I like the Creative Options Thread Organizer. They are marketed to craft stores but these cases hold 48 cars. Each side has a double-sized slot which will hold the bigger ones like Hiway Hauler. The price on Amazon jumps between $7 and $11.
“Thread organizer” is the term. There are quite a few for $30ish, if you actually search “hot wheels case” but if you search Thread Organizer, this comes up for $15

This, OP. Creative options is available[when they are] at hobby lobby, amazon, craft stores, etc. It's a double-sided thread organizer but holds 48 cars perfectly. Probably need to find them in-store, but remember to use the coupon.
Also glad I could help with the images! For the cases they're on Amazon and seem pretty popular amongst collectors.

Yeah the XT is born with a big hairy wart on its ass. Sadly, some of it is hard welded into the frame, it isn't super easy to eliminate. Most of us just live with it. The only up-side I can give is that at least it's strong enough you can tie big shit to it. My 2015 XT250 is identical to this save the Yamaha blue. I have the small Rubbermaid Action Packer tied to the lift handles, and around the hard steel pipe that hides inside that rubber cover bridging from the frame to the tail light. The box is tied down with very strong string (think like starter pull cord but a bit thinner), and it's an indestructible mount. Seriously could never break off. Normally you need to buy a rack to get that strength. The ugly tail light assembly is that strong.
It's this one from Amazon. It may be the motivation you need to wind your skeins onto bobbins because I don't think skeins would fit nicely without folding them.
If hes looking for storage, these are popular: https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Options-5315-Thread-Organizer/dp/B001IYMCJO
Premium lines are always nice as well: Car Culture is out at WalMart/Target. Pop Culture are cars with pop culture paint jobs.
I use these but I know I paid a lot less than they are going for on Amazon, that was many years ago though. I use them when I decide it's time to keep them from collecting dust from sitting on these shelves.
Thanks, and yes, I wasn't a fan at first but seeing the Speedtail in silver won me over. Here is the case: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001IYMCJO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are a little pricey for just plastic, but I haven't found anything better.
It's this item but look for other sellers as I actually bought this from a local art-supply store: https://www.amazon.ca/Creative-Options-5315-Thread-Organizer/dp/B001IYMCJO
I store my blisters in CLEAR tubs and my loose in the Jammer cases (like these). https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Options-5315-Thread-Organizer/dp/B001IYMCJO/ref=asc_df_B001IYMCJO/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=216504060462&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9626927407310110323&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030019&hvtargid=pla-350168545344&psc=1
ID cars are pretty cool, but I only buy the castings I collect (mostly Corvettes).

Just ordered this one, hope it’s big enough! I’m more or less looking for something for two when he’s grown! The enclosure my sister has is a bit small for even just the one, and Wilson has a temporary enclosure until that time.
JUST found this same pic and was about to post it. haha
To any interested I found them on Amazon: (not an AF link)

My mom got me a thread organizer case for mine when I was a kid 25 years ago. I needed another one for my sons cars and found the exact one on amazon, it works perfect. Here is the link

Are they just these shelving panels?
That's f'ing brilliant.
Are you still trying to let in sunlight? Just want something to hold the lights or other benefits that might come with a tent? I would be worried the typical black outsides would attract way too much heat.
What if you just used the frame of a tent without the cover?
Or even something similar that could hold the light? Of the top of my head, maybe something like this and just don’t use the bar for clothes?
I just started using this and it fits the bobbins nicely.
I have most of mine sorted in these. You should be able to get them for $1-2 each from a dollar store. They stack well and hold 4+ of most controllers.
I bought a bunch of 6 Qt Sterilite shoe boxes a few years ago. I use them for everything - shoes, craft supplies, hardware, etc. - and they’ve been fine on wire shelves. Each box can hold one pair of heels, two pairs of ballet flats, or 3-4 pairs of flip flops. They stack nicely too. My shelves are 1ft deep. https://www.amazon.com/ONE-Sterilite-6-Quart-Storage-Shoe/dp/B00NQEWQ90
The cube storage on Amazon are pretty cool. You can switch up the designs which is nice if you have low or slanted ceilings/limited space. They’re easy to mount on the wall as well but work great on the floor all the same. Plus you can always add more or take them down if you downsize ever! ¯_(ツ)_/¯ The wires are awesome for hanging clips too!!!
Save yourself some money. I do like that site though. A 4x8 sheet of coroplast is about 25$ some zipties and your in business. I made a 3x5 for my 2 boys and they just love it
Very cool! I love that you opened them. I have about 200 i opened as well. I keep them in these https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Options-5315-Thread-Organizer/dp/B001IYMCJO/
I have more that i haven't opened... I open 2-4 each week. At this rate I'll never get to them all lol

I would recommend looking into C&C Grids, they are customizable 12"x12" grid squares that can be assembled into any shapes, an example would be https://www.amazon.ca/AHOME-Construction-Modular-Organizer-Storage/dp/B07DJ3YZXR/ref=asc\_df\_B07DJ3YZXR/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=335291106176&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1533024764625148627&hvpone=&hvptwo=&...
You can order this thread organizer from amazon. Fits most cars well as long as they dont have huge protruding parts
