1.) buy a high quality document scanner from best buy/Amazon. I have used this for years.
2.) scan textbook in under an hour
3.) organize textbook in PDF program of your choice
4.) return scanner for not meeting your speed requirements
5.) ???
6.) profit
ProTip: works great for unbinding books as well. Hypothetically, a few students could go in and buy one expensive book at like $10/each and then all have the pdf.
I just use this one, there are some for not much more that you don’t have to keep feeding one by one. I like the portability though
I bought a flatbed scanner from Amazon a few months ago for ~$60 and used it to clear out an entire 4-drawer filing cabinet. I minimized everything to fit in the built-in file drawer of my desk and it was a WONDERFUL feeling when it was all finished! It was definitely a labor of love but I listened to a bunch of podcasts and broke the scanning sessions into segments so I didn't get too overwhelmed. This scanner only fits up to letter-sized documents so that was a bit of a challenge, but larger scanners are so much more expensive.

I replaced mine with the Epson WorkForce ES-400 Color Duplex Document Scanner for PC and Mac, Auto Document Feeder (ADF). Around $280.

The ones I am thinking about are like this. https://www.amazon.com/Brother-DS-640-Compact-Document-Scanner/dp/B083R36CY4/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=portable+scanner&qid=1624489230&sr=8-6
I would want to do quite a number of test runs before putting my artwork in there.
That's a good question, I've experienced both ways.. This ScanSnap specifies that it can detect data points to label files with and you can customize.
A big hp scanner/printer software would let me name the file before saving, I want to say it was this hp but I'm really not sure.
Good question to ask before buying though! I wish I could give you more guidance in how to know it has that feature but I'm not sure.
There are a few different choices on Amazon.
1) I work digitally from the start using CLIP STUDIO on a MacBook Air, connected to a UGEE drawing monitor.
2) Canon CanoScan LiDE220 is lightweight and portable. The resolution is 4800x4800, which should do the trick. $110 on Amazon
3) I think if you are ink-phobic, move as quickly as you can to digital art. You can get a digital drawing tablet for the price of a scanner. The learning curve is high, but that's how life is. The benefits are too numerous not to switch over. If you absolutely have to stay with traditional pencils, then make copies of your art and ink them yourself with the idea of "well, it's a copy of the original, so if I make a mistake, no big deal.
Im actually looking into OCR pens to help enter things straight into passportal (IT glue equivalent)
I'll still need to click on the field then scan, click on the next field ETC... but I think this might still help me.
*I have messed up hands so typing is very slow/inaccurate.
Right now the best contender is:

Saved this. Looks like scanning with Eason FastFoto (auto document and date information) and then importing them into Eagle (can manage 100K more files) is an option to go? 🧐
There is a great scanner for photos but its priced in a way that you dont really want to buy it: https://www.amazon.ca/Epson-FastFoto-FF-680W-Wireless-High-Speed/dp/B07DLX26BB
I'd love to buy one, but at $700 CAD its a stupid idea.
I think you're thinking of the ones attached to printers. Portable ones are only a few inches wide and a little longer than a piece of paper. I'm attaching and Amazon link for one I was referring to. https://www.amazon.com/Brother-DS-640-Compact-Document-Scanner/dp/B083R36CY4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1DWMB77T925QQ&keywords=portable%2Bdocument%2Bscanner&qid=1648659181&sprefix=%2Caps%2C501&sr=8-3&th=1
I used my Epson FastFoto for this purpose. Also, doubles as a great (although not flatbed quality) photo scanner as well.

That sounds like a fun project. However you can buy one of these bad boys and it’ll scan them in no time. epson fastfoto scanner
I never liked the combo machines because if one part broke the whole thing sort of becomes useless.
I just have a little feed scanner like this one though https://www.amazon.com/Brother-DS-640-Compact-Document-Scanner/dp/B083R36CY4/
I was looking into photo scanners. The best one on the market is: https://www.amazon.ca/Epson-FastFoto-FF-680W-Wireless-High-Speed/dp/B07DLX26BB
But its $600 so that project will have to wait :)

All yours, for a mere $140.
I did the same thing a few years ago. Started off with a flatbed and the task became virtually impossible with hundreds of photos. I ended up renting an Epson FF680W. It's got an automated feeder that doesn't bend photos like a traditional feeder does. You can put in about 100 photos at a time and it scanned about a photo ever 2 seconds or so (It's been a few years so I don't remember the details too well). Took me about a week total with removing photos from albums. You can buy it if you have the cash or see you can find a photo scanning shop that will rent one to you. Good luck!
I have had my eye on this for some time:
Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-Speed Photo and Document Scanning System
But, damn, it's pricey. The quality is supposed to be really good though, and it connects via wi-fi.
Could be both! I used a stand-alone scanner at my mom's and I'm buying the same. I don't have immediate use for a printer. I got this(not the same as my mom's; I want it to be easy to bring to my grandma's):

You should add this for when you get university handouts, bills or other annoying paper: Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1500 Color Duplex Document Scanner with Touch Screen for Mac and PC [Current Model, 2018 Release] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J3DB57C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TnWMFbEWEPCJ2
Thing is awesome. I used to have the Evernote version of it when I was in college and it made it effortless.
u/amandapanda741 I want to make sure you see this comment. I used the same scanner as well to scan 17,000 old family photos. Very worth the price, especially because my family writes notes on the backside of pictures, so the dual scan was a huge time saver. I used the 1st generation with just USB connectivity, and I can only imagine that the second generation at twice the resolution can only be better. If I had one complaint, it would be that I wasn't able to name things exactly how I wanted, but I was being very picky and the software still does a good job of it. Other than that, every feature performed by the printer and software is amazing and definitely worth the money. Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DLX26BB/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_aDOGCbF3Z2ACZ
External document scanner. Sorry if I wasnt specific, kinda like this https://www.amazon.com/Brother-DS-640-Compact-Document-Scanner/dp/B083R36CY4/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=document+scanner&qid=16033992
u/olivercer The scanner i have right now is an ADF Brother DS-640. It was only $100 at best buy and supports up to 24 bit color with 1200dpi. I am using it to digitize some of my old b/w photography and its pretty great for the price. Their software is a bit lacking but for some reason creates clearer scans than the windows default software. I might post some pictures later.
I recommend one of these if you have that many photos to archive. I would only use the USB 3.0 interface as the wireless works but can be finicky.
Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-Speed Photo and Document Scanning System, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DLX26BB/
Check out this scanner if you need something that can scan fast and has good quality. It is pricier than some, but I like the results and the time it saves is worth it. If you read reviews ensure you are looking at the updated 680 as Amazon has both under the same listing.
300 DPI 4x6 photos are typically scanned around 1 per second.

It all depends on how many you have (and what size they are). If they're normal prints, you can digitize them yourself. Your flatbed scanner could work if there aren't many, but if you've got a bunch, you could also get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DLX26BB/
If it's a handful, any photo place should be able to help (camera store or walgreens/cvs). There are also places you can send a whole box (or boxes) off to, but that will obviously cost more.
Why no flatbed scanner ? That would allow you to scan books and other bulky stuff.
Personally, I use >this< scanner and it works absolutely fine with fedora. It's powered by just the USB cable, so it can be easily unplugged and stored in the bookshelf. Quality is fine for me, but I'm not requiring anything special.
Maybe you should tell us some requirements ?
Correction: I have the LiDE210 model, but it looks exactly the same and I guess that not much has changed.
This was my most exciting purchase. I paid $12.99 for it at a local thrift store call ARC and it has all the parts, still in the original box with styrofoam in tact :D
I'm going to clean it up and send it in to FBA next week.
