I second the washable alternative to puppy pads! We have a set of these prefold diapers that we use for everything... diaper changes on the go, another layer of protection for our changing pad, etc. They are so absorbent and handy! https://www.amazon.com/Prefold-Cloth-Diapers-Unbleached-Pre-Washed/dp/B00ZQJCN3C
Went for a 50% off lightning deal on a set from Alva: ALVABABY Baby Cloth Diapers One Size Adjustable Washable Reusable for Baby Girls and Boys 6 Pack with 12 Inserts 6BM98 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C7JW3GQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-KFHFb9434EA3
Haha, the fold I use is called the origami fold and it is printed on the packaging of the osocozy flat diapers. They come in bleached and unbleached, I like the unbleached better but it’s just personal preference, they’re the same in utility. link to unbleached flats
Buying cloth diapers are good most are pocket so they don't have to much bulk unless you want to add pads that won't get used. my 2 favs from amazon

I put plastic pants over the whole diaper cover at night. It prevents leaking. You need to get it big enough to cover the whole outside of the diaper.

I have 2 diaper pails and 2 medium sized wet bags that I got on Amazon. Got 2 to rotate through laundry day. The 2 medium sized wet bags I really only use when out and about; have one wet bag holds with clean diapers and the other is used for dirty diapers.
I have total 90 cotton flannel wipes that I also bought on Amazon—whenever there’s poop I usually double or triple wipe (1/2 to clean and 1 to dry butt) I wash every 3 days but also have enough pocket diapers such that I don’t need to stuff diapers until the weekend which is convenient for me. But that also means I needed to buy extra wipes so that wouldn’t be a limiting factor.
This is the wipes I bought off of Amazon (Buttons Flannel Baby Reusable Washable Natural Unbleached Wipes - 15 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GLBR3C0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7DMW7QBT023GDZEQF4BY)
Green Mountain Diapers and Osocozy are popular. We use these small ones and these big ones. As long as you have something with multiple layers, they'll be fine. I prefer 100% cotton.
Baby stuff, like wedding stuff is absurdly expensive.
If you’re looking at having a kid, reusable diapers are dope as hell. The ones we used had buttons everywhere to adjust the sizes so they lasted until potty training. You’ll need this little hose attachment. You attach it to the water pipe the feeds your toilet. Use that to wash poop into the toilet. You’ll also what a Home Depot style bucket without holes in the bottom. One scoop of the scent free, sensitive skin with some water. I’d stick the used diapers in the bucket to wash everything that night. If we were out, we’d put the used diapers in plastic bags until we got home. There were a few blow outs, but that would have happened with disposable diapers.
Even with using the washer once a day, using the dryer once a day, buying the hose, using more water, getting whatever supplies, it’s still significantly cheaper than disposable diapers. We did use disposable diapers for road trips or if we when somewhere for a few days. You don’t want a shitty diaper sitting in your car for a few days or whatever.
We got ours used through a friend of a friend thing. They were like this if anyone wants to try them out. We had a total of like 15 I think. When kid learned how to use the shitter we gave them to another soon to be parent. If we have more kids, we plan on using reusable diapers again. I really liked them. Since I’m a SAHD I did most of the changing so there’s a lot of experience behind those words.

We honestly bought Alva's through Amazon and they have held up better than most of our other diapers. We used pockets and the prints are pretty cute. Our son is now almost 2 and a half and he can still fit into them for night time and naps, though he started to toilet train himself about a month ago. Alva Diapers

