Anker cables are great, but their 10 foot charger cables are no where near $40-50. I want to know what product /u/DirkNowitzkisWife was referring to.
I have these as well. Great headset, and sound really good with a little EQ tweaking. They are a tiny bit on the small side, and sit a little tight on my (big) head.
I highly recommend getting a breakaway magnetic charging cable like these to go with it. Makes it super easy to charge.
I use these cables with magnetic tips. If you just need a charging solution, you could potentially use one cable and put the magnetic tips in every single device to charge as needed. I am not sure how reliable they are with data transfer, though and would recommend a regular cable for a device that you may need to transfer photos or documents from.
Very nice. I just got a Golf Alltrack SEL in Silk Blue Metallic (automatic) and have been mostly very happy so far. Everything just works as you think it would, the quality is rock solid, and the equipment level is astounding for the price you pay.
I had a rattle from the back that was pretty annoying: It turned out to be the rear cargo cover, so I took it out.
One small piece of advice: If you plan to use Android Auto ~~or Apple CarPlay~~, you'll need a good high quality USB cable. I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07213D35X [update: I forgot iPhones use a proprietary connection; this will only work for Android phones.]
Oh, and if you're in the U.S., I'm not sure if you know, but 2019 is the last model year for the 72 months/60,000 mile warranty. With 2020 models it is dropping to 48 months/50,000 miles (but including two years of free, factory-covered maintenance). I work from home and only drive 8,000 miles a year, so the old warranty is perfect for me.
I bought these after my stock cable stopped working. Very nice, well made cable and fast charging works.
Anker PowerLine USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Galaxy S8, S8+, MacBook, Nintendo Switch, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10, Xiaomi 5 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
That's what I got, but just fair warning it's a very heavy cable. I'd say about twice the thickness of what you are probably accustomed to for charger wires. Overall though can't complain. It does it's job, and reasonably cheap IMO given its good construction
Although if you wanted USB C to C, I can't help you much, sorry. I would assume that most you find in Amazon be good quality, but for me personally, I will go for Anker every time if they have what I'm looking for, even if it's slightly more expensive.
It seems as though they do not have long c to c cables though, unless I am blind
Edit: Here's a comparison between a regular 3ft cable from Anker, and the one I linked earlier
My Oculus Link cable arrived this afternoon. I haven't connected it yet, but I thought I'd post some photos and information that compares it to the previously-recommended Anker Powerline USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft).
The Link cable measures 201.5 inches (16.8 feet) from end to end and weighs 220g. That's ~~.92g~~ 1.09g per inch.
The Anker cable measures 121.5 inches (10.1 feet) from end to end and weighs 154g. That's ~~.79g~~ 1.27g per inch.
As you can see in one of the photos, the Link cable is slightly thinner than the Anker cable, and you can tell when you hold both in your hands.
While the Link cable is heavier (per inch), it feels the same as the Anker when you hold both cables. I had my wife do the same test, and she agrees. They might as well be identical.
The Link cable is definitely more flexible than the Anker cable. Whether it's the width that makes the difference or the material itself, it's easy to imagine the Link cable being a better HMD-connected experience.
This means that as long as you are using a type-c to type-c charger or a type-a to type-c charger that uses a cable that 100% sure has the 56k ohm resistor then most probably you are fine with any kind of dock.
Of course do not take this as a promise from my side and use these docks at your own risk, but as far as we know this is the actual issue behind the bricked Switches (and many bricked USB-C laptops).
Amazon points out if a cable has the necessary resistor, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerLine-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527282413&sr=8-3&keywords=56k+ohm+resistor+usb+c
Don't use that
I'd say go with the OEM (Samsung ones) or Anker fast charge ones
USB C Charger, Anker PowerLine USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Z-wJBb4B3SRQ3
Btw I don't think Samsung fucked us
I'm glad we have type C it's Innovation it's the future
Usb c is better in every way except cost for now
Anker PowerLine 10' USB C to Standard USB Fast Charging cable https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ys1fFb2P379CN Lifetime Warranty
Anker PowerLine 10' Lightning to standard USB MFi certified cable https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B013JNUHR0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4q1fFbM80SFHF 18 month warranty
Thank me later.
