If you own your phone now, and are currently happy with your AT&T coverage, you could switch to Cricket and save a ton of money, as well. Cricket uses AT&Ts network and is super cheap with generous data allotments, but still very reliable. I've been using it for a bit over two years with no issues.
And there's no contract, so you can get a SIM from Amazon for a few bucks and try it out before you decide to port your AT&T number.
She's going to make friends so she's going to want a local number. That's not to say that there aren't options like WhatsApp, but it'll make life easier for whatever official things she may need to do with a local number.
For yourself, I've picked up sim cards from Amazon for European travel. Stupid cheap for gigs of data from 3UK, with international roaming for pretty much all of Europe. I'll go find the link and edit my post.
So I was able to get a 20% off code and signed up through the website and have a tracking code. I have a few questions on how to properly sign up for T-Mobile:
When I go on the promotion status site to check it, it says Tampa, FL for the location, but I'm in Dallas, TX. Will this be okay? It did take my phone number when I signed up and my email, and I printed out the confirmation page with tracking ID. Also, how long will it take for me to see the 20% discount for life on my bill?
I'm switching over from Verizon and have an iPhone 6s Plus, and will be porting my number over. I want to go about this properly and need a SIM card. Can I purchase this Amazon prepaid SIM card and activate it on the T-Mobile One Postpaid account with my 20% off discount?: https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 If not, where can I purchase a correct SIM card?
How do I activate the SIM card once I get it and transfer my number? Do I need to call in or can it be done online?
Can I also sign up for the "17SWITCHER" $150 gift card promo and stack the coupon? If so, do I just go on the T-Mobile Promotions site and enter that before or after I sign up? How long does it take to receive the card via mail?
Thank you in advance!
Id say ATT and Verizon networks are pretty on par. Ive been to places where ATT has no service but Verizon does, and Ive also been to places where Verizon has no service but ATT does (I live in Southern California).
Now, that being said, you could be in one of those areas where Verizon works well but ATT doesnt. Wont know without testing it out.
I would recommend signing up for a $30 2GB plan (when you use up 2GB you just get slowed down, you still can use it). 2GB should be plenty for testing.
Pop out your Verizon sim, and pop in Cricket sim. Use it for the month as you would normally use your phone, if you are satisfied move over all lines. If not then all it takes is for you to pop the old Verizon sim back in and you are back to how it was before you did anything.
Currently you can get Cricket sim from Amazon for $5, or BestBuy for $10.
yes this would cost you $35-$40 for the month. But if its a success then you will be saving a lot more than that per month.
PS - I dont know anything about Red Pocket Mobile, but I would test it out with actual Cricket since that is what you are considering changing over to.
Also if you do sign up, visit stickied thread and use one of the promo links, it will give you $25 after 60 days and the person who's link you used $25 as well. That will cancel out the cost of sim cards for you ($5 a piece from Amazon).
https://www.amazon.com/Cricket-BYOD-Wireless-SIM-Card/dp/B0725R9NH1
Here's the SIM Starter Kit you need on Amazon
Just follow the kit's instructions and get select the right plan. It's only there for new activations. The only issue you might have is porting out your number if you want to keep it. You can port it to Google Voice and back to the new account. That's probably the best and cheapest option.
You can also get one from amazon for $9.99 instead of the $25 if that doesn’t end up working, probably can find some way cheaper on eBay, just make sure they are not expired.
Yes, you can use the SIM cards from Cricket branded phones that you get from the Cricket store (both online and in store) to put them in your own phones. Another option is buying a SIM card from Amazon for $2.99.
https://www.amazon.com/Cricket-Wireless-SIM-Card-Kit/dp/B0136NJTLS
Yes, but you might have to call 611 to do it as the option is removed from the website most of the time.
The same as BestBuy is also available on Amazon w/prime shipping: https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/
SIM cards aren't used to store info for smartphones. You most likely have no info on it.
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/
or go to a T-Mobile store and get one for $20
You can also try cutting your SIM to fit the Nano size, but it isn't entirely safe to do.
Here's a link to the sim on Amazon. Make sure when you order you're ordering from Amazon themselves not a 3rd party seller. I just activated one of these a few days ago and it worked fine.
