In a pinch, deodorant on your thighs. They make products for this.

This brand works pretty well for me.
Skincare is my current special interest, and I still struggle to care for the skin below my neck because of that "sticky/oily" issue and because it feels like a tremendous effort. If you haven't tried it already, CeraVe's basic cream is an excellent face/body product that will repair your skin's natural barrier and should minimize any irritation you are experiencing. I get the most mileage out of applying it to damp skin after bathing and feel like I can put my clothes on pretty quickly without issue. You can find the 19 oz tub with a pump or order a pump for it separately if you prefer not to scoop out product. If this type of cream is too bothersome, I've unintentionally discovered that most baby lotion is quite thin and quickly dries to a matte finish. I would suggest it as a less moisturizing but potentially more comfortable option. Best of luck!
My dude, you need a stick of body glide. My husband uses this stuff and he has no chafing at all any more.

I've been using this one: CeraVe SA Cream

I feel like it'd be SO much better than vaseline- I think that would make everything goopy and wet. I have pretty sensitive skin, and I always use this with no problems. Plus the tube is deodorant-like and small enough to toss in a bag and reapply if it starts bothering you again! I've used it on places where itchy hems hit me and haven't had to reapply even after a full day though.
Please go invest in some body glide. It’s such a great product. Here’s a link to amazon. I don’t know if I could survive without this stuff.
It looks like eczema to me. I highly recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (not lotion, cream). The link is just for reference, you can probably find it on sale somewhere if you look. It was a game changer for my eczema. You do have to use it daily and consistently though (even after the visible eczema is gone).
As always, I recommend seeing a dermatologist, but I know that's difficult right now because COVID.
I use this Cerave cream. My skin is oily, but because I use Tazorac and azelaic acid, it is this weird bastardized version of oily/dry. If I don't moisturize at night my skin would probably crack and fall off, and would also be oily the whole time. This cream is the only thing I've ever tried that doesn't have me waking up in the morning with flakes on my face. It also rubs in to a satin finish. Unfortunately it caused some breakouts and my skin doesn't care for Cerave much. But, wonderful stuff! I also have tried the Illiyoon, had flakes every morning.
Not OP, but I was having a lot of flakiness as well. I'm still working on resolving hyperpigmentation, but I noticed a huge improvement in flakiness levels and have way more hydrated skin after starting to use ceraVe moisturizing cream and ceraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion.
After I cleanse, I don't dry my skin completely and slather on a good amount of the moisturizing cream. I let that sink in about 5 mins and then do a thick layer of the PM lotion. The PM lotion is a thick consistency so it's almost like using a mask and I feel like it really helps to plump my skin and to keep my skin's moisture locked in more. For any breakouts, I top with some vaseline.
You can purchase it on Amazon for $14 / 12 ounces. The most reliable source of info on the manufacturing status would come from the company itself.
They sell them in these little squeeze tubes. This was the first one I found on amazon.
I've seen them also at target in smaller sizes. Drug stores etc. But I'd get a squeeze tube so y'all don't tear each other apart. And yeah, you can also put it in another type of container (but again, I'd just suggest a squeeze tube or something, so I'd save yourself the time/mess of transferring and just buy it but that's me).
Also, fair warning from my personal experience... The "Butt Paste" stuff never worked as well for my little guy as aquaphor. My baby is mixed/Black though and aquaphor can cure literally anything for him or his dad so! Just our 2 cents haha. Best of luck to y'all!
If you consistently chafe in the same areas, consider placing kt take in those areas. For me it's the underbra area between the boobs, and the part of my inner arm that rubs against the seam of sleeveless tops. I've learned which shirts are good for short runs/long runs, certain fabrics are better than others. Gold bond makes an antichafe stick that I like: https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Friction-Defense-Unscented/dp/B007VC9DKI
You should try an anti-chafing stick..it looks like a container of deodorant, and you just glide it across areas that will rub together. Works really good, here's a link to the one a lot of people use, for $10 on Amazon(also at sporting goods stores)
Hey! I have somewhat combination skin, but I use prescription tretinoin and so my skin can get easily dry/dehydrated or irritated. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5 is my favorite nighttime moisturizer—I also use it in the AM during winter time with no issues. It has a rich consistency, great ingredients and I wouldn’t describe it as being greasy.
Aloe works for the pain, but for the actual skin, I use cicaplast balm from la roche posay. it is expensive, but you hardly need any. i have extremely pale skin so i burn very easily and this stuff whitens it so well. i’ve escaped most burns with just a few leftover freckles.cicaplast balm :))
I love La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ and the bottle is huge!
Personally I've used this product with great success.

And they make a version specifically for women also.