It depends on the make/model of your phone and what it considers "fast" charging and what specific cable you are using, whether it's USB-A<>USB-C or USB-C<>USB-C, (and the charger of course, it doesn't matter what cable you use if you are using a shitty no-name USB wall-wart that will only deliver 1W)
These are the ones I always buy for "normal" USB-A, and they specifically state that the won't fast charge certain devices (Nexus 5X for instance), but for USB-C<>USB-C I get these which will fast-charge phones and laptops (assuming the charger can put out enough juice).
This is because USB-A <> USB-C is limited to 15W, while a USB-C to USB-C can deliver up to 60W.
I have a 2021 Forester and a Pixel 3A but I was having a similar issue with Android Auto. Apparently it works better plugged in then through Bluetooth and you need to use a data transfer cable (not one for just charging). I recently purchased this one and it's been working well so far: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07213D35X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_90TX4WGTK90CR71ESZYT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hey there! We recommend the official Oculus Link Cable for the optimal experience using Oculus Link, but it's not required. For a more affordable third-party cable, we have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find one on Amazon (US). Thanks!
From what I have heard and personally experienced, Anker cables are great and I've never had an issue with them.
(Canadian amazon links lol sry if you are American / any other country)
Just get an Anker USB A to C cable from Amazon. You can't pick a wrong one as long as you stick with Anker.
This two pack will do you just fine:
Anker [2-Pack 6ft] Premium Double-Braided Nylon USB-C to USB-A 2.0 Cable, for Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+/S8/S8+/Note 8, LG V20/G5/G6, and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DC5PPFV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_N2RGBbBRBWQSP
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC I have this one, works great. Also isn't $80.
It's the cable. The high end Anker cables are the only ones that fix it for most people. Look for Anker Powerline cables.
You’d need something like this. Not sure if you need data transfer or just charging. Some cables don’t allow for data transfer, I don’t quite remember if this one did….just checked, it’s rated for 480mb/s
I have a 2021 Kia Seltos with the same exact head unit and a S21 Ultra. I had similar problems at first. Tried bunch of cables too. It only worked after I switched to a "good" cable. Ever since, I didn't had any crashes. Before that cable, it was crashing every few minutes and was very slow. So, maybe try this cable if you have Amazon Prime and can return the cable if it doesn't work for you.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07213D35X?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
There's an anker cable they recommend by name on their site. I got it on Amazon and it works great.
But honestly the small upgrade in visual fidelity isn't worth being tethered.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Sometimes it's the cable length that matters. Long cables tend to not work for some reasons, so it's better to stick with shorter cables. I use this cable and have no issues with it. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Certified-Samsung-MacBook/dp/B07213D35X/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-rsf-lq2a1_0?cv_ct_cx=anker+powerline&dchild=1&keywords=anker+powerline&pd_rd_i=B07213D35X&pd_rd_r=fec460a1-7d38-4cff-9fee-68f3a894...
Also perhaps it could be an issue related with your phone port?
Oculus Link allows you to connect your Quest to your PC via any USB port. You don't need a USB-C or HDMI or DisplayPort or anything like that. Just buy a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable and that's literally all you need. Oculus itself recommends this third-party cable but just about any cable is an option. I've used a junk cable with a micro-USB to USB-C adapter and even that works.
Or just play through Virtual Desktop. You literally don't even need to be physically connected to your computer to play PCVR through your Quest. It sounds like you haven't done a lot of research if this information was unknown to you.
The flaws are it's on a cable and that can trip people up. That's not a metaphor: It can actually trip you. That's really about it.
If your wireless virtual desktop solution is set up in a perfect scenario, you'll have less latency than the Cable Route. But A) The Cable Route doesn't have much latency to begin with so outside of maybe some thing like Beat Saber it truly doesn't matter, and B) If you live in something like an apartment building or a dense neighbourhood, the perfect scenario just ain't happening.
You want the easiest route?
Grab your Quest 2. Grab this cable or something equivalent in the appropriate length, and install the Oculus program on your computer. Boot up the program, plug in the cable, and you're literally done.
Hey there!
Oculus Link does not require the Official Oculus Link cable - but Oculus Link does require a high-quality USB cable capable of supporting data and power.
