https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.wifiKeyRecovery&hl=it
I use WiFI Key Recovery from the play store. It also needs root but no ads.
I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do but on my Galaxy S5 LineageOS 16.0 rooted > Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Saved network & their passwords are in /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml.
So if rooted copy that file & open w/ a text editor. I copied to computer & opened with WordPad. Search for PreSharedKey.

If you are talking about WiFi Key Recovery (needs root) this app as well as Wifi Password(ROOT) and WiFi Password Recovery (root) from the Play Store don't work in LineageOS 16.0.
Edit: This one works Wi-Fi password manager to see my saved networks & passwords as well as this one but with less features: Wifi Password Show.
If you want to change the password for a network go to Saved network, long press the network & Forget. Reconnect to it & enter the new password.
The file is located /data/misc/wifi/wpa_suppliciant.conf
If you want an application use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.wifiKeyRecovery
You need root for any option.
I found a tool I used long time ago... It is not working for me right now, for anyone else? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.wifiKeyRecovery
> WiFi key recovery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.wifiKeyRecovery&hl=en
