I really enjoy mine as well. It has had some growing pains since launch, (Bugs, but they happen) but I love nothing more than cooking dinner and throwing YouTube videos up on the big screen.
If there's one thing that I really wish existed, it's Chromecast to Chrome. Where you can use the Chromecast API to cast your phone/tablet's screen/video/whatever from your device to Chrome on your desktop/laptop. - The reason I'd like this is my PC is my entertainment center in my bedroom and I really wish that I could cast videos and control my desktop via the Chromecast option.
The next best thing has been Unified Remote, but a cast option would be much easier for YouTube and some other apps. The next closest thing is YouTube Leanback, which hasn't aged too well.
Try to side load the YouTube App for Android TV?
I'm not at home but will try when I get home.
Sideload the YouTube for GoogleTV version. You don't have to uninstall the fire TV version. You can't log in but you can pair your phone. Once my phone is paired I was able to stream to the TV from my iPhone. I could do it with the Google TV version but I could not do it with the fire TV version.

You may need market helper from XDA to make the play store think you are a google TV or use Apk downloader
Well, we'll see. Everyone was 'on board' with GoogleTV (LG, Vizio, Asus, Netgear, Sony, Logitech, others?) too. In fact all of the original packaging had the Amazon logo, it's just that Amazon decided to cancel 'support' for the Google devices later, after I already paid $400 for it. You know that GoogleTV was Android Honeycomb, don't you?
And the YouTube experience on the GoogleTV today speaks for itself. The app wasn't always this terrible it was only after they decided to kill the product that they made it suck.
> It's funny you said that Logitech would never want to work with Google again, because they just released a Harmony app for Android TV yesterday.
Making an app for the Android platform isn't working with Google, that's just making an app. If they start making AndroidTV boxes, that would truly surprise me, as they got totally shafted on the GoogleTV disaster.
Remember this ad for a Logitech GTV device featuring Kevin Bacon or this one for the Sony device?
> Android TV actually runs surprisingly well.
I think this illustrates everything that is wrong with Android right now. Why is it surprising that it runs well?
I'll just say as a GTV early adopter that I totally feel burned, but this seems pretty typical of silicon valley these days: Release something that isn't ready, and then 'fix it later' with software updates. This isn't how I want my car, my TV, my fridge, or my phone to work. I want stuff that works.
Having acquired a TV that i use daily as a monitor I can share some of my experiences with the Philips 4k Android TV I purchased.
Home 3D is pretty much unusable
Being new to home 3D I had no idea about the persistent crosstalk issue, in short you can have 3D effect but half the scenes will have a distracting ghosting. So used it once to try it out and will never touch it again.
Smart features are really useless
My TV came with android so I figured I could potentially use it on it's own to for youtube or some other android apps. The reality though was that it was that it was riddled with issues, including but not limited:
Really don't expect anything to work
What can I say, It's common for the TV to reset it's settings, meaning I have to go trough and disable all the image enhancements it has on by default, and features like using it as a "wireless display" will just get you a corrupted image. Other users on Philips TV forums complain about updates breaking functionality and other software related problems.
Go as big as you can
PC games are designed with close proximity to a monitor, so if you want to be able to read anything at 1080p resolutions I recommend going as big as you can. Personally I could only fit a 49" so that's what I had to go with, it's usable at 2.2m but I'd still prefer something bigger.
the 4k question
Even though it's a 4k TV I have yet to use it in 4k, like i said the built in software only works in 1080p, I recently updated my gpu to a 4k capable one but trying anything above 1080p just gives me a corrupted image, so I guess i'd need a new hdmi 2.0 cable before being able to actually see anything in 4k. Additionally it seems 4k displays have usually 30ms+ response time (mine is in the uper 70ms+ range). For the games I play it hasn't been a noticeable issue but ofc, your milage may vary.
In conclusion
If i didn't get it on sale I would have likely returned this TV, my advice to you is to completely disregard 3D and smart features as extra value but instead negative selling points as they'll end up being useless or the cause of problems.
Ideally you should get a "dumb" TV and maybe try to find one that acts like a monitor, meaning it turns on and off with your computers, mine doesn't so I'm forced to keep the remote just to turn it on and off which is a bit annoying.
Hope this helps.