I think that Mint's roaming rates are a bit expensive. You're better off getting a prepaid sim from a local carrier there. Since the EU has no roaming charges between their countries, you can get a prepaid sim from any carrier in the EU and it will work in all the EU countries. One of the best and easiest to get while still in the US is Orange's (France's largest mobile carrier) Europe Holiday sim. Different sellers sell them on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RXYH2NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_mSnCFbE3JHAXQ . It's full speed.
When I was traveling in Europe with it, I was forced to be on Orange while in France. That was fine since they are the largest there. In Germany and Switzerland, I actually was able to go into mobile networks settings on my phone and select any of those countries carriers. So, if one carrier wasn't great, I could just switch in the settings. I pretty much kept it to the largest carrier in those countries though, Telekom and Swisscom.
With the Orange holiday sim, it's 20GB for around $50. If you look up Mint's rates for somewhere in Eastern Europe like Poland, it's $0.20 per MB. So for 20GB that would be $4,096. Even for a more reasonable 1GB, the price with Mint would be $204.
Make sure that your phone is unlocked.
If I were you I'd get the Orange sim or some other local one there. However carry your mint sim with you. That way you can use the mint sim on wifi for free calls and txts with your own US number. Just make sure that when you do that you turn on airplane mode and only leave wifi on and optionally bluetooth on. That way your phone will not roam with the mint sim.
They sell a triple SIM kit.
You can get it on Amazon too.
Tracfone Keep Your Own Phone 3-in-1 Prepaid SIM Kit, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728N8PT9/
Buy the 3 in 1 kit from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0725R9NH1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_RNMTQJ4YQW69QMDSPKG9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
When you get it call or chat with CS and they can switch you to the new sim card.
I sent my friend a prepaid one off Amazon because T-Mobile shipped his sim using the slowest shipping choice ever. It cost more than eBay but I needed it asap and prime was next day. I did a Sim swap on the website with no issues on my postpaid account.
T-Mobile Prepaid Complete SIM Starter Kit https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3B4Z5F5BHF15T0M9AA3H?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
old smartphone...or for that matter a cheap newish one...
https://www.amazon.com/Tracfone-Motorola-Prepaid-Smartphone-Locked/dp/B07Y5TTS2Q
You can buy the sim card on Amazon for $4.99, instead of the standard $9.99 on Cricket's website. Save an extra $5!
The port out doesn't finalize until you activate the SIM, but you can also avoid the worry by buying sim card kits through Amazon for cheaper (link below) then activate on cricket website once you have sim cards in hand.
Cricket Wireless Complete Starter Pack: Nano SIM Card with Standard & Micro Adapters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0136NJTLS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MSMIxb67RXSVQ
Sometimes they give them away. Mine was free. You can get them pretty cheap on amazon now too https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470539092&sr=8-1&keywords=T+mobile+sim
You already have an activate account, number, and the $30 plan. You just need to perform a SIM swap. You can go to a T-Mobile store to do this (but the SIM will cost $20) or you can get a $4.99 SIM starter kit from Best Buy or Amazon (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/t-mobile-complete-sim-starter-kit-white/8699899.p?skuId=8699899 or https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK, call into customer service, and perform a SIM swap. Do NOT buy a new SIM from the T-Mobile website; these are not meant for replacements, and will come pre-activated. While they can be deactivated and reused, it's a hassle and easier to just get a new SIM put on your account at a T-Mobile store, or get a blank, inactive SIM from Amazon or Best Buy.
I think AT&T iphones should work. However, please be careful of sim size. As far as I know idol 3 uses micro-sim whereas iphones use nano-sims. So you may have a problem. The easiest solution is to buy a Cricket sim from Walmart, Target etc. and activate it on your existing line. Amazon is charging $5 for it
Then your micro-sim will quit working and the number will transfer to the nano sim. You will have to do this procedure for each line.
T-Mobile doesn't care if you have a Verizon phone or not. As long as it's unlocked you're good to go. Also iPhone 6 Plus isn't band 12 compatible so depending on your area, you may not be able to take advantage of T-Mobiles entire network. iPhone 6s, 7, & SE are band 12 compatible.
Edit: You can activate a sim online and select your plan and port your number. Get the 3 in 1 sim from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zhvFybJDEDQER
You should be able to. You're gonna need the Verizon account holders name, account address, account number, and account pin/password if applicable.