Gold Bond makes an anti-friction stick that is amazing as well and doesn't wear off as quickly as deodorant seems to for me.
This is the one, but I found it cheaper at Walgreens than on Amazon if you're in the US. https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Friction-Defense-Ounce/dp/B007VC9DKI/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469313063&sr=8-1&keywords=gold+bond+friction
What?? I get this one that's twice the size of the $7 in at the store for $10 on Amazon: Body Glide
I’ve gotten the 19 oz tub for $15 on Amazon (and it’s probably around $20-$25 in stores where I am) so the 19 oz tub and the smaller one for $20 is a steal for me!
Ooh yes I have this problem too but I found this Gold Bond Friction stick and it is amazing. It looks like deodorant. I just rub it on my thighs and boom no more chub rub. Was less than $5 I think

i have the same problem with sensitive skin.
with normal kitchen hand washing, my skin on my hands can get dry enough to crack all the way down to the flesh and can bleed. it hurts.
i've tried so many different types of lotions, and the only category that works are creams for eczema relief. i currently use Eucerin Eczema Relief. https://www.amazon.com/Eucerin-Eczema-Relief-Cream-Eczema-Prone/dp/B00DEXA0LY
as soon as you get home, wash your hands, dry them and apply once. in about 30-60 mins most of it will absorb. there will still be a light oily residue as with all moisturizers, but the majority of it will already be absorbed. try your best not to get your hands wet during this time.
some brands, like "neutrogena norwegian formula hand cream" offer extra crazy relief and regeneration but at the cost of super oily thick ass coating that takes forever to absorb. if you don't mind tracking that across your home then that's the best cream i've come across. in my opinion this stuff feels like vasoline petroleum jelly- it's that thick.
i prefer eucerin cuz the regen is almost as good as the neutrogena, but the fact that it can wash off easily if you had to wash your hands is nice. if you had to wash your hands with soap, you can just re apply again.
TL;DR get any moisturizer with eczema relief. apply religiously after work, especially right before you go to bed.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume is the only thing that doesn’t irritate my skin/break me out/break the bank. It’s amazing. It’s thick as heck, so be forewarned. You’ll probably want to look into an occlusive as well. Amazon link for LRP Moisturizer
hi friend, so sweet of you to look out for your mom! and a big thanks to her for all she is doing right now! 🙏🏼
as for hand creams, i will preface by saying i have a really annoying condition called raynaud’s syndrome that causes my hands to be very cold and painful, and, in addition to that, also have very sensitive skin that leaves me prone to bouts of eczema and/or painful dryness to the point of scratching/cutting open very easily. i washed my hands very often even in pre-pandemic times, so i have definitely had a hard time keeping my the skin on my hands happy, and have tried all of the things...i’m big into natural oils and basics like vaseline for other areas, but for my hands, they never work. i have tried most everything listed here already (o’keefe’s, bag balm, neutrogena hand cream, vaseline, coconut oil, argan oil, etc. etc. etc.), and it just isn’t enough, sits on top of my skin and doesn’t penetrate, or even actively stings it (looking at you, neutrogena). what i HAVE found that works very, very well is Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream — Colloidal Oatmeal Skin Protectant ’, which is fragrance free and very rich and soothing. i think perhaps the colloidal component is what works so well, for me at least. even if she doesn’t have eczema, i think it’s worth a try because it’s formulated so as not to irritate already irritated skin (be it from eczema or from the toll of constant hand washing/sanitizer use). i also apply it to my boyfriend’s hands after a kind weekend of DIY/manual labor, which leaves him with all sorts of cuts and irritation, and he really likes it too. it’s available on amazon (per the link), but i got mine in the lotion aisle in target, so i think it’s pretty easy to find.
even if you don’t go with this one, i do hope something you find gives her some relief. good luck! 💕
I discovered your post a few days ago and found it very informative. I wanted to buy the Eucerin 5% urea cream, but on Amazon it says it will take like 15-25 days to arrive, but I guess it's just worth the wait and I've seen good things said about it.
EDIT: The Sebamed 5% urea cream one looks good too
KP is caused by the plugging of hair follicles. Salicylic acid helps break up the material that causes the plugging and can improve the appearance. Cerave SA cream is a very good product. Would recommend twice daily application x 3 months for improvement.

Great next level tips here.
I can second Darn Tough socks and I would also suggest investing in some LL Bean slippers.
Also related to footwear--those slip on ice cleats you can put over your boots can be really handy. We go through a lot of freeze/thaw cycles and that can make sidewalks super icy. Especially if you do a lot of walking, those will allow you to go about your business normally.
The humidifiers and lotion are great suggestions. this is my fave lotion, without it my skin would slough off in ribbons in the winter. If you don't have a humidifier, you can also just put a pot of water on the stove (through some spices in there like cinnamon sticks or cloves if you're feeling festive) and that works just as good.
Try a different soup recipe every week. Warms you up from the inside, makes you happy, goes well with fresh baked bread, and you'll have enough to last for a few meals.
I was reminded of the importance of Vitamin D supplements in the last few weeks. Was dragging ass for seemingly no reason and then I remembered to start taking it again and felt normal in a day or two.
For getting outside, something simple like snow shoeing is super accessible. Also, I love a firepit in winter. Invite some friends over, make some mulled wine, get out a ton of blankets and sit around the fire...perfection
Yep, honestly the tubs would be fine too, just try it it really works well :)
$9.59 (also dunno why the Amazon link is so long)
I found it on Amazon.
