tl;dr:
Motorola partnered with a "renowned expert in Mind-Brain Behavior and the Science of Happiness at Harvard University and Psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry" to conduct a month-long survey on people's smartphone habits.
Lo and behold, (a lot of) people are addicted to their smartphones. The company then goes on to promote Moto Display and Mods, and the app SPACE, which they've apparently partnered with.
Hey man, funny thing I've already been using an app called Space and I absolutely agree with what you said.I started using it in April and was shocked to see the number of times I unlock my phone and the hours I wasted without even being aware of it.I set it to 90 mins for the first day and crossed it by the early hours of evening itself.I've been trying to keep track and have improved a bit since haha.
Also check out SPACE app which lets you decide ideal phone usage time for entire day and number of times you're allowed to unlock your phone. It has a simple easy to use interface which lets you track how much time you spend on your phone. Link for the same https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mrigapps.andriod.breakfree.deux

Edit: added another app
Hey there! I actually had to deal with this last time I was in the hospital (mental institute). They were talking about how this was a growing problem. It's not just you; it's a HUGE issue right now overall.
I wanted to comment to let you know there are apps and things that are designed to help cut down on consumption. You can set yourself limits that will automatically lock you out, and monitors that help you be more aware of what you're doing.
When I was first trying to kick being on my phone too much, I used this app called SPACE. There were quite a few, but I think this one was the most helpful for me. It showed me how often I unlocked my phone, what apps I was using most, offered different paths based on the way I used my phone most. I don't know if it would work for everyone, but I found it useful.
You can Google some good resources of other options if that one doesn't work for you!

I've never actually tried this app, but I see in one of the screenshots that there's a 'session interrupt' feature that I guess alerts you if you've been browsing too long.
App that I see on the play store that can track app usage.