I am not sure if you're gonna need new sims or if you will be able to use any existing active sim cards from those 2 active lines. If you find that you do need new sims, Amazon has them. Otherwise, T-Mobile might charge you $20 for each sim if you get it through them. Also, you can port those numbers in through the phone or through T-Force, no need to go into a store unless you need to do it right away.
As a few others have said, Amazon also has them on sale: https://www.amazon.com/Cricket-Wireless-SIM-Card-Kit/dp/B0136NJTLS/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1492470551&sr=1-1&keywords=cricket+sim+card
It looks like a limit of two, and I don't know how Amazon handles international shipping for things like that.
I have used sims from UK Three in Austria, Switzerland and France and had a good experience. They cover most of Europe and can be purchased from Amazon and set up before you leave. You get a UK based number and we used it with iMessage no problem.
Porting a number means moving a phone number from one carrier to another. The www.sprint.com/1yearfree promotion is only available to users with a compatible phone (your future unlocked Apple Store iPhone qualifies) and porting a number in from another carrier.
In your case, it appears you do not already have a number with an existing carrier, so you'll want to source a phone number from a carrier as quickly, painlessly, and cheaply as possible. Unfortunately, I do not know the absolute optimum solution to this, but I do know a good one: get the T-mobile "bring your own device" activation kit from Amazon https://www.smile.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Prepaid-Complete-SIM-Kit/dp/B00LPPHHFK, shove the sim card in your new iPhone and activate t-mobile prepaid service on the 'pay as you go' tier. You'll be able to activate service and get a number without paying T-mobile anything (do not pay for a top-up credit). Then call up Sprint at https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/bring-your-own-phone/user-not-eligible.html and ask for the 1 year free promotion. When they ask for your port information, give them that it's t-mobile prepaid. The phone number is the phone number, the 'account number' is 1 plus the phone number, and the account pin is what you set while setting up t-mobile prepaid. Sprint will ship you a sim card and you can start using the 1yearfree service.
You could purchase a pre-paid SIM card from a service provider on any member country. Roaming is mandatory within the EU. So you can buy a card in France & use it with the same rates in the Netherlands.
Examples from Amazon using UK phone numbers.
If you have Amazon Prime and don’t have time to run around to different stores. You will need to use the SIM card in that packaging with the letter D identifier.
Edit: Clarification
I'm not sure it matters whether you use an eSIM or physical SIM. There are usually little kiosks to buy service at the airport. Sometimes there are even vending machines.
You can also get a service like Google Fi or an Orange SIM card ahead of time.
You could look into getting a prepaid Orange sim card! I believe i got mine off of Amazon, but that was just for a 3-week trip (and it cut off exactly on the 21st day haha) so I would take a look into their options and see if they have what you need for a longer-term service! Overall though I had no issues getting it set up quickly and easily after 10 hours of travel and while using it in multiple countries. There may be other brands that are better suited to your needs, but I recommend Orange in particular as I believe they are one of the top brands in France/Europe!
When I went to Europe a few years ago, I used this SIM card, which worked great. I just looked on amazon, and it still has great reviews. I set it up before leaving the USA, and voilá!
A SIM comes free with packaged deals, such as the one that is occasionally available on LivingSocial.
A SIM is available for $2 on Amazon, too:
https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9/
I don't believe they're available in local stores. Amazon has them for $2-- best if you have Amazon Prime, or have some other stuff you need to order to get free shipping.
https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9
I checked Amazon for sales on new phones by service providers, as they sell the phones cheapish and get their money from sales of phone service. I got two phones from Tracphone for $19.99 each.
Currently $77

May not be what you are looking for as it is a little pricier, but you can get a legitimate number with from Tello for $2 and then activate on their monthly plan for $5/month. This is a prepaid carrier so you can cancel after 1 month.
https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9
I'm not sure if Tello offers a completely free SIM if you sign up for the plan on their site. Their may also be other pre-paid providers with activation + monthly cost of <$10.
$10 is definitely legitimate number
Yes, you'd just switch it out when you head out and you'll have full access to the cheaper plan. If you need more data, Orange Holidays at $50 for 120 minutes/1000 texts/20GB (minutes are good to call and text the US also) or [Three Pay as you Go]*https://www.amazon.com/PrePaid-destinations-including-European-countries/dp/B01FI1JW72/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1HMITT14JYF7J&keywords=europe+sim+card&qid=1655313322&sprefix=europe+sim+card%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-5) is $30 for 12GB and 3000 minutes and texts but the minutes and texts can only be used within the country you're in (in this case Italy).
