And a Leatherman as mentioned, probably a Surge for a kit like that.
I just bought this after spending some time on ih8mub. We’ll see, it seems like the right way.

The antenna for your Sirius XM is on top of the roll bar, so no worries there.
I just grabbed the first Prime next-day stubby that fit the JL/JT and ignored it after that.
They still ask me at my carwash about mirrors and antenna, I just nod and go.
Edit to add, this is the one I bought, there are MANY like it: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00651CLCS/

I got this one from Amazon last week. Haven’t seen a reception difference. $20
Not totally sure, it should only go up if you are in the radio mode on the factory head-unit. If you're listening to a tape or cd, it should be down. That's why the feature was important to me, I almost never listen to the radio and would prefer the antenna to just stay down.
Most aftermarket units will extend your antenna as soon as you power it up, regardless of what input you are using and there is no way to retract it. Even though I have mine working how I want, I'm considering moving to a small antenna.
I got this one and it works great. It’s even a bit less expensive than the other one posted here.

Means it's not fully engaged or too short to activate the cutoff.
I got fed up with mine and ordered a stubby with conversion.. Yes, they are expensive. Very little difference in reception. No more worrying about it retracting or not.
If you really want a long whip. Contact them they will charge a little more but replace the whip with a 16" one. Cheaper and easier then doing a tundra antenna swap. Less annoying then having a power retract one that will break again in the future. Now worry about trail/car wash damage with the stubby.

I bought the following. It gets decent reception but I hardly listen to the radio and I live in the city. No sure how well it’d work in the country. CravenSpeed Stubby Jr Antenna... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081QN854G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It really helped and it looks a lot better too. Not having the long one sticking out. I did notice I lose reception with Sirius a little when I go through some taller buildings but it’s expected with the antenna only being 2” long. I’m not sure how it is with the regular radio yet.
This is also available on Amazon for same price, w free shipping for Prime members

I highly recommend this one. No signal issues. Had it for a couple weeks now. Pretty cheap for a Jeep mod too.
I have this one and it’s not perfect, but it has impressed the hell out of me I would say 85% as good as the factory. If you are getting along fine with the UV 5R you could just get a different antenna setup. Below is a link to the ABREE folding antenna. They fold down from like 40 inches long into three overlapping segments for travel. Think like a long measuring tape that can fold over on itself and then fold back over on itself to be more compact. There are other antennas out there as well. You might want to try posting on the han radio subreddit which gets a lot more traffic and ask how to improve your reception. I'm not an expert at this.

OEM style antenna sucks and will break again. Use this one:

First of all, love the camo! I have a soft spot for woodland.
Anyways, looks good man, the only thing I would change personally is get an extendable antenna for that radio that’s taking up spaces for the left shoulder pocket. That’ll free up that area for shoulder transistions (which you should learn anyways if you haven’t) so it’s not banging into the antenna and your wasting time trying to pocket it.
I have this antenna and I have been using this cable extension
I just bought this 3 days ago. I've not noticed a decline in quality at all from the regular radio. NOTE: the fin is for your SiriusXM satellite radio. I don't recommend getting rid of that but I've not looked into replacement options for that. What's great about this replacement antenna is that it's an all copper core. That's what you want since copper is a greater conductor. I'm probably getting better reception than the OEM one but I haven't noticed it audibly. I haven't taken a picture of it on yet but I can when I get back to my BS around 3pm central.

It is a collapsible antenna found here and the cable extension here for the baofeng uv-5r.
I have it on my backpack on a rip away Molle Velcro pad because if I’m doing anything outside I’ll need a water source and food/snacks. Plus also contains extra mags/water purification tablets and other things. So I will need to carry a bladder. If it’s on my carrier anywhere but the lower back of the pc (where it used to be) I would need to take off my pc to attach it properly again. So with my backpack I can just remove that and have the medkit right in front of me without taking it off.
My thinking and situation though lol
I bought a stubby on Amazon for like $20 and it works great. Ill grab the link.
edit: here it is. Surprisingly, still gets good radio reception, despite the shorter length, but i think the antenna is the same length, just more compact like a rubber ducky for a ham radio.
Cravenspeed on Amazon. It's made out of metal and is powder coated. $19

Replace the old antenna with a shark fin. I promise it looks 10x better. I got this [Shark Fin Antenna](www.amazon.com/dp/B07KZNWX32?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) one on amazon and it’s easy to put on (just unscrew, screw, and stick to the car).
That might honestly be simpler. Any recommendations for a VHF monoband portable antenna? A 1/2 wave would put it at about 40 inches. Would something like this offer an advantage in both terrains?
