have worked for me.
Terrarium TV: This app has became pretty popular lately. Imo it's not better or worse than Showbox, but it's definetly up there with it. It's interface is really good and it's user friendly. Also gets updated regularly and the links do too. This app has a subreddit also /r/terrariumtv
Adclear: It's a ad blocker. It works just like Adguard but in my opnion it's better. Been using it for months now and it's great.
All links can be found with a simple Google search
Edit: Flamingo is in the Google Play Store
These are my two main projects currently. :)
Right, because having your name and face on there is somehow less identifying than your phone number.
If you're worried about it don't use the mobile app or use Tinfoil.
Flamingo by Sam Ruston. Great app, responsive dev and delightful animations across the board.
Oh, and 10x less jankier than the official Twitter app
download this app, open her instagram account and toggle the universal button. the app will retrieve all the text and symbols from bio https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camel.corp.universalcopy
Let's assume we are not referring to anything mainstream.
TVShow Time is amazing for me, i keep track of all tvshows instead of looking it up or checking the list of tvshows, amazing app!
Pocket is another amazing app, save now read later!
Unfortunately, Facebook is now actively blocking private messaging in the mobile web version. Nowadays to get full functionality you need to either:
I use swipe for facebook which is a wrapper of the browser site. It feels like an official app if you are just into basic facebook stuff.
I've been using Look of Disapproval.
it's not a keyboard, but it allows you to easily copy ascii emoticons.
Glympse - I created a separate thread for this app comparing it to Google Location Sharing and got voted down a lot for apparent "shilling", even though I have nothing to do with this app other than liking it. Anyways, it's really great, tracking is much better than Google Location Sharing, you can show your speed, your routing trail and unlike Google Maps, this is real time.
Aaaaand that's why I don't use the official app. I barely use Facebook but when I do, I use Friendly
And I always use Facebook only on incognito mode. If you are always connected to your Facebook account on the web page, it tracks you even when Facebook web isn't opened, through the like buttons embedded on some pages. They notify Facebook the pages you visit
Universal Copy is an app which let's you copy text based content from basically any screen. It's extremely handy and convenient.
I deleted Facebook from my Android long, long ago, and doubled my battery life. Just the act of removing that one application, an application I almost never used anyway, added 7 new hours of battery life to my device. Why? LBE Security Master showed Facebook requesting and reporting my location every 30s and 60s, 24x7, eating up my battery and data plan.
I also un-flashed SNS from the ROM, since this speaks the Facebook (and other social network) APIs, so other apps can call Facebook, even when it's not installed (again, to send Contacts, send location update data, etc.)
I now use Tinfoil for Facebook exclusively (and locked down, using LBE Security Master v6). You should too.
There is absolutely zero reason to have Facebook installed on your device anymore, nor WhatsApp. The egregious privacy implications should be enough to keep people away from using it.
I saw Friendly get some hype yesterday, have you tried that one?
I had been using Swipe Pro for a long time, and was quite happy with it, but recently it seems to have died.
Google Now on tap.
invoke Now on tap, select "touching finger" icon and copy the text: http://imgur.com/OTGNyiT
or:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camel.corp.universalcopy&hl=en
You can use 3rd party Facebook apps. Try Swipe for Facebook - very data and permissions friendly, and chat works through it too, negates the need for Messenger.
I've been using Friendly for weeks. It's fast - much faster than Swipe was and so far I've been able to do anything I can do on the official Facebook app. Edit: behold a link! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.friendly
You can also use Tinfoil for Facebook or Hermit for Facebook & WhatsApp
Where is that? Oh I couldn't find it because it's incompatible with my Nexus 6...wtf?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite&hl=en
> - Works on all Android phones
LOL
As an alternative, you can use the Friendly for Facebook app. It's 3rd party app which uses the web-interface in the background. It also supports other social media.
Make sure you're checking this listing for Tik Tok: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zhiliaoapp.musically&hl=en_US which is the actual app download and currently at 2.6.
