Yes, but it has to be an active adapter and not passive. I have this one and have not had any issues:
I had shitty USB 3 sockets on my motherboard so the Index controllers were not pairing correctly. Luckily I have an RTX graphics card with a USB C socket. I used this adapter and everything was hunky dory afterwards.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Type-C-Gen1-Female-Adapter/dp/B01GGKYXVE
It depends on the connection, you occasionally need an 'active' adapter like this one which I had to purchase to hook a desktop I own up to my TV.
I don't think they make 'active' cables, do they?
Correct, that dongle is for the Chromebook Pixel. Almost no Android phone these days contains the chip needed for HDMI output natively. The solution I use that is very reliable in most situations is an adapter that uses the DisplayLink protocol.
I use this adapter or the 2K version: https://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=9SIA2XB38Z2801 It's also on Amazon, I just found this link first. You'll also need a USB 3.0 capable USB-C OTG adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01COOQIKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_T.Pxyb7RV5ABE
And lastly, install the DisplayLink Presenter app on your device. Once set up it will output the full display at all times (though media apps like Netflix and Hulu generally don't work).
Most industries refer to "the thing being plugged in to" as the "female" port.
Yes. You can use a USB-A to USB-C cable to connect a regular GameCube adapter, or you can buy a wireless adapter like this one.
These cables are indeed directional. A DP to HDMI cable goes from a DP video source to a HDMI screen. The reverse also exists, a HDMI source to DP screen cable. Here's an example of one. Note how it takes power from an auxiliary USB connector.
Note that most of these adapters are very limited, they don't support 4K @ 60Hz or 1080 @ more than 60 Hz. A couple of more advanced ones exist though with 4K @ 60 Hz. Also, nothing can convert VRR from HDMI to DP, all adapters are limited to a fixed refresh rate.
I imagine Oculus will have recommendations on cables, they might even include longer cables with the standalone camera. A 10ft extension combined with the cameras cable should be way more than you need and that's only $6.50 on Amazon. A 2 pack of 6' cables (should be enough for most) is $10.
I recommend swapping to a USB-C->DisplayPort adapter and DisplayPort cable rather than HDMI - its just less complicated that way.
Here is the one that we typically recommend: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-USB-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable/dp/B01EXKDRAC
Just FYI, this worked great. It even does 4k video on a 1080p@60 screen with no stutters. Thanks again.
>On my new MacBook It says up to 480mb/s (using the type C adapter).
Yup, there’s your problem right there. I assume that you’re using the same cable with both computers, so it’s almost certainly the adapter that’s causing the issue.
Your initial plan to get that cable sounds good to me. An adapter like this or this would also work.
That is the cheapest one i see on amazon you should buy a USB-OTG dongle to your Android phone, then connect the USB game controller to that. Games with controller support should detect the device, and you'll be ready to play (BTW, Nice Phone)

This is a hardware issue, you need active DisplayPort adapters.
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Technology/dp/B00EDT0072
https://www.startech.com/en-us/faq/displayport-converter-dp-multi-mode
Looks like you would need an active (powered) converter like this, but although that item description says 4k it doesn't have enough bandwidth for a good refresh rate for gaming. There probably is something that works but it might be expensive.
"Just for being sure, you tried the following setup: x230 with internal display, 4338 Dock, and 2 monitors connected with a dp cable or an active adapter and all 3 displays worked in extended mode?"
I tried it with a T430, 4338 dock and dual external monitors. Because I don't have a regular size DisplayPort to HDMI active cable I tried it with a mini-DP to HDMI active cable from the T430's mini-DP port (while docked it won't let me use the port at all).
So if you have a regular size DP to HDMI active cable it might work for the third monitor if you have it connected to the dock.
"Also, what exactly do you mean by saying choppy."
Some of the older adapters in the past were sluggish (like low framerate) even at the desktop doing basic non-video related tasks and newer adapters don't really have that problem. A newer adapter like this should work well:
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-SuperSpeed-Adapter-Windows/dp/B00BPEV1XK
You specifically need an adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort. DisplayPort to HDMI cables only work the opposite way that you’re wanting to do it sadly!
