She wants in to sleep with you. You can put a door mat, i use this one. Solved my problem
CarPET Scratch Stopper 30 - Stop Cats From Scratching Carpet at Doorway https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D00MXZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CERdBbCF4MG69
You can also get double sided anti cat scratch tape on amazon that’s easy to apply to furniture. I take it off when company is over, but my cats only scratch the back corners of things so clear tape isn’t that noticeable and since we’ve had the house on the market we’ve stoped putting tape on the more obvious areas of our sofa and the cats haven’t been scratching that I’ve noticed almost like they’ve been conditioned not to. https://www.amazon.com/SmartyKat-Scratch-Anti-Scratch-Deterrent-Barrier/dp/B001FKC584/ref=sr_1_14?crid=S3VBLQKU7DSM&dchild=1&keywords=anti+cat+scratch+tape&qid=1600298174&sprefix=Anti+cat+scratch+%2Caps%2C306&sr=8-14
Looks like this. I had one. My cat loved it. But she scratched so many little bits of cardboard off it, and that stuff got everywhere. I've even moved since throwing it away, and I still find flecks of cardboard from her stupid scratcher.
Don’t forget scratching beds/posts! We had to show our kitten the first few times and continued to reward with treats every time for a couple weeks, but couch scratching has basically been a non-issue.
She liked this one as a small kitten because of the cubby holes, now likes to lay on it as she’s gotten bigger.
Bitter apple spray for cables works wonders. It's non-toxic but tastes terrible. We did it once in cables and never needed to again as the cat learned quickly.
My cat loves the balls on a track toys - like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IYSAIW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_GCRVN16SFF5EFWVJ908X. and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DT2WL26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_MF0GPRK00PY9XB4E847W
My cat used to do this alot, I put these double sided tape sheets on the bottom of the mirror and the little bugger stopped

They usually sell them in most pet stores as well. This brand is incredible and has lasted YEARS for my cat. Just gotta buy the replacement pads every now and again!
Your only option is to order silly things from Amazon so the package man will come and bring more boxes. Our UPS driver is incredibly hot, so this is now my go-to approach.
This product helped us out a lot. If it doesn't work, at least it came in a box???
My cat used to do this too.. I bought a plastic sheet to put around the door. Something like: CarPET Scratch Stopper - Stop Cats From Scratching Carpet at Doorway https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D00MXZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nzVwFbVPJ4JHG
I actually went to my local home improvement store and bought a sheet of the material this uses and cut it into shape myself to save a couple bucks.
Since putting this in, as well as putting a vertical scratching post (SmartCat Pioneer Pet Ultimate Scratching Post https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000634MH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gCVwFbK952MW0 ) right next to the door, he just sits and meows for a few minutes when I bring him in to sleep at night.
As for the cupboard problem, I’d recommend getting some child safety locks. My cat learned how to open the drawer we keep his string toys in so that became an essential.. I also recommend trying to get into a schedule of playing with them every day so they know when to get their energy out and are less likely to find something to destroy.
SmartyKat Anti Scratch Training Aids https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FKC584/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qOZoFbR5887D3
This stuff works great and you can’t see it. They don’t like the feel of it and just leave it alone. Have used it for years with multiple cats. Also, make sure your scratching post is sturdy and vertical like the couch. And some catnip spray may attract him to the scratcher.
I have the turbo cat scratcher from Amazon and my 1 year old cat loves it. I definitely recommend the Aldi Find, especially at $6.99! I paid more than twice that!