For the best experience, we recommend USB 3.0 or greater. Internally, we've had success with the Anker cable, seen here (via Amazon.com).
Thank you!
USB micro sucks ass, period. If you can RMA it, do so and when you get it back get a magnetic USB cable and insert the tip into the crafty for the last time ever. You’ll lose the orange plastic thingy, but you’ll never have to worry about that shitty port ever failing again.
I've used a cable like this in order to use a keyboard while charging at the same time and it worked but I'm not sure if it was truly simultaneous or it switched between power and data two every couple miliseconds, either way it was unnoticeable from human perspective
Yeap, so far you are correct. I swapped the old Anker USB cable to a new one with better specs and so far so good. Less wiggle on the cable connected to the car port. Thank you for your suggestions! I'll check out AAWireless next time. For reference, here's the cable I got, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6F3WHG/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'd recommend getting a magnetic cable, they're pricey but if you want to keep longevity in your charging port, its the best bet.
Edit: something like this would do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Ant-i-Product-Compatible-Micro-USB/dp/B07GWLF4GR/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=magnetic+usb+c+charging+cable&qid=1628636231&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011&rnid=1248877011&s=electronics&spref...
Dunno why you're getting downvoted bud, some people can be weirdly toxic here. Any USB 3.0 type C cable will do, even if it's USB A to USB C. Here's an Anker one for you to look at, you'll want the 10Ft one.
You do have to be careful buying cables. Nintendo says that if you use a USB-C cable with a 56K OHM resistor that it would not harm the switch.
One on my wishlist on amazon is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E9W8KYC/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ&psc=1
Their own cable has the 56K resistor, so if you purchase a cable that specifically states the 56K, then you should be good!
I have the Oculus-suggested Anker Powerline cable (10ft) plus a CableCreation Active USB extension cable (16.4ft). Both cables are fairly thick compared to what you'd get with the official USB-C cable, but I get an extra 10ft and a lot of extra cash in my pocket. You could obviously just go for the Anker cable by itself if you didn't need all the extra length... either way, you can't go wrong for the price.
This works perfectly: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't even use mine anymore though because Virtual Desktop works so well (haven't tried Airlink yet)
I had to order different cables because the stock ones were too short for me. Here are the ones I ordered. I've been using this brand for years.
I have this android auto issue all the time. It happened with my p2 and it happens with my 5 as well. The only solution was to buy the highest quality, highest link speed cable I could get ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07213D35X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_7GTY14WGNED9Q5G9HQC3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1). I have had no dropouts with this one.
Hey there! While we do recommend the Oculus Link Cable for the optimal experience with Oculus Link, it is not required. Results can vary with third-party cables, but we have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. You can go here to find one on Amazon (US). Thanks!
The LG v20 uses USB C connection to charge your old phone most likely used micro USB connection. You mentioned that you're not looking for a cigarette adapter charger. So most likely what you're looking for is a USB A to type C cable which can be found here https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07DC5PPFV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_u-HbGb1V5AFFZ
Np, here the link for the cable that I use, it works really well. Might want to get a bigger size though, I recommend 10 feet.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (6ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Hqk.FbTRDACHT
Absolutely. Get a USB C cable that has a length that works for your setup and plug it into your controller and Xbox. Bam! Wired controller.
edit: I went with these and they have worked great so far.
I personally use VD 95% of the time, but every once in a while you may come across games that just don't have compatibility with VD and now with the v23 Link update the image quality can beat out VD if you have a beefy graphics card. For seated or standing games with no roomscale I think the wire tradeoff isn't the end of the world, like with Moss or Hellblade. But I also don't think the $90 official cable is worth that price if it isn't your primary source, I just use the $12 Anker cable for my purposes and it works fine.
Literally any USB-C <-> USB-A 3.0 Cable will work. You might even have one around your house already that will do the trick.
Here is the one I use It's $20 and works fine for my Quest 2, but Facebook says on their own website it should work for the Quest 1 as well.
I use my tablet often as a media device on my TV and it works well. I bought one of these otg cables so I can use an Xbox 360 adapter and charge at the same time. Console mode is really useful because it turns off the tablet screen and just displays on the TV. I use Netflix, Youtube, Google Music and they all work well, along with games.
