If you're an Android user, check out the TomTom Sports app before you purchase this watch. I've got an "officially tested" phone (Nexus 6) but there's a bug that won't let the watch pair to the phone. TomTom has been working on a fix for months... So I've been syncing it to my computer manually.
Also the heart rate monitor really doesn't like my wrist hair. It results in crazy heart rate fluctuations that aren't echoed by my Scosche Rhythm+ (another optical HRM) situated on my hair-free forearm.
The reviews on the app store for their old app are mostly negative. It's like the lowest rated fitness app. Pretty sure that's part of the reason why they switched to the newer "Sports" app. Most of the reviews were 1-2 stars and talking about the sync issues.
Edit: Look at the average rating and reviews for the old app. They're awful. If it's defective then there's a ton of defective units out there.
> What I will often do though is go into that menu on the watch. Phone > Sync > ON and then wait till the bluetooth icon appears on my phone. Then I'll swipe down to refresh on the TomTom app and it will start to work. It's my workaround and it may not actually do anythin
Well I do that and most of the times I cannot sync anyways... It goes to 6% and then back to 0% so many times before the sync actually succeeds.. I don't think this should be a reason to make you not buy the watch because it is still a great watch for the price (comparing to his market alternatives)
Btw my phone is a Moto G, you can take a look at the ratings and comments on Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.mysports
