I wanted to make an android app while traveling and none of the currency apps I found were focused on travelers.
- offline currency rates
- compare rates (I can't even do arithmetic after a red-eye)
- compare trades (common at land border crossings)
To keep the interface clean, I intentionally leave out features like rate charts and descriptive, but not actionable info that are common in other apps. As a personal pet peeve, there's no hold-to-drag. It uses a drag handle instead.
I have a card from ETrade that has no foreign transaction fees. My buddy has one from Charles Schwab that even refunds the ATM fees while abroad. You have enough time to open another account.
Do you have travel insurance? Check the policy to see how much theft coverage you have and take as much cash as you can that's insured. Keep an eye on the exchange rates, though.