Unfortunately, Amazon Prime video is not directly supported on Android devices and will only display in SD, not HD :/
Not 100% sure what your situation is. You can use the cable that came with your phone or you can buy a new USB type C cable. I'd recommend getting a new one.
A cable doesn't come with this charger. I'm not really aware of many chargers (either car or AC) that do come with cables, but I wouldn't use them anyway (they're often garbage). If you need a recommendation, I've been using these pretty much exclusively for a little over a year: Amazon Link
The V20 supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 standard, so any charger that meets that will charge your phone as fast as possible.
I am not sure how Amazon UK selection compares with Amazon US, but a quick search for "Quick Charge 3.0 charger" brings up several good options. The Aukey and Anker brands are reliable and priced fairly.
As for cables, Anker Powerline and Powerline+ cables are reviewed well, and have served me well.
Awesome, thanks for the 411!
Edit: any others from say Amazon or Best Buy? I'm not required to get one at Target. Perhaps this one?
The legit Anker red ones are good, I just prefer the braided ones. They seem to be a little more durable. This is the one I found in my Amazon order history:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M5GMZ6X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have a 10' USB-A to micro-USB in my car to power my Scosche QI MagicMount & I have a 3' & 2 6' of USB-A to USB-C that I bought (mostly) for my GoPro.
Some of those cheap cords that come with stuff just can't carry enough current to use some devices while they charge. For example I have a bluetooth speaker that gets real quiet after about 30 minutes of battery use, so I plug it in. The PowerCore has a strong enough output but cheap cords don't deliver enough power to keep it going.
Another big thing is you should never use a longer cord when a short one will do. As in don't buy a 10' cord & try to use it for everything, when a 3' or 6' would work just fine. The longer the cord, the more loss you get & the losses stack.
I've used one of these with my S10 and a Honda CR-V (2018 and now 2020) and I've never had an issue. Also double check that you aren't also connecting via bluetooth, I could see that causing issues.
With my S7 I used a "high speed" USB 2.0 cable in the 2018 CR-V and similarly never had an issue.
This is a good one, it is even the one that Oculus recommends https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/
It's $18 for a 10 foot cable
People have used this to extend the above cable even further than 10 feet, need an active extender, which is what this extender cable has on it, to prevent any kind of loss.
https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Extension-Extender-Booster-Compatible/dp/B0179MXKU8/
It's $19.
The oculus link cable is 15 feet, uses fiber optics, is much lighter than other brands of USB cables, it made from higher quality materials to maximize it's throughput.
Fine...
The official Oculus link cable is great but its also super overpriced. I have been using this Anker cable for months...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_rTvbEbV7CTW8S
But you will also need one of these...
Works flawlessly.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor/dp/B01E9W8KYC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=89588682619&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpNr4BRDYARIsAADIx9wEbiDMilYdbAK0opahe0wrCda-egl6w64l5LjmvdtiYQbonr_UVNYaAqxeEALw_wcB&hvadid=4111244... I use this one daily, and no cable will break anything.
Yep, mine do! I think they were this bundle from Amazon
This happened to me using the cable that came with it. I bought one off amazon and all worked well.

Oculus recommended cable on Amazon for same price.
Oculus links for North America | Canada | UK | Japan | Australia | Germany
Was the cable rated at 5Gbps or better? If not you will likely want to buy one off of Amazon that specifically list the specs. There are many variations on USB and just because it has a C connector does not mean it is the right spec. Below is the one Oculus recommends if you do not go with their branded cable.
Do you have access to Amazon Prime? Either your own or through a friend. This Anker cable is good. Lifetime warranty, so if it ever has a problem then you can get a new one at no cost.
You don't need a USB 3.0 cable to root, a USB 2.0 A-to-C cable will do the job just fine. However, you'll have to flash the factory image every month if you want security updates. I recommend a USB 3.0 cable for that because it's normally >1.5GB. March's was 1.73GB. A USB 2.0 cable will work just fine, it'll just take a while.
Google "xda Pixel 3 XL root guide" and you'll find a good tutorial. I recommend against using any other site for instructions. To install monthly security updates, follow the first paragraph of my post here. Make sure you always delete -w
from the flash-all.bat
. You probably never need to wipe your phone, but if you did then you can just leave it in.
