There's a really cool parallel here in Harry's conversation with Helena Ravenclaw, to his needling of Slughorn for the memory. Both Slughorn and Helena have information they are reluctant to share with Dumbledore, but share with Harry and Voldemort. It further ties Voldemort and Harry together, in their ability to persuade others, while providing a contrast of purpose. Same abilities, but one for evil, the other for good.

On Ron and Hermione, they are a great couple for each other. Ron has always felt insecure about himself, with his siblings and with Harry. Hermione never treats Ron as second best, and that is incredibly important in their relationship. She even breaks the rules for him (she does break rules for a just cause, but in the case of confuding Cormac, she does for Ron). Since Harry is the main POV for the books, you don't really see Ron/Hermione's relationship developing overtly, but it's clear they spend a lot of time alone, and often come to Harry after discussing things together. In multiple books, Hermione is at the Burrow before Harry, even though you'd expect she would spend time with her Muggle family. Instead, you see how Hermione, like Harry, craves to belong in the Magical world. Hermione does everything to be great at magic, but she can't really share that with her Muggle parents. The Weasleys provide that loving, Magical home for both Harry and Hermione.

There's a cool guide to the books that treats Harry Potter as a mystery novel, pointing out the clues J.K. leaves. Recommend checking it out:

When I was a kid my parents bought me all those unofficial "guide to the Wizarding world" books that went super in depth on all this stuff.
This one was probably my favorite. It's still sitting on my bookshelf
Well I get the obvious ones, I just know there’s some juice to every little line I’m probably not getting. Someone sent this link, this was what I was looking for, https://www.amazon.com/dp/019973870X/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_3W51M9CMGC31FG2Z4QX7_0
I don't know if this is your English teacher, but there is a book on this subject. Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C. S. Lewis, by Michael Ward.
u/kittywiggles, if you're interested as well, it's a great book.
That is absolutely going to happen. The depth and nuance on this show. Soon, it’ll be listed here for great minds to ponder:

So I had a nose at your wishlist and noticed a folk lore type of book so I'm going to suggest an annotated Brothers Grimm. I got my dad a copy for his birthday and its gorgeous, plus Brothers Grimm is like Quintessential folklore, so having the annotations and illustrations is just amazing. One of my favourite things is looking at literature through the lense of its time and how intertwined they are. So I love things that add context that we might overlook in the modern age.
I'm also going to back the mention I saw of needlefelting! It's really fun. You should definitely do that too!
Ummm birthday bash ^_^

Well, if you like Marxist critique of fantasy, I highly recommend "A Bourgeois Writer's Proletarian Fables", by Martin Tempralis. It is a fervent analysis of the class struggle within the Hundred Acres Wood, denouncing the capitalist oppressor Rabbit and his deluded henchman Pooh; with a fervent call to man the barricades in Eeyore's Gloomy Corner.
I recommend ultimate unofficial guide to the mysteries of Harry Potter , it’s a great book and goes into all the background info and connections if you like things like this
The whole damn book is filled with names like this. Like grawp, he is a very small giant and was constantly told to grow up = grawp in giantese

If you are a newbie and a fan of stuff, there's a series called "Pop Culture and Philosophy" that starts with some pretty famous properties and discusses some ideas related to those.
My grandad gave me this book titled "Pokémon and Harry Potter, a fatal attraction". I read it (age 12) and laughed because it cited an onion article as a source. Honestly the book made me sad because the preacher who wrote it told a story about how he convinced his son Pokémon was evil and his son took his Gameboy outside and smashed it with a hammer. It seemed abusive af. This 3rd party book was really interesting. I picked it up while waiting for book 5 and it was really entertaining
This is a huge topic on so many different small games, rhymes, stories, etc. If you're interested in it, read The Lore and Language of Schoolchildren. It explores so many of these games and also why it happens to be different.
Other than The Children's Book of Virtues I don't have any suggestions- sorry! However have you tried the subreddit r/whatsthatbook? They might be able to help if you don't get any answers here.
you have never seen anyone claim that a movie has satanic subliminal messages, and illuminati symbols, or circles with wings that will make you love the nephilim?
you ahve never seen conspiracy theorists pick apart movies and claim they are part of secret cult mind control or new world order stuff?
I envy you...
Look at this shit https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Harry-Potter-Fatal-Attraction/dp/1575580675
They just randomly attach ideas to things.
And my question is has Critical Role climbed high enough on the pop culture ladder to attract the attention of one of these lunatics? Someone who wil lclaim that matt mercer is a reptillian shapeshifter, or a hologram.
Have you seriously never heard of this stuff? people claim constantly that disney hides homosexual propaganda subliminal messages and such that will turn kids gay.
There is a whole world of crazy that just... is existing out there.
Yeah no I’m very aware of what it’s about, real world influences on the fictional Wizarding World universe. I had this book back in the day that was the same thing.
Norton published a really gorgeous hardcover of The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition.