I used a Three SIM I bought ahead of time (actually, my method was more convoluted that just buying the month sim) and used it in Edinburgh and London, then my wife used it when she went to France the next year. Note: do not use voice minutes, they're stupid expensive; call using whatsapp or facetime/data. I'm pretty sure you can get it, put it in the phone, and test it out.
When I signed in and it asked for a physical address I think I used one of the bars near where I was going to be staying in Edinburgh.
I'm on T-mobile now, so int'l texts are free, calls are 25c/min, and data is slow (like dial-up slow - 128kbps) but unlimited. Voice is 25c/min, but if I'm calling via old-school voice it's because I'm probably about to die.
Once they unlock your phone you should be able to use the new sim for the best carrier, it says right on my kit which is the new one I think
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728N8PT9
"Works with one of Americas top 3 4G LTE networks, choose the network that works with your phone
Once they unlock my Moto G Stylus phone later this week, I will move my main sim with Tello to it then put the Verizon sim in an older phone that I have since the Tracfone sim came with with the 1500/1500/1500 bundle thats good for a year. That will become my backup phone.
If this is what you're looking for, I bought mine on Amazon on Saturday for 99c and it was delivered the next day. They have a new sim card that works for all carriers now.
I used https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Holiday-Europe-New-Package/dp/B07RXYH2NW/
Popped it in when we landed, it worked really well for me on my recent trip to Germany & Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome, and Cinque Terre).
"The thing is, can i order SIM card from amazon, such as https://www.amazon.com/eGift-Promotion-Tracfone-Phone-Prepaid/dp/B0728N8PT9."
Specifically, you cannot use that SIM if your goal is to unlock the phone. The phones you bought came with SIM cards, and they must use the original SIM cards to qualify for unlocking. (Tracfone actually tracks use for the unlocking requirement by the original SIM card.) If for some reason the original SIM cards are not available, Customer Service might be able to pair the IMEI with a replacement SIM card.
My guess is that phone will have to contact an eligible tower to actually activate. The process online indicates that the first phone call is required. From Tracfone's Terms of Service:
"Tracfone Service can only be activated where Tracfone Service is offered and supported by Tracfone. " and "You will not be able to make or receive calls on your Tracfone when you
are located outside of the United States, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin
Islands."
Go to Verizon's IMEI Checker and see if your phone is compatible with Verizon. To get your IMEI, dial *#06#.
If it's compatible like my G5 Plus, you can just buy a $1 Tracfone Prepaid Sim Card Kit. It comes with three SIMs, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. They're also available at Walmart and Target.
You can then contact Tracfone CS and have them transfer your number to Verizon using the new Verizon SIM in the SIM kit.
Get this.
PrePaid Europe (UK THREE) sim card 12GB data+3000 minutes+3000 texts for 30 days with FREE ROAMING / USE in 71 destinations including all European countries https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01FI1JW72/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_PK8HHMEP6MFCDST9R3AR
Tmobile will also give you a temp unlock if you need it. Pop your tmobile sim into an old phone if you want to continue receiving texts while abroad since they have free global text and really slow data.
If you can get the iPhone unlocked, all you need is a new SIM Kit which includes the SIM cards for all three networks, AT&T, Verizon snd T-Mobile.
You can pickup the SIM Kit at Target or order one from Amazon for $0.99 which is delivered to your home for free if you have Amazon Prime. I did this a couple weeks ago and it took a couple days to get the SIM Kit.
Tracfone Keep Your Own Phone 3-in-1 Prepaid SIM Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728N8PT9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_9FWY36QEYDT3QNGZK8FW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
After you get the SIM Kit, contact Tracfone via chat and tell them you want to transfer your number to a different phone and that you have a new Verizon SIM. It took about 20 minutes.
This is the way. And these routers might be on the more expensive side but they are perfect for this.
Honestly, you're probably going to have to pick up a SIM card.
Walmart Family Mobile - offers 5GBs with unlimited slow data thereafter for $25. Unreal Mobile - offers 2GBs for $15, also with unlimited Mobile data thereafter.
