My legs feel really heavy/ swollen and tired after a regular day of walking/ sitting/ standing. I hate that tight feeling! I started wearing compression socks (but not while out walking...I have too much pride!!) and they're really, really helped a lot!
Purchased these to keep at my work studio
Also trying to remember to foam roll my legs after workouts and at night before bed. Putting your legs up against a wall, with your back on the floor, is also great for when your legs feel super tight.
I had shin spints BAD and bought shin compression sleeves from amazon and they worked wonders.

These are the ones I used when I strained my calf last summer. Multiple washes and still stays on nice and tug.
The doctor said it could help, and I'm sure some of the relief was psychosomatic, but I never had any troubles with looseness, rashes, chaffage, etc.
My son has them bad and had to run miles and miles for job training. He said the biggest help was professionally fitted running shoes and calf sleeves. I don’t know exactly which ones he bought, but they are like these: Copper Compression Recovery Calf Sleeves - Shin Splint Leg Sleeves. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B013L5BIX8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3YDSXWKWHYEH5WHCY787
If you don’t want to invest in sleeves, you can google Shin Splints K-Tape and you’ll see instructions on how to tape up your shins.
As for recovery, rest, ice, heat. Good luck, and get well soon! 💪👍

When I first started running after years of no activity, I had horrible shin splints. The stretches didn't seem to help. I got a pair of compression sleeves, and for me they made all the difference in the world. I got these.
I think I got mine on Amazon . For size reference I was a 14 year old, 125lb girl at the time and I got mediums which were a perfect fit.
If you can afford it - get a Strassburg Sock. They truly work.
These also helped, quite a bit - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0775GMN13/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. They really help with calf soreness
I joined OTF a month ago to change up my workout routine. I would experience shin and calf/tendon pain on my right side while on the tread. Getting new shoes and wearing calf compression sleeves helped relieve the pain. I got these from Amazon and they work great for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PZ5HTGS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eWEnEb5TJMZ9B
In addition to OTF, I take an indoor cycling class on Saturday. Biking can be a killer workout. You’ll burn just as many calories as you would on the tread with the right amount of tension and speed.
From what I have read compression leg sleeves help with shin splits a lot. I purchased these to help with my calves getting hard after running for 20 minutes and seem to help a lot.

I have these and I like them a lot so far! Great customer service too-I ordered the wrong size and inquired about returning them and they immediately refunded me. I also have a pair of compression socks from Physix that I like as well.
sleeve i wear it when I run and don't feel any pain. Lucky it's just my right shin
I can relate to the body aches and missing beer. I am on my feet all day at work too and find that I can't live without my Zensah compression leg sleeves and my Alegria shoes. My hips have been killing me since the second trimester and I get wicked sciatic pain, which feels like someone is poking me with electricity or a knife in my butt crack at the most convenient of times. Hang in there, we can make it.
Let's talk about the beer for a minute- summer is the worse time to be preggos. I am not a big drinker at all, but I do miss having a nice beer or cocktail while out to eat or just on a hot summer afternoon. Here's to you Oberon (one of my go to summer beers), I'll drink you again next summer. Also just found out my favorite restaurant is opening a taco stand/speak easy combo this fall... I can't wait to have this baby and try a prohibition era cocktail with a side of tacos.
Hey,
I've had very bad AT issues in the past, and the thing that helped the most is the Strausburg Sock. The idea of it is that while you're resting the AT is held in a slight stretch position for an extended period of time.
When my AT issues was at its worst, I could barely get out of bed without screaming hysterically in pain when I would first put pressure on the affected foot.
Now, I use it all the time, but I wear it differently that the manufacturer advises: After a run, as soon as I'm done with my normal stretching routine, I put on the sock, but I cinch it up so that the AT is in a hard stretch, and I lay on a couch for about 1/2 hour.
It really is the silver bullet for AT..if you wear it consistently

I used to get insane shin splints when I first started running.
Stretch before and after a run of course.
Throw out your cheap Walmart shoes. Make an investment in some good shoes. They do not need to be insanely priced, they just have to over some good support.
The biggest thing that helped me was compression sleeves. They cost me about $40 but I've had the same pair for 3 years. They are amazing and now I don't even have to use them more.
Those stretches help and some compression sleeves should help too. http://www.amazon.com/Meister-Graduated-20-25mmHg-Compression-Running/dp/B00FT467UO/
Also getting good shoes to run in will help. Did all three and it has made a world of difference.
This could be the start of stress fractures. Here's an article describing what you might be looking at. There are also some products out there that compress shins and can provide relief http://www.runnersworld.com/injury-treatment/a-stress-fracture-primer
edit: Here's the product I was talking about on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Zensah-Compression-Sleeves-Black-Medium/dp/B002U2NKM6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
Cool. Just by doing those exercises a few times a day, icing my shins, and wearing compression sleeves I was able to get past the pain quickly. It was also Plyo Cardio Circuit that really killed my shins, as well as another specific workout which I can't remember off the top of my head. These are the compression sleeves I got. They aren't too pricey and have held up great after a year of abuse and going through the washer/dryer a billion times.
I haven't bought new shoes, but I did buy these. They feel great on, and the product got good reviews, so I'm optimistic that they'll help, but I haven't tried them out yet because I'm giving my shins a bit more time to heal before I get back into things.
Hope you find a solution to your problem!
Great job! And happy cake day! I got really bad shin splits when I started the program. I suggest something like these.
They're a pain in the butt to get off once they're drenched in sweat, but the shins splints will happen less and less often. I rarely use mine anymore.
Just keep going! The best thing you can do is be consistent. Remember, it isn't a race (yet!). You're just trying to condition your body to jog for ~45 minutes straight. When you start feeling the progress you'll feel a lot better about it.
You got this!
I had problems with Achilles pain. You do need to take it easy, but after it felt better, this calf brace really helped. I still wear it just to be safe.
