First, make sure the template prints at 100% — my computer defaults to “fit to page” and then prints a letter-size page at 96%.
I cover the whole enclosure in 2 layers of painters tape (to protect against scratches) and then tape the template over that. I use an old school manual center punch (not the spring-loaded kind) to make a pilot mark, then I drill starting with a very narrow bit and working my way up to the appropriate size for each hole. Anything past about 5/16” I use a step bit. I use a hand drill for this — don’t have a drill press. It takes patience but if you go slow you can get it accurate enough
You can drill through tile. Take your time and go really slow. Let the drill do the work and don't press to hard or you will crack the tile.

SLOW......with minimal pressure....Did I mention that you need to go SLOW?
> Wera 136000
Thanks a million! Ended up grabbing /u/paul_the_builder's link which is a bit cheaper than Wera and looks to be about the same length as the one bit I needed (plus some extra bits)
Sorry, most of the ones that come up when you search "1/4" socket hex adapter" come out at like 2"+ long. /u/Paul_The_Builder's link above shows the different sizes, and it looks like the far left one is a perfect length for a replacement
Glass can be drilled
Might be overkill but I'd you're concerned about the edges getting banged up you can make your own edge banding out of solid wood and put whatever profile you like on it using these router bits HandsEase 2Pcs 1/2" Shank Router Bit Set 120 Degree Tongue Groove Router Bit Set with Edge Banding Woodworking Groove Chisel Cutter Tools https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PMHS2HR/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_D91RR9EZ5DQMJ62V87N3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I struggled with this too, and now I’ve got a pretty good system: 1. Cover the enclosure with two layers of masking tape. This protects against scratches. 2” painter’s tape makes this go pretty fast vs using skinnier tape, but really any masking tape will work. 2. Tape your drill template onto the covered enclosure. 3. Use a center punch to mark the center point for drilling. I never had luck with the spring-loaded center punch so I switched to the old fashioned kind you hit with a mallet. One solid hit with a rubber mallet (or normal hammer) should drive the point through both layers of tape and into the metal. 4. Remove the drill template but leave the masking tape in place. you are going to drill through the tape so that if the drill head touches down you will scuff the tape, not your enclosure. You should see the indentations from the center punch. If you’re drilling things with different diameters, at this point I will often label the indentations with sharpie on the tape so I know what goes where. 5. This is my most important discovery: the single biggest game changer was switching to cobalt drill bits. They cut through the aluminum super easily, so I get clean precise holes (I’m using a regular 18V cordless drill because I don’t have space for a drill press). I typically start with the second or third-smallest size for the pilot hole, then step up skipping 1-2 sizes. The set I linked to will cover pretty much everything from a bare LED to a 1/4” jack and I think I get more precise holes stepping up with the straight bits vs a step bit (even though it takes a bit longer). I do use a step by for larger holes like stomp switches.
I hope that helps— lmk if you have any follow up questions.

That's how some people do it. There are also large hole blades designed for use with stone, like these:
https://www.amazon.com/DIATOOL-Diamond-Drilling-Granite-Concrete/dp/B07K2XFD9F?th=1
It all comes down to things like how much time you have, what tools you already have, how much you're willing to spend, how deep the holes have to go, etc.
Thank you! Honestly go visit some thrift shops for cool and super cheap pots! I would say like 80ish% of the pots in this post have been thrifted, I just buy anything that would make a cool pot and then I drill holes in them with my drill and a diamond tipped bit(in case anyone wants to know which specific ones I bought these ones on amazon I bought them for like $18)
Most woodworkers would probably prefer to do their own research on what tools they want, so I always recommend not buying tools for woodworkers. I recommend getting "consumables."
For example, get a set of brad-point bits or a giant set of driver bits. Both of those things get lost and break. A few self-centering bits are nice to have as well. They are used to pre-drill holes for things like hinges or other things that need to be right on the money.
Things like that are always welcome where you may or may not get your woodworking spouse the right tool and could have a mixed reaction.

If you currently have glass or ceramic vessels you’d like to put holes in. I prefer the second type of bits. If you have running water near by it’s a good idea to keep your glass/ceramic and bit wet. If not a bucket of water will do.
I thought I wasn’t supposed to do high rpm with larger bits? I get some tear outs at setting 3 (18.5k rpm). The bit was a cheap one but I will check it for residue build up.
Ah I see. Hmm.. yeah I've only seen those as a part of larger kits like this. Couldn't find any individual ones.
This is a nice, thick liquor bottle and it worked flawlessly. This was also the first time I've drilled a large hole in glass like this, and it was pretty darn easy. However, glass is fucking weird, and sometimes it just breaks, so be careful. Wear eye protection, and a dust mask. Bonus points if you have some kevlar (cut-proof) gloves from the kitchen.
The cork is a random recorker I picked up in Napa for a few bucks. The glass stem is a sneaky Pete strong arm adapter.

The fantastic thing about the M is how fantastic it is for dry bonging, you don't need a carb or anything, airflow is built in. Because of this it's incredibly easy to make a dry bong out of any glass you like. I really wanted a whip globe, so I grabbed a bit from home depot and grabbed an old Cap Morgan bottle I had lying around, like 20 minutes later I had this.