Just get a usb a to usb C cable instead, and avoid the adapter all together. The anker powerline is a good option (get the 6ft version if you're interested, it's only $1 more): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A6F3WHG/ref=twister_B07BS292KR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The problem is your adapter, the fact that is 'there' between the PS3 and your monitor is killing the signal because that's what HDCP does - it doesn't allow the HDMI signal to pass through something else in between the PS3 and the monitor / TV. Unfortunately, HDCP is always turned on in PS3s, even when you are not watching copy-protected content so there isn't much you can do about it. I'm not sure if there are adapters that can get around this, but you can buy an HDMI to DVI cable like these and it should work.
I've noticed the BT on my 2020 Forester is a bit finicky as well. I don't know if this is the issue you're experiencing but I can't plug my phone in to the head unit until the BT connects to the vehicle. If I plug it in beforehand the BT does not want to connect. As for the wires, I've recently switched to this Anker cable and it's worked pretty well.
I'm running an S21 FE, with the 8 inch head unit on the premier trim if that helps.
There is no real TLDR as it's based on your needs, but this cable worked great for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/
Overall you will have a smoother and clearer experience with the cable, but I mostly do sitting PCVR games though.. If you value moving around freely then both Air Link and VD are great solutions, but need a great wireless network and a network cable plugged into the PC directly (that part is necessary and not optional)
You can also mess with various settings for clarity of the image in the Oculus Debug tool if you look it up.
I had disconnects like that a long time ago, I've had some luck with this cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_gTYgwVmftjdMA also try different usb ports. Update all drivers for PC
Yes here you go:
Anker Powerline USB-C to USB 3.0 Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, iPad Pro 2018, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_gTYgwVmftjdMA
It doesn't come with a cable to connect it to your PC - but doing it through airlink is better.
I use this cable to connect it to my PC (Had to add custom songs to beat saber!) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9W8KYC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
The Quest 2 comes with:
Quest 2 (USB c-USB c & a wall plug)
Charger
Facial Interface (A must - the default cushion stuff itches like hell)
Two controllers
I think I am forgetting something?
not all cables are the same, i ordered this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6F3WHG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it is way better than before. I do still get drops but it's far less than before.
It's USB-C to USB-A, not C to C, but I use This exact cable and get the same results. 2 to 2.5 Standalone, 6 to 8 wired Link.
This cable was advertised as a tested alternative on the Quest 2 website itself at one point.
Thanks a lot for the help I'm guessing I can send links in this subreddit? This supports 3.0 and 3ft/6ft I'm guessing this one should work?
I got this cable for my car because it was recommended for trouble free Android Auto use. It was $15 but it has been trouble free - it always connects, never drops a signal and charges. It works with my P7P. The AA plug in my CRV is USB A so it isn't PD but it still works, at least with this cable.
I'm talking about really really easy. Like a very slight bend up or down would break the connection. The connection is oblong though so it's harder to break the connection side to side. This is one particular cable like that. The others I have are round and hold on better.
https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Ant-i-Product-Compatible-Micro-USB/dp/B07GWLF4GR
Also, for the cable, the CF113-007-D from Igus is $3.05/ft. That's a 22ga 4 conductor cable that is designed for this type of application. It should work pretty well with that mod. Mine gets delivered in 2 days.

Also to note, when it comes to flashing the EBB, I had issues with a few of the cables that I had. If you don't already have a USB-C cable, or if you have issues getting it to be seen by your PC in DFU mode, This Cable worked perfectly for me.
While I haven't used my Quest 2 for Warthunder, I can answer some of these. Keyboard and mouse, yes. Difficult to set up, no not really and it would be worth it if you like the idea of being able to actually look around instead of holding C every time. Graphics are going to be lacking, mainly because of the fresnel lenses that are used in the headset creating "God Rings" and partially blurring the pixels. Connecting to the PC is uh... Not fun. You'll need a link cable that can run from $20-$80, and then an app on Steam called "Virtual Desktop," and that makes it not matter if you use the Steam client or Gaijin's because it streams your entire desktop to the headset. Here's the cable I got, it's nice because the velcro strip it comes with is just the right size to hold the cable to the headstrap so it doesn't come unplugged. If you encounter sound issues, unplug the headset and plug it back in, then reconnect to Virtual Desktop. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o01\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
the official one is gud but it may be a bit expensive for what it is, so you could try one like this amazon tho i dont know how gud it is cuz i got the official one
Hello there, thats a good question!
