We have these. A combo seat belt cutter and window punch. My husband keeps his on his key ring. Mine is attached with a little zip tie to the rear view mirror. I’d just have to yank on it and the safety cover on the seat belt cutter comes right off. Chances are high I’ll never need it, but it makes me feel more secure.
This is what I purchased through Amazon. I like it because it can hang on my car keys, and all I need to do to deploy it is give it a solid yank. The “safety” is reasonably strong, so I’ve never had it come loose in my pocket.
They should have put their deer whistle on the front
Car windows absolutely do not need a gun fired at them.
My police officer dad gave me something like this when I started driving. https://www.amazon.com/Lifehammer-Brand-Safety-Hammer-Netherlands/dp/B000BN3A4Y
Ended up leaving it in the car when I sold it though!
If you get into an accident serious enough to jam your seatbelt, you likely would have been ejected from the car and killed without the seatbelt. If it's such a concern, you can spend $10 on a ResQMe which is designed to cut your seatbelt and break auto glass, allowing you to escape from a wrecked car. It's designed to go on your key ring, but it also comes with zip ties so you can zip tie is somewhere convenient in your car.
So scary. Doors won't open under water pressure. Side windows are tempered glass and are near unbreakable. The car seems built to drown you. It's a wonder they've not enforced a lever in the car to snap the windows in such an event given this kills people every year.
For anyone that's worried about this (thankfully unlikely) tragedy happening to someone they love, you can buy one of these on amazon for a tenner:
Here's a video demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxhTs8DWe84
Most people don't carry one of the simplest tools: a window-breaker/seatbelt cutter. Often you see knives that can second as seatbelt-cutters too, but they take a lot of time to use when it comes to just seatbelts.
So along with a knife (which I think is common), I also always have this on my keychain. I can't tell you how easy it is for the seatbelt cutter to cut the seatbelt, either. No pocket knife blade can cut a seatbelt like a seatbelt cutter can. It doesn't even take a second; it's as smooth as butter if you do it in the right angle. With a knife blade, you have to essentially wear and tear the seatbelt down. It takes too long.
It becomes extremely useful. People also tend to think that window hammers on the bottom of knives or flashlights work just as well. This is incorrect.
They sell little hammers with a small point for this purpose, I keep one in the console. It can cut the seatbelt too.

I keep a tool with me in the car that has a seatbelt cutter and the other side will break glass if needed. I bought them at Costco quite a long time ago but it's very similar to this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IDUW5C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YsEtDbT7DNHAW
Too time consuming. With a knife it's literally in and out.
If you wanted to be a dick order that thing off Amazon that costs like 4 bucks that pops car windows. You just press it against the window, click it, and it shatters the entire glass. Also comes with a seatbelt cutter!

Just FYI, when your Google redirect link resolves, it has an Amazon affiliate code in it.
For everyone's benefit, the product is "resqme 04.100.09 The Original Keychain Car Escape Tool Safety Yellow Seatbelt Cutter and Window Glass Breaker" and the non-affiliate Amazon link is https://www.amazon.com/01-100-09-Original-Emergency-Keychain-Seatbelt/dp/B01G6C18EC/
My fiance has some weird phobias and paranoias, one of which is being trapped in a vehicle. She got me one of these, just in case. I keep it in my glove box.
I did some research (got stoned and watched youtube) and settled on this. In those videos those hammers did not work.

I've also seen these clipped to a cops utility belt.
I used to work as an EMT, and I've seen a few occasions where belts needed to be cut and windows broken. One guy I treated put his car into a deep narrow ditch and the water killed the electric windows. He punched a side window out with his fist, which I didn't think was even possible. Tough dude.
Anyway, for that problem, you want one of these:
They work great, and you can zip-tie the holder to your parking break handle. It'll still be there after you roll upside down, and you'll still be able to find it.
As for SD, that's complicated. Ask over on /r/martialarts.
As for EDC, we, as a community, regard it as an act of faith that every properly-appointed person ought to have a suitable knife along with them, lest they be stymied by the first bit of stout cord they encounter. There's a million great choices, get whatever you like.
Meh. The actual resqme is made in America, and only costs $4 more on Amazon.
If this thing is potentially going to be used to save my life, I'd like it to be the real product and not some cheap Chinesium knockoff.
You won't be able to break the window - underwater they become almost impossible to break unless you have a window shatter tool with a sharp edge. You can buy them and keep them in the car - since you have thought this out so much go do it! They often are comboed with a seat belt cutter thats safe so it doesn't cut YOU and sometimes a LED flashlight and other small features - really cool handy tool you will probably NEVER NEED.
But if you do need it you will be god damn praising god it's there.
I've had the same thoughts and 'fantasies' about how I would get out of a car underwater....I bought one its in my glove compartment and no regrets. I would link it but it was years ago in a random auto parts store for like $30
edit: I don't know if this means it's a cheap piece of trash (probably - mine was like 20 or 30 when I got it) but here is one on Amazon for less than $7 lol. I am not advocating for this particular model just to show you what I'm talking about and give an example they are inexpensive.

