I'd highly recommend Kevin Roose's book The Unlikely Disciple for a fascinating, concise glimpse into Liberty's culture. He was then a Brown University student (ie extremely open-minded "liberal") who did a semester at Liberty out of morbid curiosity. It's a super quick read too!
Edit: I seem to have created a downvote-enemy in this thread. Still cannot recommend the book enough! In the words of LaVar Burton: Don't take my word for it!
hey there. someone already did this a couple of years ago. his name is kevin roose and he now works for the new york times. he published a book called The Unlikely Disciple .

also posting this on reddit and boasting about it is probably not your best idea but have fun!
You should read the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Catholicism by McBrien, it will be incredibly hard to unpack Catholic tradition and theology from just the Bible itself.
Now if only they took down the even more egregious patriot’s Bible with commentary notes comparing the second amendment to Abraham arming his servants and extolling the virtues of stonewall Jackson and Robert E Lee

Holy shit lol!

The Story is a pretty good resource, it essentially condenses the NIV translation of the Bible down into, well, a story.
As others have said, don’t read it like a novel. It’s not intended to be understood in that way.
What I would do is use bible.com or the Bible app and sign up for one of the whole Bible plans. That will also give you context into what you’re reading and they present themes or sections that go together well.
I personally use ESV as it’s the closest readable translation to what the original was. A lot of Protestant churches use the NIV.
If you do want to get the ideas in a novelization type format, you can use The Story but you’re not directly reading the Bible when doing that.
My brother and I bought a copy of The American Patriot's Bible when we visited a Sam's Club across the border. It includes many excerpts from guys like Jefferson, Payne, and Franklin. For us, it's kinda corny and funny to have, but I assume some people really appreciate it as a serious study(?) bible.
I purchased a bible from Amazon called Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible NIV. It puts the NWT to shame!!! I love this bible. It gives a verse by verse break down and correlates the beliefs to the contemporary cultural beliefs of that time. It even gives you Hebrew and Aramaic literal translations like the word for Satan which was not an actual name, in fact the Hebrews had no concept of The Devil. It has maps and lots of references. I highly recommend it!

Conversion starts with the heart so you’ve taken the biggest step. While you wait for an answer you could always begin by:
1) Attending mass: https://mass-online.org
2) Learning the rosary. Learning about the awesome Marian Apparitions like Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe. You can also read about the miracles of the Rosary (google Rosary Miracles)
3) Catechism Book to help you learn about the beliefs
Catechism of the Catholic Church: Second Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/0385508190/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-A3nFbAQZDVQR
4) Read about Saints like a Padre Pio.
5) Contact other nearby church
The book Unlikely Disciple is written by this guy who went to Liberty University as a journalist. He lets the reader see the angst and fear he watches coming forth from the kids there who realize that maybe, just maybe, their faith isn't really sincere or isn't genuine enough and fear dying before they can be baptized a second or third time. Because that's the thing about salvation - if you don't question it, you may be committing the sin of presumption, which is the sin of pride, which means you haven't accepted Christ as your savior for real, not deep in your spirit where it counts. No, I have no envy for the fear that is the other side of the coin of faith. It's constant gaslighting, by others and by your own self.
As far as the fear of not being, you won't be aware of it. How do you feel about the billions of years you didn't exist before you were born?
i've had many versions, probably all of the most popular ones. (people like to give converts catechisms for some reason!) i like the baltimore catechism but overall (ease of reading, convenience, size, etc.) this was my preferred one: https://www.amazon.com/Catechism-Catholic-Church-Second-U-S/dp/0385508190
The vatican website also has the catechism online so that's an option as well

I haven't actually read this plan, so take it with a grain of salt. You've been warned
I know you want a youverion plan, but I think you'd really like this

I think most people with a high school education can handle reading straight from St. Thomas. I highly recommend Peter Kreeft's abridged and well-annotated version Summa of the Summa. He has a gift for making the more difficult ideas of Aquinas easier to understand.
A podcast geared towards Aquinas without being too technical is Pints with Aquinas by Matt Fradd.
No, I'm just tired of people thinking it's harmless. Don't take my word for it. Here's a top selling book on Amazon. Use the look inside feature or check out the authors other books. It's not subtle.

It basically claims that Trump is the second coming of Jesus, and Biden is the anti christ.
Somewhere along the way, it tells you that America is the "new Jerusalem".
I honestly think the current Catechism of the Catholic Church is the best since it is built on the work of previous catechisms, and is more up to date regarding to development of doctrine.
For example in past catechisms prohibited work on the Lord's Day was essentially manual labor, but much of this was before the cubicle revolution. Thus back in those days to do something like write a deed or contract was not considered prohibited. Since the advent of the computer the work force has changed tremendously, and many people are engaged in servile labor using their minds. As a result the Catechism calls us rest not only bodies, but also minds, on the Lords Day. Development of doctrines, such as this, are not found in older catechisms, and so you will miss out.
This slogan is the name of a book - did the author speak at the conference ? https://www.amazon.com/Awake-Not-Woke-Christian-Progressive/dp/1505118425/ref=nodl_?dplnkId=a5d86223-8b51-4cfc-954d-ca9f2d2ba0b2
I'm not wasting my time reading a random book by a random author with ill credentials likely spewing crackpot.
Ill read it after you finish reading this, how about that?

great reviews, picture of author, must be true.
You talking about the MAGA Christian nationalist that was rocking a face tat of "AWAKE" which was specifically coined by a book written by 'Christian' right-wingers as a counter slogan to "woke"-ness and modern culture?
Awake the Rapper
"Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light." --Ephesians 5:14
https://www.amazon.com/Awake-Not-Woke-Christian-Progressive/dp/1505118425
Pretty sure he referenced that given his rapper name and rapping about being a sleepwalker. Definitely a lot of lunacy.
Highly recommend you check the right wing subs about this, they're saying stuff like:
>"He has a tattoo that says 'Awake' on his face, everyone knows lefties are "woke", she he's obviously a lefty.
They completely ignore "Awake, not Woke"
(the right wing christo-fascist response to "Woke-ism", He's not a "woke lefty", he's an "awake christian")
>Ffs just a read a book or two
>The Biggest Story Bible Storybook
How is it similar to/different from The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones?
Whatever she believes comes from this book. Scary and she teaches her children these beliefs.
It’s all I’m concerned with in fact. This book is full of empirical evidence to prove this

The validity of an argument is not judged on your hearsay of the opinion of a potentially unvirtuous or hypocritical person.
And the Catholic Church does not read from the bible literally. We have 2000 years of progressive reading and learning that has helped morally guide us during that time.
If you're interested in understanding how our religion differs from yours, I suggest that you pick-up this book so that you may argue and discuss from a learned position.
I think what you might be looking for is The Story. It is however, not just the first five books but the whole Bible - written to read like a full story.