For scratching furniture, I highly recommend StickyPaws on amazon! It’s definitely helped a lot for our kitties.
Sticky Paws Pioneer Pet Cat Training Aid - Deter Scratching - Sticky Sheets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007I08FI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9DAtFbGNHZ0Z1
My Sukie cat loves her Bergan Turbo Scratcher . My boyfriend is amazed at how much value she gets out of this thing. She sits on it, scratches at it, chases the ball, sleeps on it, pounces on it from the bed, drools all over it when I sprinkle some catnip in there. The best thing is that the cat can use it by themselves! I'm often woken up in the middle of the night to the distinctive sound of the ball rolling around in the plastic groove.
I know there is some tape like stuff that you can put on the furniture to prevent their scratching. No idea how well it works, but if you can find it cheap, give it a try.
We stopped ours from clawing our bed by putting a scratcher on the floor right under where they would scratch. That redirect has worked for over a year now.
This is such a helpful guide! It has all my recommendations! One thing to add is that there is special double-sided tape you can use for this purpose which you can buy at pet supply stores (Sticky Pawsis one brand). It comes in wider strips, so it may be more convenient than ordinary double-sided tape. OTOH, it’s more expensive. I’ve also seen scratch deterrent sprays (such as this one from Smarty Kat). However, I have never used them and don’t know anyone who has so I cannot speak for their efficacy.
Also, try a variety of scratchers! They come in cardboard, thin and thick sisal rope, and vertical, slanted, and horizontal positions! Each cat has different preferences. Just be sure that your scratcher is big enough so that your cat can stretch out fully, and, with vertical scratching posts, that they’re sturdy enough to support your cat’s weight.
Finally I want to add that if you have difficulty trimming your cat’s nails at home, you can take them to the vet or a groomer to get it done. In my area this costs $10-15. But as long as you start training your cat to tolerate nail trims early and give them plenty of praise and rewards afterwards, you likely won’t have any problems.
My cat Mjölnir's reactions to me packing up the apartment to move:
-There are all these boxes around, but they are not set up for him to play in. He finds this confusing and frustrating. The huge box that's been his playground for months now has stuff in it.
This morning I was making breakfast and heard Thump! Crinkle, crinkle, crinkle. He'd managed to jump into a box full of newspaper, his favorite. I checked to make sure there weren't any plastic bubble packing materials and then let him be.
-Yesterday I packed up all of his toys and treats (that I could find). I left the box unsealed because I know that as we move furniture I will find all his favorite toys. On top of the box is this round thing like this. He scratched out the cardboard a few weeks ago, and I figured I'd replace it as soon as we've moved. He loves the scratcher, but hasn't played with the ball in years. Last night he climbed on top of his box and batted at the ball. I feel like he was saying, "Do you see what you've reduced me to playing with?" Or maybe "I still like this toy, see? Don't take it away."
-Generally miffed.
I have a cat that was determined to only scratch carpet. Won't touch cardboard or sisal. Finally got him this and sprinkled some silvervine powder on it. He loves it and leaves my carpet alone now. Ignore the listing itself that says you can lean it against stuff, that doesn't work very well. I just leave it on the ground.
😰 Don’t do that! Just get these instead! I purchased them recently because my cats like to tear up a specific corner of the bed. Worked like a charm 👍Cat Scratching Pads (Double Stick)
Bitter apple spray on the cords will prevent chewing (harmless but tastes nasty). Kittens may need more playtime (depending on the kitten) so you may want to add in some play breaks. You could try getting a few toys for when you want her distracted (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IYSAIW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_HP6H09F3GXARX4EQ5ZEH or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP7F8YC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_XEPC5DHCTF7ATJ3E81RC are hits with our cats). The PSSST spray can has worked well for keeping cats off our counters.
Also, you could look into getting a second kitty. It may be more upfront work (introducing them, etc), but then they play together (will still need some playtime from the too).
As much as I love kitties, that one is going to cost you. If the couch is already damaged, they will charge both of you upon check out. I would show your roommate the damage and get a couple hundred now with a written agreement between the two of you that you will use the money to pay the damages and refund your roommate whatever isn't charged.
If the couch isn't too damaged already, you can try the below:
Here you go! If they get under it you may have to use some painters tape to tape it down.
Double sided tape. Only need it for awhile. Their fur will stick and they will stay away forever. Use it in all my furniture and it works.
Just don’t cover air ports
I use sticky tape. Works like a charm

I don't know if it's been posted yet, but I had to purchase this for my cats to quit tearing at the carpet. It's worked wonders so far.
KittySmart Carpet Scratch Stopper... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D00MXZ2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
There is just enough space for my door to slide over it, and it makes the door make a noise where it hadn't before, but you get used to it pretty easy. But like some others have said, tape or tinfoil also work and are way cheaper options.
I had a similar issue with my cat and we bought a plastic no-slip mat to sit on the carpet under the door that essentially eliminated the issue. It comes in different sizes but if it doesn’t fit your door perfectly you can shove a small washcloth or something underneath the corners to fill the gap. This is the one we use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D00MXZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J6SRCRF8YCY99WEZXPQ5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Your cat is beautiful! Best of luck!
In case nobody else has posted something similar yet, you can get small plastic mats to go under the door and prevent scratching. I've used one a few times when having to quarantine a cat in a room and it saved my carpet.
Hey there! I had a similar problem with my cat a few years ago, and I got this on amazon to get him to stop. It protects your carpet and isn’t a trip hazard or anything. That way if your cat scratches he’ll just scratch the mat lol. Here’s a link! https://www.amazon.com/CarPET-Scratch-Stopper-30-Scratching/dp/B00D00MXZ2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=120020013788&gclid=Cj0KCQiA8vSOBhCkARIsAGdp6RS3MZ34-dPgj_QOHbEs9c5bhQLrr8fSgCA0Q_GBtGA2SsoQ4BVPlJYaApZ7EALw_wcB&hvadid=473436278626&hvdev=...
We recently fostered three kittens who did the same thing— scratch incessantly at the door when we kept them in a separate room to quarantine from our resident cats after we first got them.
What finally worked was getting some cat scratch furniture protector sheets, laying them under the door so they cover a bit of both rooms, and then taping completely over them to keep them in place. A bit ugly but it worked— they’d gotten down to the hard floor underneath as well but this finally stopped them.
Not sure what sheets we specifically used but something like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PJ849KT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_652BJGKW0DTPBA2XWESR
This has worked well for me. The other option is to leave the door open so she can come in.