There is this listing that says 4.5 but you can't actually download TikTok from it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.android.ugc.trill&hl=en_US
there's your problem: you're using every trashy app from Facebook that are causing havoc to your phone. uninstall Facebook (completely or disable FB related packages) and Messenger and use these alternatives:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happening.studios.swipeforfacebookfree
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.mlite
I just use Swipe, which is a nice wrapper around the mobile site with better responsiveness, push notification support, etc.
if anybody's on Android and encountering this issue, check out Swipe for Facebook. it's basically a wrapper for the mobile website that makes it a lot easier to navigate and you don't have to deal with Messenger. the dev is a Redditor, as well.
Kann jedem Tinfoil for Facebook (bzw. Tinfoil for Twitter) ans Herz legen.
Or Tinfoil for Facebook, which unfortunately doesn't support notifications. Overall I like Tinfoil though.
I use Tinfoil for Android after somebody mentioned it on reddit a few months back. Basically it's a container for chrome, that loads just facebook's mobile site. So you can stay signed in, but just from within Tinfoil. So no more battery issues, and facebook can't track you, or your browsing habits (cookies) - just be sure to turn of location tracking from within tinfoil.
Password manager: Bitwarden
Browser: Brave (it's chrome with a built in adblocker)
Gifs/short videos: Google Motion Stills
Photo gallery: Google Photos
Reddit app: Relay for Reddit
File explorer: Solid Explorer
If you're into concerts: Songkick
Keyboard: Swiftkey
Audiobooks: Voice Audiobook Player
Youtube: Youtube Vanced
VPN: Private Internet Access (if you download the APK from their website it will have a system wide adblocker installed. Note that VPNs are a paid service)
My personal recommendation: Look of Disapproval (this adds a quick button that brings up loads of text faces that can be copied to clipboard with a press, and you can set custom ones)
I know this is basically tooting my own horn, but check out Swipe for Facebook. It's got Material Design 2, fully customizable themes (literally setting colors to specific elements), Chat Heads, and a fully functional widget - among other things.
Then come visit r/swipeforfacebook.
Yep it's not available anymore because the app ran out of API tokens. If you've previously used it then you can still download the app and use it. Flamingo got updated just a couple days ago https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samruston.twitter
Fenix is my next favorite twitter client. Id use the official client but promoted ads are annoying
<a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samruston.twitter">Flamingo.</a> It's paid but worth it imho. Absolutely beautiful and functional, yet simple.
Bonus: It's by the same developer of Weather Timeline
Look into Flamingo. It's still in Beta, but the Dev is super involved and it replaced Fenix for me as my Twitter client. I enjoy the design of Flamingo over stock Twitter.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samruston.twitter
Are people not able to access Facebook Lite from Playstore? A couple comments that US people can't, but I seem to be able to.
Edit: just kidding, noticed it says below the big Install button that, "this app is incompatible with all of your devices"
Tinfoil for facebook https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Tinfoil for Facebook is for those users that require a Tinfoil Hat when logging in to Facebook. It creates a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
Requires INTERNET permissions. Feel free to check the source code here: https://github.com/velazcod/Tinfoil-Facebook
It also requires the "COARSE_LOCATION" permission. This is not used unless you enable "Allow Check-ins" on the preferences, otherwise Check-ins won't work. This option is disabled by default.
If you have issues, please remember that Tinfoil is just a wrapper for the Facebook mobile site. Some things break on the site and there isn't much we can do to fix some issues. Sometimes forcing the user-agent helps (Preferences -> Mobile/desktop site -> Force mobile). If you find an issue and are completely it's a problem with Tinfoil please open a issue in the Github tracker:
Flamingo for Twitter does that:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samruston.twitter
It uses the marker to remember your last scroll position. But also you can disable auto scroll on timeline update.
unfortunately i can't relate as i don't use the facebook app or an s7, but i recommend swipe for facebook as an alternative
You're making assumptions about me that you don't know. I use Facebook but I only access it from the Tinfoil app. I use FDroid as much as I can and do my online searches through DuckDuckGo. I use Firefox and uBlock to ensure that little to no tracking is done with my web browsing. I use as much FLOSS as I possibly can to be sure I have the freedom to look into what I am using. I use Google's tracking services for their products I use (Google Fit, Gmail, Drive). These products provide me a benefit that comes from their tracking. I don't mind giving up some privacy in exchange for a service that I find valuable.
