I just checked out what the game is and whoa. Dude. Seriously. Try to market it in the boardgames subreddit. That's a freaking old historical chess game I bet the people there would even love to try their hands on.

The first one I made was a game for my Dad. He found an old chess-like board in his attic and had no clue what the game was. After some research I found the game (Wehrschach) which was from 1938. Even managed to get the rules of the game (there was no online source) as I found a video of the son of a GI who filmed the manual in a YouTube video without a clue what he was holding.
Was I proud? A bit. But just because I made it possible for my dad to play the game (he really liked it) and because I helped to preserve a piece of gaming history (even if it is from a dark time).
Was it bugging? Not really, just plain ugly. Store link
My first project was a recreation of a lost boardgame Wehrschach where I tried to create the assets with Blender but failed so I stuck with badly made Inkscape pieces.
The next boardgame adaption, Hnefatafl, used rendered pieces and boards as well as self-recorded sounds. No music though.
The next project, Fidchell, used a similar approach as the game was also quite similar.
Then I created small puzzle games like Metris which uses rendered sprites and OneWay where I went back to simpler single color "Material" pieces. I did the same with Pattern (another puzzle game) but that game was made within two days as a small challenge.
My current project, Troll Patrol, uses self-made SVG sprites, purchased sounds and music. I tried to create the sound effects myself but I am quite useless in that regard...
So far I have to say that using rendered sprites is quite easy as you don't have to worry about creating "good" models. No one cares if your model has a million polygons if it is pre-rendered into a 2D sprite anyway.
For my last project I used a cheap Wacom tablet and while commuting a simple sketch app on my phone to create concept art which I then traced in Inkscape to create better concept art and later the real game art. But I use a simple comic style that is not too challenging.