Not him, but I bought one of those survival knives on Walmart lol, it has a regular folding knife with a serrated part, an emergency window braker, a fire starter, a seatbelt cutter and a flashlight.
You can also find specific 2 in 1 tools for breaking qindows and cutting seatbelts like this one
Be careful with that. Scumbags actively look for bags and packages left out in cars. Doesn’t take much to pop that window & snatch your bag. Then you have nothing when you need it.
Many European cars have the air intake higher up, like in the front grill. Many American car manufactures put it down near the tire well.
If I had to guess this is in the grill, water probably went in still, but not enough to get past the air filter which probably just soaked up the splashes that made it through.
The additional concern is the exhaust getting flooded. The catch is actually to keep the engine RPMs high enough to keep exhaust pressure high and not allow water in.
With all that said, this is stupid. Most car insurance companies in the US can actually exclude coverage for this if you clearly could tell it was flooded and drove in. In addition there is the sad reality of how many people have actually passed away from this. Lastly and this part is important many modern cars have a little red light for the door lock and the lock, along with windows are electric.
If you lose power to the car and the door is locked (many autolock when you go into drive) and the windows are up, there is a chance you won't be able to escape without a window shattering tool like this one https://www.amazon.com/04-100-09-Original-Keychain-Seatbelt-Breaker/dp/B01G6C18AG
Acheté ça il y a des années maintenant, jamais eu de vrai utilisation pour une situation comme celle ci, mais déjà "tester" sur une vitre, très efficace !

Fortunately I am foresighted and have prepared myself with a car rescue hammer such as this one, which reportedly resembles a tool used by firefighters:
So I simply undo my seatbelt, shatter the glass in the windshield, and crawl out.
Its sad to say, but I probably need to invest in these for my Tesla: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JCMTW2/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_glt_fabc_ME8Y3KN8TCYR16T48JFQ
2 per car, one for the rear occupants and one for the front occupants. Owning a model 3, can anyone tell me off the top of their head how to manually release the rear doors? I know how to do the front doors... I did see something under the storage mats in the rear door cards... but have no idea how to operate it (Let alone be able to figure it out in an actual emergency).
I was gifted this style of auto safety/rescue tool several Xmas's ago. I've never used it but still consider it one of the most useful gifts I've even gotten. It dangles off of my turn signal arm so if something does happen and I end up rolling or upside down it will still be within reach.

In some smaller cars you might not be able to take your headrest off depending on your seating position (my headrest hits the roof unless you lean the seat back). Especially if you have power seats and lose power.
Window breakers are cheap and definitely worth having if you drive around a bunch of open ditches/rivers/lakes.
I ordered these off Amazon. Best $15 I ever spent. Seat belt cutter and passenger side window breaker.

Car seat belts get locked in an accident. If youre submerged in water etc you need to cut the seat belt. Keep a seat belt cutter & glass breaker in your car, such as this one; https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Emergency-Cutter-Window-Accessories/dp/B073JCMTW2
I live in an area surrounded by water so I'm always on a bridge. I keep one of these in my car:
Seatbelt Cutter Window Breaker Emergency Escape Tool
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002AMAXNA/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_eXyEvbZXBZHYJ
It would have saved him. :(
plenty of youtube vids on it pretty nifty device.
They have whistles you can buy to put on your car to help prevent this:

I saw a deer get hit by the car in front of me around 91st and Garnett a few years ago. It was a juvenile and the poor thing's foot popped off and flew about a 100 feet. Pretty sick. I also hit a baby mountain lion one time in Oregon. Felt horrible.
The Surge is a great general purpose multitool. I keep one in the trunk of my car, along with a Leatherman Bit Kit.
I would recommend that you also keep a small tool, specifically designed for vehicle emergencies, within easy reach of the driver's seat. It's good to have a seat belt cutter and a glass breaker in case you get trapped in the vehicle. I use the Res-Q-Me for that purpose. I discovered that if you get the visor mount for it you can attach it to any of the levers on the steering wheel, which keeps it handy.
