Ok so here it is I ordered 1 12U open server rack from Amazon a couple weeks ago. First package never showed up so Amazon said it probably got lost in shipping and they'd send me another one. Second one was supposed to be delivered yesterday but got a notice saying it couldn't be delivered (don't blame em) and I'd have to go pick it up from the local Post Office.
Show up this morning and the guy says I hope you have a truck and tells me to drive around to the loading dock. I was confused but went along with it thinking it was just heavy (40-50lbs rack). I go back and he is sitting there with a pallet. I realize what happened at that moment. After we load em up he asks when I'm coming back for the other pallet? Apparently the 1st order was there also. Told him to return the other pallet to sender.
Checked my Amazon order and confirmed the quantity was 1 and I was also only charged for 1 (about $210). Should I contact Amazon about this or just keep quiet and see what happens? We're talking about $2300 worth of server racks here.
edit: Don't bother asking for one at this point, I've got a long list of people messaging me for a chance to get one. First come first serve. There's not enough to go around any more. Merry Christmas.
edit edit: UPDATE! So I reached out to Amazon's customer support, they said I could keep the extras and assured me I wouldn't be charged. I made it very clear that I wanted to do the right thing and would return them, if it could be arranged, since I didn't pay for all these but they said don't worry about it. Took screenshots as proof. I'll probably get my Amazon account removed.... I'm still going to wait a month or so before distributing any to friends, family, and my fellow lucky redditors.
If you have Amazon prime, they have a 42U for $300.

Typically the shorter depth racks are meant for network/telecom and occasionally AV gear.
Wall mounting a rack with any legit server is going to be tough (weight and leverage).
The route I went was I have a similar rack I use for my network gear and then I have a vertical wall mount 4U rack that lets me mount my 3U server flat against the wall.
Here's an example. Relatively inexpensive and gets the job done https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001YHYVEY/
Hi thanks :) Its a startech 12U 2 post. I got it off amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001U14MO8/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1
Due to where i live i couldn't find a second hand proper rack and a new one was just too expensive. So i settled for that. Honestly i find it works great though.
If you're okay with open racks, you could check the Startech 12U one, I have the 25U one and it's good quality IMO. Here is the amazon page; https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-Adjustable-Depth-Server-Cabinet/dp/B00P1RJ9LS/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=startech%2Brack&qid=1553636746&s=gateway&sr=8-5&th=1
19" is the most common. Craigslist is the best place to look for cheap racks, many people buy them and fail to use them so sell cheap to regain space or companies renewing hardware, going out of business, etc. Otherwise Amazon has some good deals from time to time like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVKOPBW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LfJTCb6N5D4G9
It's from "StarTech". They come in a few sizes; I opted for the WALLMOUNT8. Retail is $92, but I got it on Amazon for $56 on sale.
It's sturdier than it looks (and i worried for a moment when I added the UPS which is heavy af); the cross-bar they provide is NOT optional.
For the time, money and hackering you're going to invest on this, assuming you have or can buy the rails for your server better get a 12U rack like this and you're done.
Or you can buy these and mount them to hold the server at the very bottom of your rack, just beware it might tip off at somepoint if there's too much tinkering on it.
The only irony here is that /u/MegaHz may not know amazon.ca exists:

$50 CAD, free shipping. Of course if you're buying from US Amazon, it's going to SHIP from the US.
Wood is a great dissipater of heat! I kid.
How much did you really save over just buying an amazon rack: StarTech.com 42U 4 Post Open Frame Server Rack - Floor Standing Network Data Cabinet (4POSTRACK42) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVKOPBW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_E5IjDbCXE99WJ

It’s an amazing case, but its extremely shallow.
Looks like the same one I used.

