We've been using these for years with no issues. I am 6'1" 215 lbs and it does the job just fine.
Appreciate the video and suggestion! I had a really hard time finding a cot that would fit in the back without removing the seat bottoms. Ended up with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075D2J2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It fits but barely. the rear legs can't even be extended fully but it maintains the final form. I added some cut pool noodles to stop the bars from scratching things up.
If this REI cot goes on sale, I'll consider replacing mine.
Try out a cot instead, man. No inflation needed... ready to-use in two minutes and totally off the floor. Prolly cheaper than any air mattress too
Team cot for sure. I just picked up a Teton XXL cot and it's like a bed, of course you would need a tent to fit it. Nice and tight with no sag, fairly easy to put together, and folds up pretty compact. Get a sleeping mat ontop and you will be golden.
I second the cots. We bought two coleman cots this year and it's freaking amazing. I feel like I slept in a regular bed each night. plus when you push them together and make it up, it kind of looks like a little bed in your tent. It's one of the greatest camping/fest purchases I've made. I won't go without them anymore.
Here's a link to the ones we have. The "deluxe" model is worth the extra 10 bucks or whatever since it's about 6'2" instead of 5'7" Coleman Deluxe Cot-Amazon
Someone mentioned a coleman cot being the best sleep he's had at roo.
I found this one on Amazon and will likely get it: https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000020273-32-Inches-Pack-Away-Cot/dp/B0043AK0O4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1525981027&sr=8-5
I just bought and received from amazon the following: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AU6AVLW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Perks: getting off the floor will help with heat trapping, underneath can be used as storage, comfortable mattress that comes with it.
Cons: it is kinda heavy, but it collapses down to a decent size. Think of the collapsed size of an EZ Up tent.
I haven't set it up yet, however. I am planning on doing that tonight to make sure everything is kosher.
I still have my grandpa's cot from WWII. Army green canvas material, wood frame, metal brackets. The end supports have two holes in them so you can choose the firmness of your cot. It's actually pretty comfortable. I'm 240 lbs and it supports me on it with no issues. The make creaking sounds like a wooden rocking chair when you move on it no matter your weight.
Here's a more modern version of the same thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003696236/?coliid=I26XKVS5BA8ZJ0
The originals just had a single pin pivot point on the legs (like in op's video) whereas the newer one has a bracket on the legs.
I have a nice coleman cot with air mattress on top. Its almost as comfortable as my bed at home. I have the queen size one, since I need to share it with 2 large dogs, and it is a bitch to haul around. Totally worth it though. I also put down one of the outdoor rugs next to the bed, since its a bit more comfortable for the dogs to may on then the tent floor.
Why not both?
I have a Coleman setup that puts a queen size air mattress on top of a double cot (for 2 of us) with a little sleeve that holds the mattress in place: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AU6AVLW/.
Pretty much the best of both worlds. Raises you up and gives you under bed storage like a cot while giving you the cushion and adjustability of an air mattress. And the air mattress fails, you're still on a cot! I've been using it since 2017 for burning man and many other camping trips and it's still going strong. Only thing that's failed is the carrying case it came with (ripped open last year). With some proper bedding on top of the mattress (I have use mattress pad + fitted sheet @ burning man) it's also very lux.
They also make smaller versions of this if you're just one person.
For $211CA you can get one of these: [https://www.amazon.ca/Coleman-Camping-Mattress-Folding-Battery/dp/B00AU6AVLW?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref\_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER\\](https://www.amazon.ca/Coleman-Camping-Mattress-Folding-Battery/dp/B00AU6AVLW?source...
I have one of these things and it's pretty amazing--always pull it out when I have guests over and they always love it--I slept on it myself for a while between moves.
OP: could you possibly consider a portable cot like this one and add a foam pad if needed? Then it’s smaller, but you’re still off the floor.
Just wanted to add: If army cots aren't your thing, a folding bed could be nice, too.
I don't know your height/weight, but something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-ComfortSmart-Deluxe-Camping-Cot/dp/B0073WJACW/
You’re welcome. I purchased this particular cot. I’d watched YT reviews before the purchase so I knew it’s weight and difficulty of set up. If you buy this particular one, stand it up on its side when you are trying to latch the second bar in place. Use your foot on the side metal rail for leverage. I found it took a lot of upper body strength but with lots of tries and sweat dripping from head to toe, I was able to lock it.
I snuck a peek at your profile and we are essentially the same weight. I really preferred being off the ground for the ease of getting out of the dang bed! My cot isn’t perfect but good enough for a budget camper and can hold 300lbs of weight. It’s sturdy.
This is what I got for this summer. First trip is in a couple weeks, but after just an air mattress on the ground last year I wanted to get up higher, but still need room on the bed with me for the dogs.
Here’s the link. I bought last Fall under new/used. Since then the prices have gone up also I just noticed. They are heavy but solid. Camping Cot
Since my wife and I got this like 10 years ago we haven’t gone back to anything else
Coleman Camping Cot, Air Mattress, and Pump Combo | Folding Camp Cot and Air Bed with Side Tables and Battery Operated Pump https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AU6AVLW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HHRKZDQDVE210SQRDK2M
In my experience a cheap one won't last you more than a month before you start waking up on a partially deflated bag with awful back and neck pain from the awkward position.
You could go for a more expensive one, but at this point you're probably better just spending that money on a cheap mattress/frame and getting it delivered and then hauled away when you move.
If you need a portable bed I recommend getting a camping cot with a mattress pad.

