The Verizon prepaid version of the Moto G Play is $50 on Amazon. Really good phone for that price.
Supposedly you must activate it on Verizon Prepaid first before you're able to swap in your sim. Check out the "answered questions" on the Amazon page.
If you want to be extra safe, the unlocked Moto G Play from Amazon is $99 if you get the one with lockscreen ads. That one can be activated on any carrier you want.
I use an old LG Optimus somethingorother as my pocket ereader. Several years ago, Amazon offered this little bitty thing for something like $15, and I jumped on that sale. It has been a complete joy. I disabled everything except the kindle app, and the google books app, and it is the best little ereader! If I keep wifi turned off, the battery will easily last two days of vacation reading - meaning - several hours on the plane or bus or car or whatever. Like you, I don't want to drain my phone. Best $15 I've ever spent!
edited to add - just out of curiosity, I looked it up. Optimus Exceed 2. My order indicates that I spent $14.99, yet Amazon will sell you one, today, for $90. What a riot!

Whether she'd be able to get service on her hike is questionable, but this phone is the smallest and would have at least a chance of being smuggled in. As for avoiding the camp... I wish I knew of a way.
I know Amazon isn't great, but that tends to be where I buy my unlocked phones from.

Fantastic back camera (I don't use front facing camera, so I can't speak to that). Headphone jack. SD card (I have a 1TB card in mine). No wireless charging so I can't speak to that. No complaints about performance (I mostly use my phone for social, social media, and Internet). It can play games just fine, on the rare occasion I've played games on the phone.
The only things I dislike: no wireless charging (minor inconvenience), and the edge part of the phone took some getting used to. I purchased this phone a year ago, and it's still going strong. I'd ideally like to get up to 5 years out of this phone, so we'll see. I think this phone can do 5G? I'm with Verizon and they want to charge extra if I turn 5G on, so I haven't bothered.
The Motorola G100, Edge, Edge 20 Pro, and Razr 5G can all be considered upgrades to the 5G Ace, if you want to stick with the Motorola Line.

It says "international", even though the one I bought was shipped and sold by Amazon.com in the US. I see it actually says no volte on the link. Its working just fine on lte right now. Should I be returning it? My googling skills leave me thinking it isnt going to work with this new change. I'll happily switch to FI instead but sounds like that wont work either.

You can snag the G8 plus on Amazon for just over $200. Same cpu, better camera, no stylus, less storage, and Android 9 instead of 10.
Downside is that it's international, so no warranty and it's only compatible with GSM carriers, but I've had mine for 2 months and no issues with calling or texting on ATT.

Generally the G series (without the 8) is slated for the US. Various models of the G8 can be purchased through retailers both in the US and abroad (Like this). In fact the G8 power was available for a little bit of time on Amazon but is missing now. The G power (and G Stylus) is designed specifically for the US market, the G8 is aimed for the Eurpopean market with a few cavets.
Also, the G Power is not quite available yet, pre-orders and such.

Firstly I use both an IP Relay online for sustained communications where I am not familiar with the person. Finally I wish people would know that I am not "weird" or whatever just because I have such conditions and others. Seriously people tend to view me as such and what not which makes going to the store or what not infuriating. I was even YELLED at from a guy to MOVE OVER when I was just doing my things. NA FGO Player here - looking to move to a new phone since my Nexus 6P's battery is turning to be a joke.
Soooo the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-IMX386-Camera-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B079816Y5T) caught my eye but have seen threads here expressing issues with Chinese smartphones and FGO in general. This phone appears to be running MIUI 9 on top of Android N. My question is there anyone can confirm that NA FGO will work with it or just with MIUI 9 in general?
If not, I'll have to look for something else more mainstream because FGO compatibility is of utmost importance!
If you are into prepaid versions then the moto g play is your best bet at this price, has the longest battery life for a phone under 100 dollars. Also there is the moto g4 play which has lockscreen ads if you don't mind you can get under 100 dollars as a prime users.
Nah man the phones you listed are too old. They won't run modern apps.
There is a phone called the Moto G Play on Amazon. The cheaper version is only $50. It is only compatible with Verizon prepaid but if you're not using it for phone/data service, only wifi as a personal media player, it's totally fine. It has a micro SD card slot so you can add as much stuff as you want, it runs a recent version of Android (Marshmallow; not quite the newest but it's new enough), and it has 2 GB of RAM so it won't be frustratingly slow to use.
EDIT: That model appears to be sold out for the next few weeks. If you can't wait for it, the BLU R1 HD should be fine. It's only $50-$60 if you are willing to have Amazon ads on the lock screen. I would strongly recommend spending the extra $10 to get double the RAM though - having not enough RAM will seriously impact day to day usability. Back when I had a phone with 1 GB of RAM, my music would frequently stop playing because I ran out all the time. 2 GB is the bare minimum for basic functionality in Android.