It's great and pretty much what I expected. However the mounting bolts they give you are for cement walls, I just bought some 3" lag bolts from home depot that worked perfectly.
Used this for a couple of builds for small clients. $207 with prime. Dell offers 2-post rack mounting kits.
Source: I have 7 t6x0 and r7x0 servers mounted on a 2-post rack...mine is a 7ft rack bolted to the floor.
I have the racksolutions kit for an r740 since Dell was months back ordered for 2-post kits.

Alternately, OP could go with 2 rack shelves like:
Although lookin at 2 post tripplite racks, it seems a little sketchy.
It was this one, an adjustable 25u rack. It's a comfortable height for me to access stuff on top (I'm 5' 11").
i have servers in my rack that weigh more than 150lb.
My startech 25u rack supports 1200lb.... https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O6GNLQE
if you can, figure out the depth for them and make things to bolt them together at a few points (top, 1/3rd of the way, 1/3rd of the way, bottom for example) and they'll probably work well.
This is a good option if you don't mind it being open (No sides, doors etc)
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Open-Frame-Server-Rack/dp/B00O6GNLQE
Its adjustable, and they often accidently ship an entire pallet
For racks, there are lots of good options on Amazon, like the StarTech 6U wall-mounted network rack which I've seen mentioned on here several times and I've installed two of.
Just gotta be careful with the depth and what you plan to put in it. For example, a UDM-Pro will fit, and a UNVR will need a right-angled power cable but will have very little clearance in the back. That USW-24-PoE you have will fit as well. But if you want to upgrade to the 24 Pro or the 48 at some point, those may not fit.
I have this one, I have it set up for the deepest depth it goes. I’m selling it for $200 so I can get a smaller one. I don’t need one this big.
I also have this... Amazon.com: StarTech.com 8U Wall Mount Patch Panel Bracket - 12-Inch Deep - 19" Patch Panel Rack for Shallow Network Equipment- 80lbs Capacity (WALLMOUNT8): Computers & Accessories
for all of my networking equipment. Since my house is wired with Cat6 it's got to plug into something. What are your plans for this new server?
Use something like these rails, get like two 1x4 common boards and screw it to the left side of the closet to extend it out further for sufficient depth, then screw the other rail to the other side of the wall. Add spacers to get the right EIA 19" spacing width.
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-12U-Open-Frame-Rack/dp/B001U14MO8/
I think you can buy just the rails for cheaper elsewhere which are actually designed to be screwed into wood, but I don't know anything about those... I'm sure another home labber would be able to help with that.
You can also get extended depth wall mount rack, this is probably the best (i.e. most legit way to do it) but it will cost you more.
I started with this small 6U 19” rack
StarTech.com 6U Wall Mount Network Equipment Rack - 14 Inch Deep - 19" Patch Panel Bracket for Shallow Server Equipment- 44lbs Capacity (WALLMOUNT6) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VDPBXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_UjhYFbS6A5MMB
It’s shallow do you need to get the shorter depth shelves like this :
StarTech.com 1U Fixed Server Rack Mount Shelf - 10in Deep Steel Universal Cantilever Tray for 19" AV/Network Equipment Rack - 44lbs (CABSHELF1U10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071RN1858/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_hnhYFbW0TD257
Nice wire work.
I bought this one off Amazon brand new for 250 shipped. StarTech 25U Adjustable Depth Open Frame 4 Post Server Rack.
I live in a area that doesn't have a lot of old server equipments so I had to get this one. It's great since it's adjustable depth. And casters are awesome addition as well
And of course, always, after posting this, I find this product.
Does anyone know if there is a cheaper solution or can verify the quality of this apart from Amazon reviews?
Yeah my plan is to get something like this, but I only have 1 rack mount case. Shelves are easy enough to buy but I want to be able to have a clean looking front so I can keep wires clean and standard.
If this is a new build make sure to future proof. With more and more motherboards showing up with 10Gbe widespread 10G access is not far off now.
Use cat6a or cat7 for the house wiring, way cheaper to do it now then have to try and run it later.
I'd personal use a wall mounted rack and just put the patch panel and switches on it.