Tello is great but out have tomorrow today from Amazon for it to arrive by Christmas eve: Tello Mobile - Bring Your Own Phone - 3 in 1 GSM SIM Card Kit https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08H5SM9M9/
I recommend Three, it's from UK. I used it when I was hitting up a bunch of countries in Europe. It covers EU and Iceland. https://www.amazon.com/PrePaid-destinations-including-European-countries/dp/B01FI1JW72/ is an example, but you could get it elsewhere.
For the phone I’ve twice now bought this prepaid card before leaving
Orange Holiday Europe New Package – 20GB Internet Data in 4G/LTE + 120 mn + 1000 Texts in 30 Countries in Europe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RXYH2NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1609JFD1VH7C08AKX6GT
The 20 GB has always lasted me my entire trip but my longest trip was around 10 days. I was always hooking up to WiFi if I could. And every once in a while I found myself wanting or needing to make a phone call abs the 120 minutes available was nice.
Europeans generally use more cash but last time I was in Spain in late 2019 I could use Apple Pay almost everywhere. Even on the bus in Madrid. I had much better experience just withdrawing euros from bank ATMs but I have Schwab so ATM fees are reimbursed. Last trip I used exchange places a couple of times because I lost my ATM card and I felt ripped off on multiple levels.
Also, American Express is not accepted in many places. So make sure you have a Visa card or MasterCard and always pay in local currency. Make sure you get a card that doesn’t charge a fee for foreign transactions.
Great! Just also wanted to let you know I have never heard of that router company and I’m not sure on how muck trust you can put into them. There is a company just like that router does and it’s called MoFi. They are much more known and people love them. Here’s a link to a great Amazon MoFi router. Take a look at the reviews if you want to too.
MOFI4500-4GXeLTE-SIM7-COMBO 4G/LTE Router with Upgraded 2 x Cell Antenna AT&T T-Mobile Verizon SIM Slot with Band 2,4,5,12,13,14,17,66,71 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NYWJYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6WG2CSXFD0N4GF8C2M1D
Have you tried calling your carrier? If you have been a customer for a several years, they may unlock your phone as a courtesy if you explain you're going to be using it overseas. Mainline carriers (Verizon, AT&T) are more generous than discount providers who resell mainline service.
Of note, many prepaid SIMs don't allow for tethering. For example, the SIM I used when I spent three weeks in Europe a couple years ago worked like an absolute champ in my iPhone but explicitly disallows tethering.
If your carrier won't unlock, you may be better off buying/borrowing a phone and buying a prepaid SIM than rolling the dice on a tethered mobile hotspot and prepaid SIM. Doesn't everyone have an old phone or two in a drawer somewhere?

Get yourself one of these, and get a tablet sim card from T-Mobile. Mobile hotspot is the only option I have at my house as well, and this works wonders. I now only have streaming services for tv (Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, etc.) and they all work fine. I also play Rocket League on my PS5, and it works great.
> You can not just buy a sim kit without activation.
and that's the shit that I hate, because right here I can get one on Amazon, and hell, I could have even grabbed one at Walmart if I wanted to wait for someone to open the cage. Just wanted one that would already be on my account, activated, ready to go, the easiest way possible.
>Their job (according to actual policy) is to make sure the device works on our network.
and I completely understand that, but, I was very glad the rep had the leeway required to just hand over the in envelope SIM kit and let me monkey through the rest.
The last time I was in Germany (2018), I used the Orange holiday SIM, and had no issues activating and using in Germany and Austria: https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Holiday-Europe-New-Package/dp/B07RXYH2NW
I don't think you'll find a Tello SIM card locally. Amazon has them if you have Amazon Prime, but in my location it still wouldn't arrive until Friday. That would be cutting it very close. It's not unusual for a port to Tello to take 24 hours if started over the weekend, either.
https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9
i am not aware of anyone other than google fi doing that multi carrier on the same sim thing.
redpocket is also on all major networks, and you can switch your carrier half way through the contract(you must forfeit the remaining month)
or get tracfone/net10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728N8PT9/ the starter kit comes with all 3 sims, you can try activating all 3 on a cheap plan and compare them for a month.

Okay... Could I buy something like this and just say I have a SIM? https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Tello&qid=1617308218&s=wireless&sr=1-1
How is the service? Does not associating your IMEI to the account have any unwanted impact?
This router
I’m the only one using it. At most there’s a thermostat, two Apple TV’s and a Sony TV that hook up to it. They’re never streaming anything at the same time.
