Ich bin dir weit voraus! Ggf. poste ich auch noch ein paar App-Empfehlungen in r/spabiergang, aber hier erst mal eine.
Mit Wanderlust werden nicht nur die Routen aufgezeichnet, sondern es wird auch mit so einem Fog-of-War-Effekt (wie man es von Strategiespielen kennt) die Karte nach und nach aufgedeckt. So kannst du auf einen Blick sehen wo du schon warst, was ungemein bei der Auswahl einer neuen noch nicht erforschten Gegend hilft. Man kann da auch den KML-Export vom Google-Tracking importieren, aber ein befreundeter Spabiergänger hat das mal versucht und anscheinend ist die App bei sehr großen Dateien bzw. vielen Punkten überfordert.
Die verlinkte Version oben ist übrigens die kostenlose Variante und auf 5km² aufgedeckte Karte limitiert. Die Vollversion kostet 3.50.
Wanderlust does this. It unfogs the map as you wander around. I used it over a year ago not sure if it's still going.

Probably you are thinking of the paid version of Wanderlust, which is no longer available. Since the free version has a limit on how much can be revealed before it prompts you to upgrade to the paid version, which is no longer possible, it's now pretty useless.
I don't know why the paid version was taken down, or Umbra. However I can only assume it's because they were not compatible with new versions of the Android OS and the developers are no longer willing to work on changes to it.
Due to this, I've switched to using an app called OysterX which is also free, and does pretty much the same thing. Having said that, it hasn't been updated recently, the official website seems dead, and some users reported having lost their data in reviews. It's worked so far for me though.
