Yes, practice. It's trainable but also needs to be maintained if you don't have the ability to spin naturally. My motion sickness used to be really bad, but my coach told me I was unworkable if I couldn't spin so I actively work on it. I would practice spinning for maybe only two minutes every day and literally go vomit in the bathroom every time.
I ate these before I practiced spinning every session which eased the nausea slightly.
Even now I'm not great at fast spinning and I get nauseous if I don't focus on a single point (usually I look at my hand), but I can get through spinning sequences without throwing up and can spend a full hour working on just my spinning.
If you're nauseous after stepping off the apparatus it also was helpful for me to jump a couple times, turn the opposite direction of the spin, and stare directly at my hand in front of my face for a bit.
I highly recommend purchasing some emesis bags. They saved my life during pregnancy. I kept them in my purse, the car, and every single room in the house (plus one in the shower stall). Perfect for when you're exploding out both ends.
These were really sturdy: Medline Emesis Bags, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00839SNUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Gdp0BbXZAP47V
The plastic O-ring can be ripped off when you're done heaving so that you can tie off the bag. Good luck, mama!
My kids love my Tesla.
My daughters both get motion sick though. We're thinking of getting motion sickness bags for when we travel though. They're just not used to to the motion.
My youngest got into the X for a ride the other day and was like "How did they make it bigger on the inside?", lol.
Emesis bags! I have them stashed everywhere since my first pregnancy when "morning" sickness would hit me at the most inopportune times 🙂
Constant eating is the only thing that’s worked for me so far, but I’m already overweight and really don’t need the weight gain so I’m desperately trying to find a new solution. My friend recommended these acupressure bracelets so fingers crossed they work for me as well as they did for her. I get them tomorrow.
I am so so sorry you had to put your dog down. I feel like let’s take on a hike knew special meaning when you are chronically ill.
Also, I would look up “emesis bag” on Amazon. They are disposable bags for throwing up. This is going to sound so weird, but picture a large condom. The open end is a hard ring. The rest is a touch plastic. Several ERs in my area use them. You hold the ring to your mouth and throw up into the bag. Then you throw it away. These have been a life changer for me. They come without being stretched out first (similar to a condom) so they can be stowed in the car, purse, wherever. And unlike solid pans/trash cans/etc., it’s easy to keep one in bed with you if you wake up ready to vomit. Here’s an example. I don’t know if this is the cheapest or anything. And they also come in packs less than 50. This isn’t a referral link or anything.
Most airsickness pharmacy medications cause drowsiness and aren't recommended for flying. Ginger can help as can wrist bands that press on a point on your wrists.
The best way is to desensitize by regular exposure. Having someone spin you slowly on an office chair with your eyes closed while you nod your head front and back and tilt side to side is a good way to do this. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A1r%C3%A1ny_chair
As far as the wrist bands you can get ones that deliver a small electric pulse to stimulate the nerve point. https://www.amazon.com/Reliefband-1-5-Motion-Morning-Sickness/dp/B00PG4NUOS
Go with the wrist band. It's less effective than medication, but it can help a lot.
I’m so sorry! I had awful nausea my whole first trimester, it got better around 16 weeks and now st 24 weeks it’s uncommon. I hope you feel better soon!
FWIW this ReliefBand really helped me. I used to get terrible motion sickness on VR rides and this really stopped it. It may not work for everyone, but judging from the reviews it works for most. Incidentally, if you get one I wouldn't spend the money for the 'digital' one. The 'classic' works fine.
Zofran (prescription needed). Peppermint tea and candied ginger. And sea-bands. link. A friend who sails recommended these and they do help (but not eliminate) nausea for me.
I hope one of these works for you!
I highly recommend getting actual barf bags. I like these ones from Amazon. I keep one in my purse, one tucked in the side of my seat in the car, and the rest by my bed. They're so much more pleasant to barf in.
I feel your pain. My extreme nausea started at 7 weeks and lasted until week 14. It’s so debilitating and miserable. A few things that helped me - Zofran and Bonjesta. Your OB should be able to prescribe both. The Zofran helps for immediate nausea and Bonjesta builds up to last long term. If you take Zofran, be sure to also take Metamucil. Trust me on this. Eat bland foods - I loved Eggo waffles and lived off them and Life cereal primarily. Carbs are easier on your stomach. Make sure you are eating constantly. Avoid Gatorade and the like - it has Citric acid in it and will exacerbate things. Sea bands will also help. Look for Preggie Pops and Upspring Stomach Settle drops on Amazon and order two of each. These were lifesavers for me. Also, saltines. So many saltines. And ice water really helps. It’s easier to drink really cold things.
You will get through it and feel like a normal person again. I’m 16 weeks and feeling great. Here’s a list for easier reference:
Eggos Bonjesta Zofran (btw - you’ll only need this until the Bonjesta begins working) Preggie pops Upspring Stomach settle drops Saltines Ice water
One more thing - I’m considering ordering this band for my next pregnancy. I can’t say from personal experience if it works, but it looked promising:
Reliefband 1.5 for Motion &... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PG4NUOS?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Yes you can take it as needed. I have an ongoing prescription but I usually only end up needing to take it once or twice a week. There are ginger flavored drops that help a lot.
You can see if she’s interested in Preggie Pop Drops. They’re available on Amazon and I know Walmart has them. Also ginger - but not in high doses. I hope she gets better during her second trimester! Congratulations! Amazon Pop Drop
Sorry for not using TW in this posting everyone. It was meant to be raw and show the reality of what some of us go through. I linked the band that I use below!
Reliefband Classic Anti-Nausea Wristband | FDA Cleared Nausea & Vomiting Relief for Anxiety, Migraine, Motion Sickness (Car, Air, Train, Sea) Hangover & Morning Sickness | Drug Free (Teal) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PG4NUOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-pEIFbFJBRHPG
They're the Walgreens knock-offs of Sea-Bands, and they supposedly use accupressure. I don't know how much scientific evidence there is behind them, TBH, but I am often nauseous and get especially carsick and IME they help a lot. I also always carry mints and Dramamine for the same reason, but I like having something I can't run out of.
Seabands are helpful for nausea, or were for me at least. They are just wristbands with nodules that hit the pressure points in your wrists. Could just be psychosomatic but, hey.
Straight ginger does have a bite to it but you could always go with a ginger tea, gum, or ginger ale maybe? I think peppermint is supposed to be effective for nausea, too.
Your post caught my eye as I was recently diagnosed with Barrett’s as well, also after being told I had a hiatal hernia 3 years ago (cue x files theme).
For the weight loss, have you tried protein drinks? Vanilla Ensures don’t bother me too much and the protein enhanced ones have a decent bit of protein in them (I want to say 26 or so grams?). That should be helpful, especially if you can down two or so a day.
Get barf bags from Amazon, saved me from 2 pukers last week. Also I leave the radio off unless they want it on so I can listen to them breathing and other sounds if they start having a hard time it's barf bag time.