Changing the IP address seems to work sometimes but it’s 50/50. A lot of times when the connection comes back on it’s very slow and keeps timing out
I use a MOFI router
I have a T-Mobile SIM card. All of my other devices don’t have issues. In my living room my Sony Bravia connects with no issues
Thank you btw
Am chiming in to verify [ EDIT: for others interested in this thread ] that I purchased one of these from Tello Mobile on Amazon.com on 29 Jan and was able to activate it the day I received it (same link, shows "you purchased..." -- see https://imgur.com/a/vq46lg3 )
The sim on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H5SM9M9 has been in and out of stock on an off.
Sometimes it has showed "1 left" etc.
I did manage to get one delivered right away during one during the brief periods when it was in stock.
Right now is shows as available but "Arrives: Sunday, Feb 21" "Fastest delivery: Saturday, Feb 20"
which means it is really out of stock at Amazon but they have new stock arriving at the end of this week and you can order from that if you want.
I was able to get mine here^ on 29 Jan, and they are showing as available now (15 Feb early AM). And they're $6.99 instead of $9.99.
All I had to do once I received it was activate the SIM by entering its activation code on tello (and then linking it up with my phone).
As a note, I ordered one from Tello themselves when I set up porting my number/phone from my old carrier and paid for priority mail (SIM card was $9.99 but 100% credited back before I paid the shipping and the account's first month), but usps ended up taking more than a week and still no news, so I ordered online at amazon -- the amazon one got here really fast, so in my opinion it's cheaper, faster, and easier to get it from them on amazon. YMMV.
Did you buy it from Tello or somewhere else? I noticed that all the sims on EBAY are the old CDMA which are not GSM and won't work on the new Tello service. Tello is not shipping CDMA sims this year. I'd contact the seller and ask for a refund or that they send you a Tello branded GSM sim that will work. This is what you need if you're bringing your own phone https://www.amazon.com/Tello-Mobile-Bring-Your-Phone/dp/B08H5SM9M9/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Tello&qid=1613099588&s=wireless&sr=1-1
I Don't know if this will work but you can buy this TELLO SIM on amazon and then test out the sim on the phone if it works you can just transfer the service to the new SIM

I found it on Amazon: MOFI4500-4GXeLTE-SIM7-COMBO 4G/LTE Router with Upgraded 2 x Cell Antenna AT&T T-Mobile Verizon SIM Slot with Band 2,4,5,12,13,14,17,66,71 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NYWJYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NHDNM7W1YVEMMPV2M6ZF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Tello on Amazon sells their new gsm sim for $6.99, a better price than directly from tello.com

That’s me since the world locked down. I get unbelievably stir crazy and always wonder what other people cope. Do you stream shows or you have DVD’s? I was able to buy a receiver that tricks cell towers into thinking it’s a cell phone.

Great! Thanks for the info. She is saying that the number would still be flagged as Sprint and they wouldn't allow the port. Sounds like you were able to do it just fine with the AT&T number.
This sound like what you bought, https://www.amazon.com/eGift-Promotion-Tracfone-Phone-Prepaid/dp/B0728N8PT9 Did you have to purchase any airtime before porting back out from TracFone?
There wasn't much reason to tinker, there are 2 main methods carriers can use to detect data, TTL, the phone reporting the interface the data came through,
Outside of that they can also use user-agent but that is liable for false positives so hasn't been common since 2013 from experience dealt with tmobile using UA filtering back in the day and certain apps from the playstore were always considered hotspot data since they used desktop user agents,
The only things they can count with certainty is a list of blacklisted urls, examples are psn and xboxlive servers, and windows update
If a vpn is added to the methods above i can think of zero ways a properly modified device can be detected, and even if the phones sold cant disable dun usb methods exist that can then be extended with ethernet to a router to make a wifi access point, or you can pay for something like a mofi that should work on just about any carrier that doesn't have a IMEI whitelist since they dont have any ability to report anything and edit ttl in there own firmware with the default setup
Already some people who checked wether they work on visible and as far as i know they haven't had isssues yet

unless your an audiophile that needs that high quality dac (🤭) just get an cheapo prepaid tracfone/net 10 phone and use that in airplane mode. you could get something like a moto e6 or something even cheaper with all the holiday sales now.