It is possible to use Link with a third party USB-C cable, but cables can vary in terms of speed and performance. So, if you choose to use a third party cable, make sure it has a transfer speed of at least 5 Gbps.
Another important factor of the cable is the length. To not get too limited in movement, we recommend a cable of at least 10ft.
We have tested the Anker cable internally with good results. Here you can find the cable in question
Have fun exploring VR ☺️
I’m not OP of that thread but those appear to be magnetic adapters. Funnily enough, they look very much like these that I have.
Digital Ant Gen-X 3 in 1 Nylon... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWLF4GR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Some people will tell you not to use magnetic adapters for USB because it’s dangerous, and I’m not knowledgeable enough on the topic to argue, but I have personally not had any issues. It makes flashing both sides of my Corne so much easier, I’ll have them on all my keyboards from now on.
Its perfectly safe for low power devices like a controller. Its definitely less safe for higher powered devices like phones or VR headsets.
I use a pair of digital ant cables for my Index controllers.
I would try a cable first before buying a new router... this 2 for (US) $15 cable works fine for me.. Cables over 6 feet need to be higher quality than 6 foot or less cables. If you can deal with a six foot cable I am sure that you can find one that works well.. but perhaps under VERY demanding bit rates it still might hiccup.
Airlink (aka cable free wireless) is nice but it does seem that you need a fast PC connected to a router on Ethernet, and the Oculus on 5g WiFi to the router. Airlink is considered experimental and YMMV!
USB cables are kinda hit and miss.. and some only charge (don't allow data). I got this one and even though it says charging cable, it seems to work OK With O-Link but IDK how much data is passing or how much it is capable of. It might crap out with some games. If you can keep the USB cable to six feet or shorter your odds of it working are increased.
As to WiFi.. it depends on how far, how much power the WiFi radio is set to, and other factors.. if you find it not working well at some distance just move closer to the router and see if that helps. If it does then there are some ways to improve coverage and data throughput, such as increasing power on the WiFi (not all routers), moving the router, adjusting QOS settings in the router, etc.
That's not necessarily 100% true, the cable does play a good bit in the proper functioning of Android Auto. I've had some cables with random disconnects that go away completely by changing cables. I've had some different spec USB C cables work but not charge the phone properly. There ARE factors that depend on the cable, and if you dig into USB C spec, you will see there are a fucking million different types.
To that end, I found this Anker cable that seems to work 100% perfectly with Android Auto: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07213D35X
Just look at the reviews yourself and you will see this has alleviated a lot of people's frustrations with this.
Google should either make or recommend their own cable so that this isn't an issue. But another part of the issue is the car manufacturer's software playing nice.
I went through so many cables, many that were intermittent out of the box until I read that Android auto requires the higher transfer rate spec cables. I bought an Android auto recommended cable and it's been working for a couple of months now without a single drop. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Pull-up-Resistor-Samsung/dp/B01A6F3WHG
Looks like it was the cable all along.
This came today and I was able to connect.

Some other side notes that I am not sure if they helped or not:
My phone was also in dev mode with default usb set to transferring files.
I have a beta version of Android Auto 7.8 installed.
I uninstalled Smart Switch.
Something like this. You plug the little USB part in the phone and leave it there, so you avoid all the wear and tear of plugging a cable every time.
Here's the 14.99 2 pack type c https://www.amazon.com/Anker-2-Pack-Premium-Charging-Samsung/dp/B07DC5PPFV/ref=sr_1_4?crid=13746XYH64WDD&keywords=anker%2Bcharging%2Bcable&qid=1651824634&sprefix=anker%2Bcharging%2Bcables%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-4&th=1
Right now the the Lightning ones of the same pack is 19.99, but like I said the deals show up periodically. My gf has slammed hers in her car door and I'm fairly certain dragged it down the highway as it lost some of it's braided material. Still works fine. More on that, they still have a rubber coating under the braided.