Back when I camped I used Coleman Camping Cot, Air Mattress, and Pump Combo | Folding Camp Cot and Air Bed with Side Tables and Battery Operated Pump https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AU6AVLW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_E3E0E05Q0AG00G93CMYM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
. Was nice to be off the ground . I also just used a canopy with walls and ditched the tent. Much more room and less hot.
I couldnt agree more. I’m a HATER of air mattresses. I have the Coleman pack away cot with a Teton sleeping pad on top and I sleep like an absolute queen at festivals. Bonus - you can store your luggage and bags underneath the cots.
At least some of Teton's cots are offset on each side so that two of them will fit together - this is a Q they answered on one of their Amazon listings, you might contact them directly to confirm: "Can i put two 32 inch width cots together and use the teton mammoth sleeping bag for my wife and i? I hope to put our thermarests on top of cots
Answer:Hi Ashton,
Thanks for reaching out and great question. Yes, you can slide two Adventurer Camp Cot's together. The cutouts on the rails that slide in on the head and foot portion of the cot are not evenly spaced so that you can slide two cots together. They'll be offset on one side so it's closer to the cot frame. That's where you'd slide the second cot to make a double-wide. The Universal Camp Cot is 85" x 32" x 19" while the Mammoth Bags are all 62" wide, so yes that should work great, especially with pads underneath.
Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. see less

I wonder if it will fit in the back of .mav with the tailgate down https://www.amazon.com/Kamp-Rite-SS-SMS-3442033-Oversize-Tent-Cot/dp/B000I641UQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=11R6ZGWRWG84D&keywords=cot+tent&qid=1643164002&sprefix=cot+tent%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-3
These are great but anyone wanting another option might want to check out this cot: https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-ComfortSmart-Cot/dp/B0073WJACW?th=1
2 cots fit perfectly side by side and we have storage options underneath.
I was gifted a Teton Sport Outfiter XXL and it is HUGE. It is rated to 600lbs and seems like it is just never going fail. I have had some of the Army Surplus ones years ago and this one feels pretty much like them but bigger.
I use a basic Coleman XL. It’s a bit heavy, only good for car camping, but it’s 42” wide, comfortable, cheap, and comes with a little nightstand attached to the side.
This has been my default sleeper for the past 5 years.
I have this Coleman set up for my bed. It’s a cot & mattress (so if your mattress leaks air, you still have support and can get out of bed a little easier): https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Camping-Mattress-Folding-Battery/dp/B00AU6AVLW/
I also have this Intex inflatable corner couch for chilling in. *The price usually dips to $80… it looks like it’s $114 currently: https://www.amazon.com/Intex-Inflatable-Corner-Sectional-Cupholders/dp/B079Z2QWYQ/
This one is 22lbs. I keep one at home for guests and sometimes lug it around in the truck for fishing trips. Would recommend adding some sort of closed-cell foam pad for warmth.
These are the best cots!! No bar across your back...super comfy....and huge!! I definitely recommend!!
Get a cot instead of an inflatable mattress: far more comfortable than any mattress.

You're welcome.
I've been interested in putting a more permanent bed in. This Coleman Comfortsmart is comfy but only fits with the center cupholder console pulled out and the passenger seat all the way forward. I really liked u/_car2d2_'s build which (confirmed with my tape measure) will clear the floor console and allow me to snap in one seat while the bed is in.
I may or may not build this due to lumber prices and a growing itch to upgrade to a sprinter, but some notes on it below:
If I build it, I'll share pics, I promise :)