I don't know about the LG Stylo 4, but the Moto E6 has a user-swappable battery (in fact it's shipped with the battery outside the phone). It takes about a minute to 'install' the battery (less time after you've done it once or twice). My last phone works fine, but the battery is dying, and it would cost more to fix it than the phone is worth.
If you still haven't bought a phone, Amazon has the Tracfone Moto E6 on sale today for $19.99: https://www.amazon.com/Tracfone-Motorola-Prepaid-Smartphone-Locked/dp/B07Y5TTS2Q
Amazon's normal price for this phone is $39.99. I've seen it on sale before in the low $20's a few times, so if you missed today's sale, you might want to wait until it's on sale again (I've seen some previous reddit announcements of such sales).
I actually bought an unlocked E6 for $100 (to replace my other phone with the dying battery), but I also just bought one of the Tracfone models for $20, simply to use as a 2nd battery and charger.
For $20, I get a battery, charger plug and USB cable, and I plan to use the Tracfone E6 itself as a 'dock' to keep the 2nd battery charged up until I need it (and maybe use the phone without activation as a WiFi 'mini-tablet' elsewhere in my home). Given that the extra battery alone sells for about $19, this was too good to pass up!
I have no clue. I googled it but nothing came up with a satisfactory answer.
You can get a new sim from amazon for $3 though.
Yeah, I always associated Cricket with a lower quality service, and I recall from years and years ago, they were primarily limited to the city limits, with zero coverage between major cities.
I switched because I needed something faster after finally giving up on Sprint. I like my stuff to just work and so far I haven't had any problems with Cricket that would cause me to stop using them. At the Harris Teeter on Park near Selwyn, my phone will lose signal at the back of the store, but the Harris Teeter at Park and Woodlawn it works just fine throughout. That's the only thing I can recall right now.
I've traveled via car to D.C. and back, and to Phoenix and back, down into Georgia, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach, and back, and had zero issues.
You do need phones with radios which work on their network, which is one thing to consider. I believe every iPhone 6 or greater has radios to allow it to work on any network. I personally use a Huawei android phone, but many newer phones come with essentially an all-in-one radio. This will be an important consideration in whether or not looking at Cricket will work.
You can get a Cricket Sim pack from one of their stores for 10 bucks or via Amazon and try it out on a new number before making a decision to switch and port numbers, since there is no contract or any cancellation fee.
“How to activate: 1. Simply insert SIM into your unlocked phone, make sure you enable roaming in settings. 2. Wait for the signal, accept Three UK setting messages, then you are all set to go. 3. Test it in the US before your travel”
Amazon! I recently visited the UK and Ireland and used the 3 prepaid sim. It works perfectly and also supports other European counties.
PrePaid Europe (UK THREE) sim... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FI1JW72
Yes - I can’t find a way to share a Prime Now link but here: https://i.imgur.com/Ra6yMuI.jpg
Here’s the same on Amazon itself but obviously no two hour delivery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPPHHFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ShEjDbCKQS12P
I recently got this for an international visitor who needed data only for email/whatsapp:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0728N8PT9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It lets you choose number of service days. You can choose network (AT&T/Tmobile/Verizon). For 2 months, you will probably spend roughly $5-$10 (after Amazon gift card) depending upon how much data you need.
Thanks. At the time I preordered my Note, there was no option to include a Sprint SIM card like it is now. I'm just glad I thought to ask before the phone arrived.
After reading the advice provided here, I ordered this SIM kit from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07SWDX7BF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MDZwDbN9H3FJV
I'm pretty confident that the SIM I need is included.
May not be the cheapest option, but we purchased these SIMs from amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/PrePaid-destinations-including-European-countries/dp/B01FI1JW72/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1ELIWSMEHEKKN&keywords=europe+sim+card&qid=1566398612&s=gateway&sprefix=europ%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-3
We've had two groups of friends use them without issue. One group stayed in Italy only and other group did a cruise and visited multiple countries. We trusted them and will be using it as well on our trip in 2 weeks.
I got this from Amazon ahead of time and it worked perfectly! Data only but that’s fine if you use Messenger or WhatsApp. The one through Birthright is a rip-off, especially if you’re extending at all. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FI1JW72?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought the exact phone (unlocked Moto g6) from eBay for ~$87 billed as open box a few months ago - it arrived as brand new. I'm a cheap ass, but this is definitely the phone you want - best budget phone out there. Don't nickle and dime here.