I had the exact issue you mentioned and replaced my cable with a high data transfer cable and never had a problem again
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (3ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 (Black) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01A6F3WHG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_M0SA59PFQR304TC1ATP1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Idk if you can trust, but that's simply too much for a cable. I use a standard usb-c 3.0 cable from amazon with no issues.

I think it has an optical cable internally with conversion electronics at each end. You won't necessarily get faster data rates, but the latency is a lot lower. I have this cable and get a 3gb connection and only 2gb on the official one.
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you're uncertain, this is the one I use. Not had any issues
Anker USB C Cable, Powerline USB 3.0 to USB C Charger Cable (10ft) with 56k Ohm Pull-up Resistor for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, Oculus Quest, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZIPYPY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_gl_i_RSP3EW7ZRYPCWK033ZEF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Don't buy the overpriced link cable you can get an equal or greater quality one on amazon for 1/3 the price. I use this. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Also not the best timing to buy a Quest 2 considering a new headset is reportedly coming out in a few months.
You need a cable capable of USB 3.0 or higher speeds. Quest 2 can use USB 2 at reduced quality, but I believe the Quest 1 still requires a high speed cable.
The charging cable included is only rated at USB 2.0, as are most USB-C charging cables.
The cheapest solutions are to either buy an Anker cable, or to purchase and use Virtual Desktop.
FYI: AirLink requires a 5GHz Wifi Network and is an experimental feature — You must enable it in both Quest settings and the Oculus desktop app settings, and it'll disable itself on the desktop every 24 hours or so (last I checked).
Yeah, the new American Airlines planes have both and a cellphone holder on the seat in front of you. :-)
For cable (15W, 3A/5V) see below. Just remember, it is not Power Delivery thus will achieve slower charge.

Usb-B? I am assuming you meant USB-C probably. https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Premium-Double-Braided-Samsung-Devices/dp/B07DC5PPFV So something like this is fine? Also does the "fast sync" affect the response of my controller (E.g data transfer up to 480 Mbps)? Thanks!
I use the Anker cable that oculus actually recommended before they brought out their own and it's great.
If your phone disconnects because you moved the cable, then you need a better cable. Look for something that is USB-IF certified.
something like this should fix it.

Here's the one I got
Anker Powerline II USB-C to USB 3.1 Gen2 Cable (3ft), USB-IF Certified for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, S10, iPad Pro 2018, MacBook, Sony XZ, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10, Xiaomi 5 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07213D35X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_8SY9M37XZ8EHTBFSX4BA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Also ich bin super zufrieden mit diesem Ladekabel von Anker, ist 1,80 m lang und macht einen stabilen Eindruck, unterstützt Quickcharge soweit ich weiß. Hoffe ich konnte helfen

The cable I bought for those interested:
Digital Ant Gen-X 3 in 1 Nylon Braided Magnetic Charging Cable, Support 3.0A Fast Charging & Data Transfer, Compatible with Micro USB, USB-C/Type-C Devices (3 Cables+9 Tips, 5-Feet Red) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWLF4GR/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_WM8NJ5Y7YJNW0TFW8Q84?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have used these with my Razer Phone 2 for about 2 years with no major issues. It does file transfer, quick charge, and android auto.
It comes with 3 of each connector (9 total): micro usb, usb c, lightning. I keep one in my car for android auto, one plugged into my computer for charging random things like my headset and xbox controller, and then one I keep with a portable battery pack.
Any reputable USB-C charger will work. The phone will determines how much draw it an handle. The wire label is an indicator of "Up to how much" draw it can do.
However, not all USB-C chargers will charge fast. Many use USB 2 wires with a USB-C connector on the end.
You'll want to get a USB-C with USB 3.1 (or better) written on the packaging.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Certified-Samsung-MacBook/dp/B07213D35X
You'll also want to get a reputable USB A to Wall Adapter -- again, anything that matches what the wire says will work. If its lower rated, then it will run at the slower speeds.
Get a third party one like this:
All it has to be to work with link is usb 3.0 or 3.1 (works with usb 2.0 too)
you gotta have a fast usb cable. Something like this one Its a 5 gb/s cable. its gotta be plugged into USB 3.0 for it to reach that speed. also minimum for vr is a gtx 1050. a 1650 ti is almost the same i have it and it works.
