My garage is the same and I bought something like this. Mounted on my ceiling next to the garage door opener. Best money I ever spent.
DEWENWILS 30 Ft Retractable Extension Cord Reel, Ceiling/Wall Mount 16/3 Gauge SJTW Power Cord with 3 Electrical Outlets Pigtail for Garage and Shop, 10 Amp Circuit Breaker, Metal Plate, ETL Listed https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YKDMFQR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_CIx3Fb3QD282T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You won't find an actual commercial battery vac for that price, and the ones that are commercial grade and battery are also much larger and heavier than a standard upright.
Buy an extension cord reel. That way you can plug it in once, do whatever area s you need, then just wind the cord up
Anecdotal, but repeatable:
Plug a 1500w heater into one of these and wait a couple hours:
Yes they roll up great, I put mine on a $9 extension cord roller. Works great!

I’ve been considering designing two pieces to make them proper cord winders. End result would be similar to the below, just smaller.. then maybe give them away? Idk..

many years ago we started putting our lights on electrical cord reels and it's made it so much easier..
here's a cheap one as an example:

No one really uses reels. They're not quite as convenient as you would think, and yes, if you're not using the full length of cable, you're gonna spend a little bit of energy as heat in the run, that's usually negligible though. We usually don't use them because they don't hold up and like I said, aren't really convenient. Some of us do however use extension cord reels for storage. Like this:
As for the spec you're talking about, as per NEC (someone correct me if I'm wrong) those conductors have to be jacketed and rated for at least 300v no matter what. I think they're mixing up the intended use and the maximum rating by saying 125v.
Do you have a garage?
If so, this accessory is by far one of the most used things in my garage;

One thing I have always wanted to try is using a mouse bungie, it sounds kind of dumb but I think it would work well
edit: my form of cable managment is to attach a command wire loop to my keyboard in the blank spot near the arro keys and just run the cable safely over my keboard, it never gets in they way or hits my keys, BTW I have a G910 fullsized
yeah, /u/crackeddryice , i think you are trying to invent something that a lot of different companys already have invented.
just one that comes to mind...

You should consider getting a Wonder Winder to store your cord. I love that thing. It makes tangled cord messes a thing of the past.
I don't see why they couldn't make one out of these retractable cords.
30' is way more than I need in the livingroom. If they scaled it down, I could see something like this working very well.
What about two lines and these
Those make adjusting either side really easy, plus it gives you a reason to buy stuff on amazon.
Velcro OneWraps are lifesavers for cable management. They're far superior to generic zipties as they don't crimp cables when tight, are reusable, and don't require snips to remove.
> Cable ties and snips are useful for neater cabling.
Velcro OneWraps all the way. No snips, no excess ties floating around, no crimped cables, and they're removable/adjustable/reusable.
Edit: Fixed the link
Sounds like a One Act competition. We either coil them and use tie line, or if we have a lot of cords to handle, we use an extension cord reel such as this. Reel the first cord on, then plug the second cord into the first, and reel it in until you fill it up, then move onto a second one if needed.
I don't think that you really need a spool to store that little amount of wire, but........ Odd thing is, this is the cheapest route to go and will hold whatever you want to throw on there. Or this one
One thing to keep in mind is that the cable isn't as big of a deal as you think it will be. You're not going to be spinning around much (bad idea in general), and it's more natural than you think. Every use a corded drill or a vacuum cleaner? Now think about how much easier ti would be to use if the cord was always out of the way behind you by being attached to your back.
I had the same idea as you when the Vive was announced from what I've heard from developers and other first hand experiences it's not a good idea.
Here are some of the components I was considering: Extension Cord reel http://www.amazon.com/Bayco-SL-800-Professional-Retractable-30-Foot/dp/B000256R9G
Once I started using one of these, I never looked back:
Yea, I'd have to see that.
I don't want my antenna perm attached to the pole b/c the pole gets zip stripped to the roof rack of my wagon. :D
But I was thinking that these extension cord reels would do just fine for each leg and the feed. 3 reels.
The way I attach to my pole at the top is I put a pvc X on it, and I attached a short piece of pvc to the plastic plate where my feed line & legs come together. It just slips into the X on top of the pole.