You need to buy a sim card for it. The cheapest services run on Sprint, so you need a Sprint sim. $3 from Amazon plus shipping.
Table that shows which sim card model# you need for Moto g6 in case you want to purchase elsewhere ( it is "simolw416q") https://s4gru.com/forums/topic/7833-the-s4gru-aio-byod-sim-compatibility-chart/
If you buy it from Amazon:
Sprint Sim Kit - Your Phone. Our Plan. - Unlimited Plans Starting $25/Month https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SWDX7BF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yEOKDb81WT77K
I happily used Tello for 2 yrs for cheap ($10 + tax lasted me a year of use with their PAYG service)
But now all is changing.
The minimum now to start service is $20, and you have to recharge for $20 every 3 months. So it will cost $80 per year, which is still decent at a little less than $7 a month. The rates come out to be 1 cent/ min for calls and texting, 2 cent/mb for data. And I believe the balance rolls over indefinitely ( just emailed them to make sure and awaiting their response).
You could also sign up for the monthly plan, which is $5 or $6 at minimum per month, which is no data and 100 mins voice and free texting I believe. Verify that.
I also need to checkout pageplus and also another service called twillio or something like that.
Very dissappointed with Tello's rate inc, but yes, they still might be the best option out there for users like us.

I got this kit when I changed from a 6s+ to an iPhone 11, had four variable-sized Sprint SIMS in the kit. To be fair, I couldn't figure out which SIM was which (there didn't seem to be a type stamped on them) but by trial-and-error I found the right one.
I mean, for $2.99 how can you go wrong (and free next-day shipping with Prime, don't know how Amazon survives).
Just an option.
Use the 3 UK Sim Card. You can buy it on amazon for $19 and it comes with a local number with unlimited minutes to Europe(when in Europe) and 12GB of LTE data(though it will show as 4G because that’s how it works in the UK).
You can activate it in the US if you have coverage on ATT or T-Mobile when you activate, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FI1JW72/
Hotspot is allowed in the UK and EU but not outside the EU(such as when roaming in the US, Brazil or Australia which is also included with the sim)
It uses SIMOLW506TQ.
If you are buying the SIM from Amazon make sure it is the offical one sold by Sprint that is Amazon Prime eligible.

I'm doing this and bought a tracphone. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y5TTS2Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I didn't sign up for the service, and just hotspot to it in the morning for beginning my route and again at the end of the day.
I toss it on the dash and dont touch it all day. 850 score for the most part.

The cheapest way I found was to get a Sprint starter sim from Amazon, I got this one but it's out of stock now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SWDX7BF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Then I got a plan from Tello, when I tried it they had a sale going for 1 month unlimited.
For me I found my coverage at my office was great, but at home it was spotty even outside.
I just activated an Alcatel Go Flip from Boost. I didn't have to unlock it, but not sure if it auto-unlocked because it was on Boost for a while. Get the SIM kit from Amazon for $1 vs $10 through Tello https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SWDX7BF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
iPhone 5s uses SIMOLW506C according to the Tello device checker. Check if this is the same info u got on their page.
$0.99 Sprint SIM kit on Amazon. Read reviews.

After digging on the sprint website i see they now have a listing for g8 and g8 plus "sophia" (this was the code name for the g power and stylus before the phones were announced if im not mistaken)
this is part number 760492036429 which is the simolw506tq "sim card C" included in the 4 in 1 byod kit available on amazon
I haven't tried this myself as i dont have my phone yet, but for those struggling it would be something to try as the 4 in 1 kit is easily available on prime.

if you need another sim in the future, buy it from amazon.
if your old Sprint sim is giving you problems, maybe a new one will help. the kit above contains 4 sims. you can check which sim your phone uses and reserve the other 3 sims for future use. sadly, but the less you interact with sprint, the less complications you will encounter. and people here are more knowledgeable and always a huge help!
You can sell the $15 plan card and probably cover your costs. Alternatively buy a $1 tracfone sim off amazon (https://www.amazon.com/eGift-Promotion-Tracfone-Phone-Prepaid/dp/B0728N8PT9), activate the card and you get a $25 amazon gift card in 10 days. Money maker.
Best I can find right now. Otherwise try ebay or locally.