So for example you’d need something like this
First of all, let's solve the easy one first.
Question#2, No it will not work. You need to have an active DP-to-HDMI converter to plug in one DP output of the DisplayPort KVM switch for the 1080p@60hz HDMI monitor can be shared.
For the KVM switch, you listed and Dell W19TB docking station is not recommended.
If you are serious about getting smooth workflows in setting up the best dual monitor DP KVM switch. Dell W19TB is a good docking station only for Dell laptops and for working as a stand-alone docking station. It is not designed for sharing and support KVM switches.
The docking station's MST core will kill any KVM switch because MST dynamically pushes and adjust the video bandwidth for the multi-video outputs.
My recommendation:
KVM switch: UDP2-12AP-KIT
Thunderbolt Docking station: CalDigit TS3 Plus
(you may need to add CAC-1557 (type-c-to-DP) cable to the CalDigit TS3 Plus to provide second DP output to the KVM switch.
Active DP-to-HDMI converter: Plugable DP-to-HDMI converter.
** all hardware recommended are fully tested and having proofed working records as a total solution.
I don't claim to be an expert, but that looks about right! Just going off what I learnt via google when I encountered this problem. This is the adapter I am currently using with my Huion Kamvas 16 2021: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00S0C7QO8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_OMx4FbWPNPMBK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe the monitor only accepts a 4k input through DisplayPort, rather than HDMI.
Try to buy a HDMI to displayport adapter (don't get confused with DP to HDMIs adapters or cables which only work FROM DP TO HDMI. It has to be from HDMI to DisplayPort. These adapters are usually one-way, so don't get them mixed up)
This one should work: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Cable-Matters-Adaptador-DisplayPort-resoluci%C3%B3n/dp/B00JQORLCG You'll need a DP to DP cable, too. Get any DP 1.4 cable.
If that ends up not being the issue, just return it.
There's really no super complex rocket-science involved here. You just need to look for an External Monitor that has enough variety of video-inputs (ports) such that whatever cables you need work on both Windows and Mac. (it's not really that difficult).
I've used both of these before:
Plugable USB-C to DisplayPort: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EXKDRAC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Uni USB-C to HDMI: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L882KQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
SO it really comes down to:
find a Monitor in the price range you want to pay for
make sure it has the video-IN ports that work for both of your systems
if it has some limitation (only certain Ports),. that's really not a big deal because there's a pretty wide range of adapter cables out there.
If I’m understand correctly then yep. So for example you’re using something like this to connect it while in handheld mode?
A USB-C to USB-A adapter along with a supported USB-A Ethernet adapter will work. You should be able to find cheaper ones than this as well
Check out this post for information on finding a supported Ethernet adapter
Reading up on the R9 290 it looks like it can't actually output 4k over HDMI, only the Displayport. Best way to make it work would be a an Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter like this one on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017BQ8I54/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_1_r
If you don't get that exact one, make sure to get one that is an "Active Adapter"
Yes, there is a TB3 port that you can use to connect to a displayport monitor so you can get 144hz if you want. I did it with a cable from amazon
Works great, now I did have some difficulty getting my games to get up to that many FPS, but I did manage it eventually with enough tweaking.
No idea about Amazon.
You may need some USB extensions, depending on how you plan to run stuff, these are known to work:

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-SuperSpeed-Female-Extension/dp/B00DMFFL2W?th=1
A few other things:
As others have mentioned, the Odyssey's tracking relies on the room having enough light for the cameras to see.
While the Vive works great in total darkness, you have to remember to turn on the lights at night to make the Odyssey work.
And one other thing I should mention is that the cable is a bit short on the Odyssey, I had to buy some extension cables from Amazon to be comfortable I wouldn't accidentally yank out or break the connectors.
I went with these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C7SA21U/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D5H91KE/
USB C - USB (Amazon) you can!!
Sadly, this can't be done with a passive cable. All passive conversion can only go DP->Something else
You'll need an active converter like this to go from HDMI to DP and you'll obviously be limited to HDMI level features.