Mine is unpredictable, but so far a constant stream of water and saltines, punctuated by smoothies, pineapple, quinoa and kale have helped. preggie pops are a LIFESAVER (despite the awful name), if it gets worse i have an order of seabands on deck.
I can only answer the second question, but sea bands and peppermint are life-savers.

/u/OldGrumpy I can totally resonate with you! My wife complained a lot about regenerative braking especially in curvy roads and hair-pin bends. Every trip we did in the Bay area, she HAS TO puke her guts out!

These bands GREATLY helped her. I personally (or rather she) vouches for it. No more throwing up and no more nausea! Give it a shot.
Expensive sour candies. The sour does a good job of taking nausea off my brain! They also have essential oils but IMO those are probably... placebo. I would just grab a few bags of sour hard candy but its suprisingly hard to find at the stores near me.

In addition to the patches, these nausea candies helped me a lot with the nausea:

No one has mentioned something called Sea Bands You can get them on Amazon. They are little sweat bands that have a plastic domes on them. You wear them on your wrists. The white domes press into the skin some and hit a pressure point that reduces motion sickness pretty well.
I hadn’t played for a few months and played RE7 the other day for about an hour and forgot to put them on. I felt awful of course. Today I wore them and played Farpoint for an hour and a half and felt just fine.
Here's the Relief Band at Amazon, you may be able to find them elsewhere like Bay used. Reliefband 1.5 for Motion & Morning Sickness - Fast, Drug-Free Relief from Nausea, Retching, Vomiting https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PG4NUOS/
This might help, but only before she starts throwing up.
I have these stomach settling candies for nausea. They have ginger, lemon, spearmint, and vitamin B6 in them. They help me more than my prescription anti-nausea meds do.
these are the ones I get.
These Preggo Drops have been a life savor for me. I also got the sour ones which include extra B12. I cannot stand ginger so I ordered the 4 pack of them cause I eat them daily!
You are missing emesis bags (aka vomit bags aka barf bags).

I also highly recommend a flash light with a strobe function and a strong magnet. It's highly useful for:
Something like these:

Diet/caffeine free ginger ale has been helping me. And these aren’t bad- Preggie Pop Drops for Morning... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XIQ2OC0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. I mainly just lay a lot in misery (which is not helpful, but know you’re not alone!)