Microsoft provides me no benefit for allowing them to track me and my usage. I don't mind tracking users and what they do. I do mind tracking that is only meant to benefit the tracker. The disconnect from reality comes into play when users do not want to admit they are not respected by a company they have trust in.
Universal Copy is a better alternative to this in my opinion. Feels more like the Now on Tap implementation which was removed for no well explained reason.
You can always install purchased apps, even if the dev takes it off the store.
Just head here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samruston.twitter
EDIT: Here's proof: https://imgur.com/a/bryVd50
There's an Android app, Look Of Diasapproval which has all kinds of emoticons preloaded, and a tab you can use for custom faces and also just plain pasta.
Which is why I can bust this guy out whenever I need him:
f(ಠ‿↼)z
Here's the link: (∩ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)⊃━☆゚.* https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slaughter.look.of.disapproval
☝(゚ヮ゚☝)
If anyone doesn't have it already, get the Look of Disapproval app. It has tons of quick access text faces and you can save your own. It even has a quick toggle button for the notification tray.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slaughter.look.of.disapproval
I noticed a huge improvement when I switched to Swipe for Facebook. The official Facebook app is a notoriously bad battery draining resource hog. I uninstalled the official app months ago and never looked back.
Give Swipe for Facebook a try. I have a couple or three different workarounds under the "Messaging Client" setting that helps prevent exactly this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happening.studios.swipeforfacebookfree
It's been hyped to hell and back on this sub already, but it doesn't have its own comment here yet so I have to recommend Flamingo for Twitter. I used to use Twidere and wasn't sure anything else would replace it for me. I'd tried pretty much all the Twitter clients I could find that were still being updated (Fenix, Talon, Falcon etc.) and always went back to Twidere. Flamingo finally got me to switch.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
He made this so you can more easily control the permissions. I love it. My whole family uses this instead of the damn stupid app.
Facebook Lite (Official takes a bit less Storage) --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite&hl=en
Or a App called Frost for Facebook if i recall right.

God i am very happy.. i deleted FB from my Phone...
Friendly is my 1st choice. This app made FB so user friendly for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.friendly
Simple for Facebook Pro is my 2nd choice.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.creativetrends.simple.app.pro
I'd go with Friendly.
I've tried Simple for Facebook for a while but I didn't like how it automatically set all my notifications as readed, which Friendly doesn't do.
You may want to delete the official facebook app(s) to save your battery life, try the app Swipe instead.
The official apps eat up a surprising amount of processing power and battery life (90% sure it's spying related) all in the background, you don't even need to open it up.
Don't use the facebook app. Install tinfoil for facebook: it's just a wrapper for their mobile website, which has all the functionality apart from the notifications.
Hello sir. Have you had a chance to listen to the word and gospel of our Lord and savior, Swipe for Facebook?
> It was proven you phone uses 20% more battery just having it installed, facebook recommended using the mobile website instead if you need more juice...
Tinfoil: it's a wrapper for the mobile website.
Edit: link
Swipe for Facebook? Not open source, but it works and looks great. Been using it for a while and haven't had any password reset issues.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happening.studios.swipeforfacebookfree
I use the app "look of disapproval" for all my text face needs. That way I can use them in all apps and not just reddit. Stores custom faces, including multiple line faces, and it has an optional quick settings button so I can access it from my notification shade.
Example of one of my custom ones, with no additional modification needed to make it reddit friendly.

Use Swipe Pro, for Facebook. Check it out. There's also a pro version.
official FB app is fucking terrible - both for storage and battery life.
I use Tinfoil which is basically the mobile site in a wrapper.
Downside (or upside?) is that you don't get notifications or messages.
There's also Metal for Facebook.
For messages I used to use Disa, but it's more of an SMS app that also does FB messages.
What is the reward?
Posting this at 9:08PM Toronto time. January 3, 2016
Do 'most' facebook users really use an app? I'd be interested in some statistics there...
