The pattern is Dimensions 72-73987. I thought it was cuter without the backstitching so I left it like this. I wanted to try a small kit to see how I liked it before buying a bunch of supplies, which naturally I did right after I finished this one! Can't wait to start my next piece when the thread comes in.
Not a silly question at all! Waste canvas is aida that you baste to whatever fabric you want to use, then after you finish your project you pull the individual threads away. I used this brand from Amazon:
https://amazon.com/gp/product/B003W0F2RQ
When I was pulling the thread away it tended to break a lot, but other than that it came away cleanly and I'm really pleased with the finished product
I used a water-soluble waste canvas. (This one on Amazon.) I pinned it to the sweatshirt, then used those guideholes to stitch the kitties. After I was done with all the stitching, I just soaked them in warm water and the "plastic" canvas dissolved. It was super easy and the only thing I didn't love about it was that I could only find it in 14 count, no smaller.
It is a 14 count soluble canvas that my local store recommended me. I found a similar one on amazon so you can check it out. It feels like plastic, but dissolved in hot water.
I just loosely tacked it on where I wanted it and started from the middle.
Pattern is Colorful Deer on Amazon. Overall a decent pattern (and the kit came with everything!) but I felt like a lot of the detail was lost so I ended up adding some backstitching and French knots myself. It’s my first time cross stitching since I was a kid and I fell back in love with it!
Thank you very much! :) I've used this: https://www.amazon.com/Designs-Easy-Count-Guideline-100-Yard-Red/dp/B002WE1EWU#:~:text=The%20Easy%2DCount%20Guideline%20assists,a%20breeze%20to%20follow%20patterns., kind of a red fishing line? I think it will be easy to pull out, but I was wondering if backstitching over it would make the stitches too loose and not flat, if you know what I mean?

I got the feminist cross stitch book too… and I LOVE it… maybe I’ll start with cross stitch for a start hmmmmm
Both these books are so good!!!! I really need to start doing it!!!!!
I did this in 14 count black cloth, and used pink floss for the flowers instead of red like it asked for. I got the pattern from a book on Amazon called "50 F*ucking clever designs for your sassy side"

This will be the first time I'll be framing a finished piece for myself. Just need to wash and iron first!
Here’s where I got it! https://www.amazon.com/Dimensions-72-73987-Crafts-Counted-Stitch/dp/B00B71S7VA?ref_=Oct_CAMGiftedC_262617011_1&pf_rd_r=YJVEVMBVHTM0Q25YQXZQ&pf_rd_p=43c66edb-9145-53f9-bbd4-77f603c93e2f&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-5&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_r... I went with something small to see if I actually liked it and I do!
Needles for Cross stitching are blunt tipped with a larger eye, not a standard sewing needle. They are usually called tapestry needles. Bohin and John James are my favourite.
DMC is the best thread, and while it is more expensive it is well worth the extra. Cheap floss is very frustrating to work with and can make you think it's you that is the problem and not the quality of the floss. Would not recommend!
Dimentions has some great beginners kits. I'd recommend starting with this one :D
It has everything you need :D
/r/CrossStitch is a great subreddit :D
I used DMC’s Soluble Aida for a pattern I stitched onto a denim shirt. Although it’s quite expensive for the size, I would 100% recommend it over waste canvas! Slight downside is it moves quite a lot, so I ended up putting a running stitch round the edge as well as a very tight hoop. The one I used -
Not etsy, but Dimensions has a licensed little kit for super mario world. It's small, affordable, and the character is well known.

Thank you very much! Here's the link to the book on Amazon for anyone interested. :)
Hello, this is my first time posting. I just found this sub and I'm obsessed! This is my first project that is full coverage and large. I had done a little growing up but recently picked it back up. My last 2 projects were very small and simple. I wanted to commit to something big and more complicated.
Please any tips or suggestions are SO welcome! I clearly don't have much rhyme to my sewing, just kinda go where my mood takes me.
This pattern is from amazon, colorful deer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CGHYF2I/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_aL6LzbGMSHGR4
I got this in a kit off of Amazon (Amazon Link) to dip my toes into cross stitching so to speak.
I really enjoyed the process and I'm thinking I need to get more materials and start doing this more!
Monofilament, got this off Amazon. It was easy to work with but covering the whole piece took a while, plus I had to line it up with my original stitching. Luckily my counts weren't off when I started it.
Dimensions cross stitch kit 72-75593 (Can’t Adult)
After lots of inspiration from this sub, I finally took this kit out of the package and started it a few days ago. I think I found a new hobby!
Mods informed me my original list got deleted for posting the pattern with the picture.

I recommend kids crochet kits. You can all get the same kit (includes all supplies needed) and learn together. If they like Mario, this may be a good kit to try with them.
I bought the pattern from Amazon :
[Colorful Deer counted cross stitch, Egypt cotton thread , 14ct 42x49cm 150x200 Stith counted cross stitch kits https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CGHYF2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6WJhEb6XPS2Y6]()
Second this. I've never done griding before, I usually just work my way out from the center, but next year I'm doing a cross stitch of Starry Night over the Rhone by Van Gogh so that's not really feasible. I'm gonna be getting this from Amazon to do my griding with. I've seen it suggested on here a few times as easy to remove after you finish stitching because it's plastic so you can't accidentally stitch it to your fabric (ie put your needle through the string making it impossible to just simply pull out after).
I've used this..I tried the one that dissolves but i found it was difficult to work with for methis
It's a special loose weave aida fabric designed to be pulled out a thread at a time when you've finished stitching. https://www.stitchtastic.com/blog/stch/using-waste-canvas/
I honestly don't even bother wetting it.
https://www.amazon.com/DMC-Waste-Canvas-14ct-12in/dp/B003W0F2RQ
This is the 2nd cross stitch I've actually finished (I have couple others that I've started). That 'A' was a total PITA.

Also, the reason why the 'u' is a slightly different color is because the kit didn't include enough floss, so I found the closest one I have in my stash.
I bought this off Amazon when I first started this project, the fabric is 14 ct and it was easy (very time consuming but relatively easy) to 'sew' it in.
It's definitely more sturdy than regular fishing line.
This is the kit I did not pay attention to the size of before I bought - part of my proven crafting track record of "ah, it'll be fine! I'll pick it up as I go!" - and then had a period of oh no when I realised that the paper chart was a full nine pages of A4 in size and the centre point start is riiiight in the middle of all that colour changing nonsense just below the eye.

...oh no, in the process of searching for this kit I've ended up on the brands amazon page and now I'm eyeing up the owl that's in the same series, and I already have an overly complicated owl kit in my stash because - see above - the only way to try blackwork is clearly to buy a rainbow-gradient-on-black-aida.
I'd buy this starter kit! It'll save you the trouble of finding a sprite & color matching. Save that for when it clicks & he wants to keep doing it.