^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?
I’d get a pocket diaper or a similar diaper cover with some interior absorbent material. The pain with plastic pants is that if pee gets past one leak guard without being absorbed, it could seep out of the legs of the plastic pants too. I own a few of these and they are good for the price. You can also use them with cloth inserts as well.
Prefacing all of this with: I am being induced in a few days, so please take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt since I haven't done this in practice yet.
I bought Buttons unbleached flannel wipes from Amazon. They're sold in packs of 15 wipes for about $8 each. I bought 3 packs just to be on the safe side--but honestly if I bought too many, I wouldn't mind using these for myself, either. They're super soft and absorbent after being pre-washed 3x.
They're about 7.5" and fit perfectly in a Prince Lionheart wipe warmer (not that warmers are necessary--I'm only using one because someone gifted it to me).
Fot a DIY wipe solution, I plan to use water and a little aquaphor liquid baby soap (no fragrance/dyes etc). Keeping it simple! A touch of witch hazel and vitamin E extract can be added if the skin gets irritated for any reason.
I hope this is helpful, even if not completely tried and true yet. :)
We had cloth diapers when we were babies and mom put these covers over our diapers at night. There's many kinds, sizes, and a choice of fabric, like nylon or plastic, and they have elastic leg openings.
Mom didn't toss them in the wash with the diapers because she bleached the diapers. She hand washed and pinned up to dry. :)
This is the link for what I have. They have size charts for waist so yiu should be able to find an option that works :3 it doesn't come with the pad but those should be shown In the "buy together" or whatever
This is what I have. The inside is cloth with a slit for an absorbing pad but the outside is like a super smooth plastic and it has stretchy velcro snaps. It also comes in alot of different prints. I personally have the foxes and 2 others
We cloth diaper and while we sometimes use disposable wipes, we mostly use cloth flannel ones like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GLBR3C0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_K72RTFQ10ZWF1J54BSCH
We'll spray the wipe with water and then use it on baby.
But yes the bigger issue is where she's getting this information and not backing down.
They did have nylon ones then, but most were vinyl.
Here they are on Amazon. Dappi Waterproof 100% Nylon Diaper Pants, White, Medium (2 Count) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035JL912/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q35EED8FQC1T4HE9HCMY
I got 2 packs of these. We do cloth diapers so the laundry is done every other day and they've proven themselves. We keep a water bottle by the diaper station, no essential oils or anything else. Going on 3.5 months with no diaper rashes!
It’s not a huge time savings but they do come in a shorter inseam than running shorts. Lots of color options too if you are into that.
These are kinda like swimming diapers, absorbent but a bit bulky in my opinion. My son liked them at first. Pricy but worth a try if your kid doesn't like being wet.
This might be unpopular advice, but I would try stopping all creams and change her diapers frequently, making sure to completely dry her before putting the clean diaper on. We use cotton flannel reusable wipes that we just keep dry and use after the wet wipes. Use hypoallergenic everything - wipes (I personally like targets), unscented diapers, bath soap.
Definitely also check in with the ped, or a pediatric dermatologist to rule out strep, yeast, etc.
Thanks. Yeah they are. You can get them of Amazon. They have a few other designs and you can get inserts for them if you want to use them as a cloth diaper. I like to use mine a diaper cover though. https://www.amazon.com/Diaper-Reusable-Washable-Disability-Incontinence/dp/B07PLQH9V7
I bought thirsties duo size one used from poshmark but was scared they would be too big. I ended up buying thirsties newborn/preemie covers but they ended up being way too small so I barely used them. Turns out the thirsties size one fit just fine (son was born 7 pounds. I wouldn’t buy specific newborn sized diapers until your baby is born.
I also bought oso cozy unbleached Birdseye flats. I don’t recommend them because they’re not very absorbent. I love these cloth wipes though! Or you can make your own cloth wipes
I also have only like 5 covers, do laundry every other day, and that is perfect for me. So don’t feel you have to buy a bunch to start. Start small and if you think you need them buy more later
We use these wipes and like them! We just use a bowl of fresh water as well and that has worked well for us. The wipes do get a little rough with use but my LO doesn't seem to mind.
I recently purchased a bunch of these Sigzogar pocket diapers from Amazon. All Velcro versions.

I use them with EcoAble trifold Me charcoal bamboo inserts. These are my weekday night diapers and work great. I can't stay in them long anyway since I need to wake up early for work.
a little cheapie water proof cover at bedtime and car trips, sometimes they are called plastic pants. You slip the plastic cover over the top of the undies. Like this Dappi Waterproof 100% Nylon Diaper Pants, White, Medium (2 Count) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035JL912/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RMH1A0XGVAJF4XHFZS7W

I'm planning on cloth diapering after the newborn phase. I've gotten some inserts and a couple of packs of diapers.
I keep searching for "easy step by step to start cloth diapering" but there are so many damn options and I have to believe I used to be better at decision making but hormones are killing me right now (37+6).
Do I need to prepare my washer? It's a cheap ass washer, probably from the 90's. Apparently I'm supposed to clean it. I did not know washing machines get cleaned. (incidentally I also just learned that I'm supposed to clean my dishwasher filter, arg! where even is that)
Do I need to double wash and rinse everything prior to use? I've just been throwing all clothes and things into the wash with sensitive skin detergent. But diapers need special detergent? Or none? Or strip them? WTF is stripping.
Do I need to buy a bidet thing for my toilet so I can do a quick rinse prior to washing dirties?
When dirty, do y'all just use a diaper genie to round 'em up until you have a chunk to throw in the wash? Is that...is that as disgusting as it sounds?
Can I just get a step-by-step ffs?
I feel like when I was a kid my parents just covered us in rags and called it good. This seems overly complicated.
Help?