As it is, this is (a part of) why I'd never install facebook's app even if paid to - not to mention the HUGE list of horrendously intrusive permissions it requests (you need fucking camera/SMS/running apps/add and remove device accounts/modify contacts/GPS location/dial phone numbers/reorder apps/battery stats access WHY EXACTLY? Oh, right, you don't need it).
Tinfoil ftw for if you really need mobile facebook access.
I don't mean to toot my own horn because I made this, but Look of Disapproval needed some recoding in the notification, when action buttons are pressed.
Basically what would happen: if you clicked on an action button, a black screen would pop up with an OLD, OUTDATED ANDROID LAYOUT... for a brief moment. This still happens if you "Like" a conversation from Facebook Messenger.
The fix was to use a Broadcast instead of just firing up an activity that did nothing except the action you wanted. Someone inform Facebook of their laziness.
I tried to get a screenshot of it happening but it's rather quick. I'm sure some of you may have noticed this. Facebook Messenger supports the new permissions...but still.
You should try out Facebook Lite. It wasn't released in the US (developing nations only), but it has everything bundled the way FB used to be. Granted it's not flashy like the main app, but it doesn't eat up half your CPU.
At least it's a very obvious case. Most of the time we have to make a blind guess.
If you can't get rid of Facebook, try to re-install the app and if that does not help switch to Facebook Lite https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite
Well, you'll get far fewer than 6 years of OS updates on Android, but you might get more than 6 years of software support. E.g., TikTok, an app that came to the US in 2018, supports in the latest version of the app Android versions as old as 4.1. Android 4.1 came out over 8 years ago. Obviously not all Android devs support such old versions, but it is very common to see apps support very old versions of Android, something far less common on iOS.
Like this:
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
But seriously though, the easiest way is to just copy and paste.
Or the Look Of Disapproval app is great too.
3 dot menu, copy, select and copy. Joey for Reddit does it the same way.
You could use Universal Copy as your assist app and copy text on your screen in any app. That's assuming you don't use Assistant.
Use Swipe for Facebook to access facebook. It's a wrapper for the mobile site and is designed well, handles notifications and doesn't use system resources that much. In the settings for the app you can select your messenger client to be the messenger app. Try it out, it's free for most features. I purchase pro tho cause the dev is awesome and constantly updates with new features!
I found the lite app as far as I can tell it's still an official facebook app, but designed for countries/phones with bad coverage etc. I can't download it from the app store in my country but getting the APK isn't too hard. I haven't encountered any feature that isn't available in the app, messages, group sharing, push notifications, all works. Also haven't noticed any further battery drain etc. of course that's just my personal experience, never actually researched why this is the case.
I have used many custom Roms and kernels in the past, and that definitely helped, but right now I am actually on stock DP5. I do have Snapchat installed, and instead of the official Facebook app I use Swipe for Facebook. Other than that I don't really do anything else to keep it running smooth, I guess I just got lucky.
I only use "Tinfoil for Facebook". Sure, it crashes every time you try to start a chat, but at least it's not the official one.
Swipe for Facebook is absolutely fantastic. Pro version here.
A bit off topic, but have you checked out Tinfoil for Facebook? It's a wrapper around the mobile site with some added functionality and removal of some of the more creepy Facebook background data collection.
TinFoil for Facebook is another good option https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
I have Facebook Messenger installed on my phone too so I don't need to log in to message anybody, and I can just use the chat part of Facebook. I'm leaving myself logged out of Facebook on my phone and computer, other than Messenger, which also helps, because then I have to think if there's an actual reason to go on Facebook, other than wasting time. Then I don't go on Facebook, and go back to wasting time on Reddit.
If you are on android, use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camel.corp.universalcopy
Don't know if it's on iOS
I think it's a new modified version because I copied the real thing from a few weeks ago and put it through LOD's mock text generator. but yeah, it used to mention Android Quindim before Google broke the news about no more sweet treats.
For those looking...the facebook app needs to die in a fire
edot: getting downvoted for this is fucking weird
I've previously used Friendly which has IAP for removing ads, but am currently using Frost (also available on F-Droid) which is ad free without IAP. I prefer Frost as I've found any links I open within the app are also without ads, but with Friendly only my Facebook feed had the ads removed. N.B. both are wrappers for Facebook mobile.
