Popularity of face masks started with 3rd base and pitchers and slowly grew around the infield. Been catching on for the last 10-15 years or so. I have a pitcher's mask for slow pitch softball which is basically a skateboard helmet with an old school catcher's mask screwed to the front.

Worth every penny the first time you take a 100+mph line drive off the face from a over zealous gym rat trying to relive his glory days from high school ball in beer league softball using a modified bat.
I've been using this one for years and it's well worth it. Nice field of vision, easy to make plays with it without having to throw it off and will save you life and/or very expensive medical bills.

Don't buy it from this amazon link, it should be $70 bucks but for some reason the person selling it on there has it way over prices. There's a lot of other places you can get this exact same mask from
Get knee braces they will help a ton. Until you’re past probation you will just have to suck it up. Ice your knees at night and aspirin during the day.
Try these, I really don’t need them but I like the extra support though. They help keep the heat in too.

Once you’re past probation if you feel comfortable talk to the supervisor, or just go the steward.
You can use an athletic face protector. Should be fine while drilling, but I don't imagine it being effective during sparring with intensity

I am faced with the same predicament but I already had the rhino. I think going lighter and wearing a face mask like the one below may be viable. But I would still take at least a year off after your surgery. And even with the mask it’s still a risk and your nose could get even worse.
Look into protective face masks. Its one thing to be scared of a hitter as is. You have legitimate reasons to be scared. Google throws out something like this:mueller face mask
I think it’s supposed to be leather and the extra bit on the nose was reinforcement so he doesn’t break his nose too easily. It feels like a lot of inspiration was drawn from those face guards athletes occasionally wear to protect injuries.
Hey @/u/nickhod do you think something like this might work?
I think I might order one - get the comfort in the back and a nose shield in the front.

Nice.
I pitch too and after taking a line drive off the shin last year that would've sucked if it hit my head... I bought one of these:

Actually works really well and doesn't inhibit any vision.
I not sure what kind of positions you are in but would something like this help your knees? You'll look ridiculous while you are walking around but it might save you some future knee pain
I use these. Works perfectly fine for me.
Same type Kron Gracie uses and sells on his academy website I bought them, real cheap and super good!
I prefer long softball sliding knee pads like these at amazon They tend to help cut down on armor bites on the legs, protect the shins a bit, etc.
