Okay, I'm going to try to make a quick plug for my own hoppy project :)
It's a free (no catches at all), open source podcast client with material design. I've written it in order to try making the "nice podcast client which is pro user and doesn't collect any data".
There is also a beta version you can try out which is mostly bug fixes: http://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.bottiger.podcast
If you try it out, please let me know what you think. I like positive feedback but love constructive criticism, since it's my main source of data for where I should improve the app and potential bugs.
There is always mine - SoundWaves Podcast.
I know it's not at the top of the play store, but I like it a lot (obviously). It has a nice design, completely free, open source and comes with all the advanced features you normally have to pay for.
If you run into any problems, just contact me and I'll get it fixed at once :) This also counts if you have any issues doing things, or problems with the UI. My main problem is the lack of feedback, but the users I do have seems to like it a lot.
There is my app, SoundWaves podcast player. It's completely free, no as, no premium features and open source, nice design and if you have any problems you send me a PM
I, personally, is very happy every time someone gives it a spin. And the users I have seems to like it a lot. Then again, the users who doesn't like it obviously moves on :)
Full disclosure: I'm the developer of SoundWaves Podcast player. An open source podcats app for android
A long outstanding - and fun! - project I have is to rewrite the audio engine. Or rather, make an engine. At the moment it's just code scattered around. This includes variable playback speed, volume normalization, remove silence from audio etc.
I think this would be a nice bachelor thesis since it includes Android development (obviously), but can also be written as fast and performant low level NDK library if that's your thing (speed is always fun). And most important: There are a lot of academic angles to this project, DSP is not simple, and a lot of theory and prior research. Something which I otherwise would imagine could be hard to incorporate in a bachelor thesis about "plain" android development. It's also a very nice isolated project which doesn't depend on my code at all, but can be integrated into it if you want.
I can also help out since it's my project. You should obviously have your own supervisor who has the full responsibility for you, but I have supervised several master student in the past, hold a Ph.D in the field of computer vision and work in the field as my day job.
For people with Android phones I'm going to make a plug for my own app - SoundWaves Podcast.
I'm not going to claim it's the best, but I think it's pretty good. In addition to that it supports all the features you expect, is completely free, open source, pro-user and is developed by me - a long time podcast fanatic and producer :)
It's nice that you want to make your own. I also started making my own podcast app a few years ago but it took waaay more time than I expected.
So, if you do not want to start from scratch feel free to fork my app - it's on github.. But even better, you could just help me out making it even better if you like :)
In any case, good luck!
I develop a FOSS podcast client for Android called Soundwaves.
It's also available on F-droid
There is also my app, Soundwaves podcast. It's free, add-free open source, has all the features you expect and a nice material interface.
In addition you can always write to me personally for request and I'll find a solution ASAP, and you support a fellow redditor ☺️
I like gPodder. It's a free service which let you sync your devices to it. This includes subscriptions and state of individual episodes. Serveral clients support it, both on iOs, Android and PC. I'm going to recommend mine - SoundWaves Podcasts.
Just add your gPodder account, sync, and resync.
Eller du kan prøve dig på med min podcats app :)
Så bliver jeg rigtig glad. Men det er klart, hvis programmet ikke har et RSS-feed er du lidt på den. Jeg hører dog P6 Beat elsker hver uge via deres podcast.
To be honest, I don't know the spec, I have just observed that everyone uses low quality images embedded images.
In my app I really wanted to show the "episode image" in the player. However, I had to revert to showing the feed image due to quality issues.
Due to the kind reasons I got last time I'll give myself a plug again.
Soundwaves podcast is a completely free and open source podcast client in a modern and material ui and with all the basic features you expect.
I've been working on it for ages, and it still have some bugs but if you are into podcasts give it a try :)
And if you have any feedback at all, please let me know
Hi there. I'm working on my own little project. A free, libre and open source podcast client.
I have no graphical skills at all, so I would love to get any type of help :) At the moment I really need some artwork for the play store and general branding.
Jeg bruger min egen :) - SoundWaves Podcast
Bugs? Ja, selvfølgelig, men vi er en lille meget dedikeret brugerskare.
If you like FOSS podcast app there is also SoundWaves: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.bottiger.podcast
Or my app - SoundWaves podcast :)
It's both on Google Play and F-droid
Of course. but please be nice and treat it as the beta software it is :)
You could try Soundwaves it's also FOSS
It's called SoundWaves (podcast player) and it's available for Android only. But it's free and open source
SoundWaves Podcast is another very nice material podcasting app.
Hey there bilingual
Thank you very much for the initiative. I'm currently putting a lot of work into my free and open source Podcast player, SoundWaves.
It's on github and all translations are handled on Transifix
I have a big release coming up in a few days and I would be very thankful if you could pitch in with a Russian translation.
