I live in a region where large birds of prey aren’t common in the downtown area where we live / play at the park, which takes away a huge stressor.
I wouldn’t recommend free roam training outside if hawks or vultures frequent your skies! Safety first!
The biggest stressors for our bun was traffic noises and other animals (I mean children) at the park, so we slowly worked on those in baby steps.
First, we bought him this backpack carrier from Amazon (I know, Jeff bezos, rich eat the poor, don’t support yada yada but Amazon is the only place that stocks anything like this around me) it has lots of air holes that allow him to see and hear the city while we walk around.
If he ever looked super stressed, we took him home. But we walked around with him as much as possible until he eventually got used to the backpack, then we got him leash trained.
I’m doing leash training in my apartment, we also included free roam / off leash training in the safety of our home.
Once he got trained to my liking, we started slowly outdoors in an x-pen to help him get used to being outside, free roam, in grass.
He freaked out a couple times and of course he tried to escape as all rabbits naturally do, but instead of reprimanding him we just kept a watchful eye on him. This let him know that 1) we’re aware of him and he’s aware of us, 2) he gained independence in a safe space, 3) he felt accomplished and immediately came over to me to give kisses (which is how he shows thank you)
Lots of patience, lots of understanding, and lots of open minded training sessions that never went the same way twice.

An awesome gift I got from my mums: Amazon Link
Here it is on Amazon in three color choices. Accessories added by OP.
Hey! I got it from here ! There are a lot of dupes but this is the official version. I took him to Starbucks and the park and got a lot of comments on it! You can also buy a little fan that sits in the pocket just in case. But. I wouldn’t take him out on too hot days anyway!

Walking might be difficult - as everyone else said, you've got to make sure your cat is comfortable in the harness and can't slip it. Cat getting loose on the street corner = disaster.
Secondary option! Cat backpack!

Lets your cat get outside without risk of escape, and might be a good way to acclimatize them to being out in a loud area. We have this one for our cat and use it to get him to/from the Vet, when we move, and occasionally train travel. Only comment I have is that it's a little smaller than the pictures suggest - he fits just fine, but there's not a lot of room to dance around in there. So if your cat's chunky, maybe look for a bigger one.

If I took my puppy out in public at 9 weeks, I carried her in my arms or in a carrier. There are maybe things you can do to minimize risk, like keeping him on a blanket while outside or getting a puppy backpack if you're walking/hiking somewhere. I think if you use something like a king sized comforter then that could be enough space to play and settle while outside. You could even put a play pen on top of the blanket so he can be off-leash.
Basically, the point is to minimize the amount of contact he has with grass and soil.
Here! I was worried the more common bubble backpacks would get too hot because of the greenhouse effect. This is mostly mesh but has that one plastic window because I wasn't sure if she would look out the mesh.
I haven't been this happy about a purchase in a long time. It's very sturdy and the light/visibility is exactly what I wanted. And the footprint is big enough that he should have plenty of room even once he's fully grown. probably something like this
Dog on a harness leash and cat into one of those clear backpacks. (I attached the link) my cat loves it. She loves walks and car rides.

Sorry for the late reply. I got it from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Lollimeow-Transparent-Backpack-Breathable-Sightseeing/dp/B07DRNTNRP. It’s the expandable black one, and it’s surprisingly nice for the low price. Super easy to clean, made of seemingly durable materials, and pretty cute! I’d definitely recommend this to any hedgie owners looking to take their little friend on an adventure!
Do you think he could carry the cat on his back? Here’s a backpack I would buy for him but not sure. Let me know!
I can’t say I’m surprised but I was just about to suggest OP get a normal basket and make a lid for it or get a cat backpack
We have one that folds out in to a crate. We use it when we’re travelling. Various ferries and trains require her to be in a bag so it’s a backpack so she can see what’s going on then we open it out if she still has to be contained when we’re out and about. She loves it. this one
She chooses to climb in to it any time we get it out.
I use a bird backpack carrier, I live in NYC and the bird vets near me are all in hoity toity neighborhoods that have no parking, so I have to take the bus or a cab.
We got her this one. Good general purpose pack for adventures. Lots of windows and the back expands - which is very handy for pet friendly venues where we don’t get her out. The only downside is that it doesn’t have pockets. https://www.amazon.com/COVONO-Expandable-Backpack-Ventilated-Traveling/dp/B08NYRZD8Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3506JHSZFPT14&keywords=conovo+cat+carrier&qid=1656980899&sprefix=Conovo%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-3
is it not this backpack thats made for cats?
I'd imagine they aren't easy to find, no sane person would want a backpack where strangers could see everything in it.
The only ones I know of are those hard shell pet carrier backpacks. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/LOLLIMEOW-Backpack-Waterproof-Airline-Approved-Designed/dp/B07DRNTNRP
We got this one. She loves it. She runs to get in when we bring it out. The extension is very good in pet-friendly bars and restaurants. The only bad thing is that there are no external pockets or water holders on the pack. https://www.amazon.com/COVONO-Expandable-Backpack-Ventilated-Traveling/dp/B08NYRZD8Q/ref=sr_1_2?crid=25DPGTQZON9I3&keywords=COVONO+Expandable+Pet+Carrier+Backpack+for+Cats%2C+Dogs+and+Small+Animals%2C+Portable+Pet+Travel+Carrier%2C+Super+Venti...
A friend of mine has this one.
COVONO Expandable Pet Carrier Backpack for Cats, Dogs and Small Animals, Portable Pet Travel Carrier, Super Ventilated Design, Airline Approved, Ideal for Traveling/Hiking /Camping https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08NYRZD8Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8VDK44RV6VQKAX64NHV5
As long as she’s comfortable outside and used to the car, camping is fine. Make sure you get her used to longer car rides prior to the trip.
For the ferry, there are a lot of strange noises, smells, and feelings. Still doable but if you leave her in the car, definitely stay in there with her to make sure there isn’t poor airflow/smells and it isn’t too hot. It might be better to take her on deck but maybe cover the carrier with a dark cloth so it’s less stimulating.
I’d also recommend getting a backpack carrier with an expandable area. Easy to carry around and you can give her more space without having to transfer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SHS85BW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T83VHPQ7TY4BVZWENJ0E
One of the biggest things of traveling with cats is making sure they continue to eat and drink. When they’re stressed or not 100% comfortable they won’t. Highly recommend tempting wet food in case they’re not drinking and really encouraging them to drink as much as possible.
It's a pretty rigid cat backpack, so not hard-sided but also not as flexible as a lot of other soft-sided carriers https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NYRZD8Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1. But yes, it's just the height!!
Hmm npt sure what you mean but bf you mean the plane I think its a 737-900er but this is the backpack I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NYRZD8Q/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Yeah, they really enjoyed it. We have a pretty adventurous bunch of boys though. We put the carrier on a table, and just let them explore at their leisure. Once they realized we were there (we did arm bridges), they went bananas. The pet carrier
Hi! I use this carrier for my girl who’s currently about 19” long and it’s perfect. Has a rigid bottom, easy to clean and I can clip her leash/harness to the inside for extra security. Great for the car, the park/short hikes and vet visits!
