I give you Invasion, a little-known British thriller that relies on the bizarre premise that Turkey would be absorbed by ISIS, that it would nevertheless still be able to join the EU, and that ISIS would be able to raise twenty-two armoured divisions to invade Europe with nobody noticing. They somehow manage to get as far as the UK:

While this was released in 2013, it appears to be a re-write of an older novel published in 2006 and setting its action in 2019 (which obviously did not age poorly at all), with the framing device of Britain being under a caliphate:
Published a decade ago. The author has an extensive IT background. The basic premise was plausible then, imagine how much further we’ve advanced since. Kill Decision https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0073XV2W2/
Shibumi: A Novel by Trevanian
"A classic spy novel from the bestselling author, Trevanian, about a westerner raised in Japan who becomes one of the world's most accomplished assassins."
"Nicholai Hel is the world’s most wanted man. Born in Shanghai during the chaos of World War I, he is the son of an aristocratic Russian mother and a mysterious German father and is the protégé of a Japanese Go master. Hel survived the destruction of Hiroshima to emerge as the world’s most artful lover and its most accomplished—and well-paid—assassin. Hel is a genius, a mystic, and a master of language and culture, and his secret is his determination to attain a rare kind of personal excellence, a state of effortless perfection known only as shibumi."
"Now living in an isolated mountain fortress with his exquisite mistress, Hel is unwillingly drawn back into the life he’d tried to leave behind when a beautiful young stranger arrives at his door, seeking help and refuge. It soon becomes clear that Hel is being tracked by his most sinister enemy—a supermonolith of international espionage known only as the Mother Company. The battle lines are drawn: ruthless power and corruption on one side, and on the other . . . shibumi."
Did he read the Wayward Pines trilogy by Blake Crouch? That was a lot of fun. Also, right around the time I read it, I also discovered the Travis Chase series by Patrick Lee:

I really enjoyed that one too.
I will be the 3rd response to suggest Patrick Lee's Travis Chase Series. It came to mind often while playing Control. It's not my typical fare (a little too... action-y?), but the series easily held my attention.
Read this free novel for some ideas:
This book postulates ISIS agents have thoroughly penetrated Europe and invasion of London is about to begin.
These books look cool! Thanks for sharing.
>I actually read about this some time back in two GREAT and well-researched novels called Power of the Dog and The Cartel.
>Actually I learned more about the drug war in those 2 novels than I've learned anywhere else.
If anyone wants another free book that also seems to be hilariously mistranslated but sadly isn't, my detective novel Quinn Checks In is usually kicking around the top of the free mysteries chart.
Beat the Reaper, by Josh Bazell. Former mob hitman goes into the witness protection program and becomes a doctor. The book made the New York Times's list of 100 notable books for 2009. (If you enjoy it, the 2nd book in the series is called "Wild Thing.")
Though the first book, Beat the Reaper is breathtakingly funny.
I'm currently reading The Power if the Dog by Don Winslow. It's a fantastic crime/thriller about the start of the War on Drugs. The sequel just got released and looked interesting enough that I had to buy the first book before I read it.
Much of Trevanian's novel Shibumi is set in the Basque country of Spain. One of my favorite spy thrillers.
The great thing about Trevanian is you never know exactly if he's putting you on.
