This is the one I got: someone shared theirs but this was under $10 (not eligible for Amazon discount) and it came quickly with Prime. It also has a pocket where I put my work ID. Universal Phone Holder

I have this on the inside of my phone case and then I attach my lanyard to the loop at the end poking out.
Then the type of lanyard I have has a buckle I can just unbuckle and rebuckle my phone back on so it makes it easy to have it on when I need it and have it off when I want it on the mount for GPS.
I don’t but I just bought this thing -
Gear Beast Cell Phone Lanyard - Universal Neck Phone Holder w/ Card Pocket and Silicone Neck Strap - Compatible with Most Smartphones, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KYCQDUO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NMA1TGGW86Q33QMG6D55
We bought one of these and they are perfect for festivals. It's basically a rubber holder for your phone that gives you a lanyard loop at the top so you can attach a lanyard to it and loop the other end around a belt loop.
Yeah it's for a lanyard or similar.
I use it for this finger lanyard.

Your phone will not fall and you don't need to hold it too tight.
phone leash - get something like this, and attach the end of the lanyard to yourself - either a crossbody bag or a beltloop.
I got my phone stolen during CID at Beyond Wonderland in a very similar fashion to what you described. It absolutely sucks so I feel for you right now.
I bought this leash on Amazon afterwards and use it at every show I go to now. It gives me some peace of mind having it tethered to me and I haven’t had to worry about it getting stolen since. Phone Leash
OUTXE Phone Lanyard Tether with 4... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JPG7229?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share - used at Life is Beautiful, Float Fest, and ACL this year. LIB & ACL this year and it’s saved me. Also, if you’re a woman, I highly suggest leggings with side pockets and keeping your phone there but chained to you Fanny or camel back. You’re definitely going to feel someone reach into skin tight leggings if they try something.
Pro tip for everyone who attends festivals: get a tether tab [approx $6 for a bunch] and a retractable steel key holder[approx $6 for 2] and attach the keychain to a zipper on your person or to your belt. Voila, your phone is now theft proof and drop proof. I had my phone ganked once and adopted this system and now I never have to worry again.
Phone tethers!! I can’t believe that more people don’t know about them. I have this one that I use for festivals with a different phone case than my daily use one; you can clip it to a belt, bag zipper, or make it into a bracelet/necklace if you aren’t wearing anything it can be clipped to. You can also switch out the clips it comes with and use carabiner clips for even more safety.
If someone tries to swipe your phone, they’re most likely not going to expect it to be tied to your body. When they’re surprised by the unexpected security they’ll probably drop it, or you can wrestle the phone back.

THESE ARE ANTI-THEFT AND COME IN PACKS OF 2. HOOK TO YOUR HYDRATION PACK OR FANNY PACK!! THEY SAVED MY LIFE
My mom uses a lanyard thing - sorta like this.
But also your phone doesn't have to be on you on you at all times, just near you.
Leaving it in your bag or purse is fine as long as you can hear the alarms.
Or a lanyard. Universal Phone Lanyard Holder and Ring Grip, Silicone Cell Phone Lanyard Neck Strap and Phone Ring Holder Stand Compatible with Most Smartphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082TQ42Y8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gl_i_JRNDWXJDK1RMXYAT26QW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Buy one of these and attach it to your bag. I keep mine either in my bag or in my boob; it has literally changed me entire festival experience. I’d rather do this than stand in line for another 45 minutes just to get to my car. And never forget the parking lot wait delay either. I would grumpy as hell if I had another obstacle to face after partying allllll night.

I never felt worried about losing my phone or ID because they was going wherever I went.
I use these tabs, and then i also use a waterproof case on my phone. Then i have a tether/coiled cord to my pfd and this works great for me.

Dreamstate is my favorite event at NOS. If you are smart, you won't get pickpocketed. They pick easy targets. Get a slim running belt and keep it infront of you with your phone and ID. Clip a caribeaner over the zippers if it's a double one.
There are elastic pull clips that you can stick to your phone too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JPG7229/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_16NWV1ENSMD3J2WEBZ7V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Don't get too fucked up if you are alone or a small group. Keep your eyes out. The theives are super obvious and it's the same crew every time. They wear dark hoodies and slide through the crowd, they always look miserable/grumpy. Older lady is always with them. They'll stick out really obviously in the Dreamstate crowd
I was worried about parking my car in the insomniac lot, but parked and left it until super late and it was fine. I didn't notice any broken glass in the lot. It seemed well patrolled. Shuttles back to the parking lots took forever for Beyond Wonderland though which sucked.
Yes. You should be. I had my phone stolen out of my Fanny pack at forbidden kingdom. Mine must’ve slid to the back while I was dancing and They literally opened the zipper without me noticing and took my phone. Bastards.
If you wanna be safe get one of these and attach your phone to you somehow. It’s saved me
Oh, in the past I've had phone cases that have had a lanyard attachment but now I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XZ8WW28/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_Q581QH238EPE0FEYZFP4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Its tail piece pops out in the charging area.
Might be too late for tomorrow, but I got a simple and effective patch that just slips inside my existing phone case. It has a loop that sticks out through the charger port, and a little circular clip. I don't use the lanyard it came with, I don't trust it, but instead use a long 2 mm cord tied in a loop with a double fisherman knot so I can vary the length. I hook it with a carabiner to the bungee and then just let it sit in the mesh bag with all my other crap. My phone is waterproof so if I drop it in the water it's no big deal, and it's not going anywhere.
Something like this one:
Here's one more option. Amazon has a variety of cell phone lanyards. Instead of locating the phone after you've misplaced it, this might help to prevent losing it in the first place. Good luck.
