P.S. - OP, next time you may want to put the links in the comments of the post. I guarantee more people will get it if they can just get it from the post.
My debut dark fantasy, They Mostly Come Out At Night, is FREE for the next couple of days.
It is available on Amazon stores worldwide:
The book was a semi-finalist in SPFBO2, and I am constantly blown away by the support it receives on the sub. Hope you enjoy your trip into the Magpie King’s forest!
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer
If you want the super pulpy webnovel shit, check out /r/noveltranslations and I suppose if you want a starter series, I think the consensus recommendation is Coiling Dragon. I linked the Amazon page for the first book because the free stuff got taken down due to contracts. For something free, maybe I Shall Seal The Heavens.
Use Shirtaloon's He Who Fights With Monsters as your case study.
He spent 20 months writing his first volume offline (roughly 350k words) then started posting on RoyalRoad with a large backlog for patreon. After he'd written and posted roughly one million words of content for free he published to Amazon through Atheon.
Obviously, he put a ton of work in and nearly two years of his life before even putting the story up for free, but he's been very successful now.
speaking of, defiance of the fall is my number one recommendation, first is on amazon and the rest is on royalroad, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09168R29M?ref_=dbs_m_mng_rwt_calw_tkin_0&storeType=ebooks&qid=1627873967&sr=1-1
another good one would be threadbare, about a sapient teddy bear golem
After the novel was fully translated, wuxiaworld had an agreement with the author where the books were published on amazon (Volume 1 for example).
This book was originally self-pubbed, but got picked up by a professional publisher and re-edited, so even if you've read it already, you might want to check it out again!
Here's the Amazon listing for the book and here it is on B&N's site. The hardcover version is coming out in July.

Just register to Amazon, go to buy, enter your credit card details and buy it. Afterwards you can get the Kindle app.
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS is also $2.99 today
City of Sin from a Chinese author, it is definitely inspired by Planescape: Torment, it is a representative of the rare D&D xianxia genre. The hero is a runemaster, heir to the cursed clan, where the devil bloodline is supported by incest, he rises to power in the planar metropolis, leads planar invasions. Epic, drama and all sorts of 18+. The novel and its translation are completed.
Defiance of the Fall from a Swedish author. It's a rare kind of readable mix of xianxia and litrpg. The hero progresses not just as a cultivator but also as a leader; it deals with management, city building, alliances and backstabs, some economics, genocides, etc. It feels quite, ehm, gritty realistic, but not without a weird humor sometimes. The first tome (~600 chapters) is completed.
Defiance of the Fall, there's the audiobook too.

If you get this one, it's actually a deal on Amazon US right now for $2.99 for the Kindle edition, then you can buy the audiobook for $11.99 whispersync deal. I remembered seeing it on the /r/ebookdeals subreddit earlier today. Depending on how much you pay for your credits (and whether you have any interest in the Kindle edition too), this could be a good deal.
**They Mostly Come Out At Night** is a folklore-inspired dark fantasy, set in the mysterious forest of the Magpie King.

Here's the US Amazon link, but the book is free today on all Amazon stores:

>your link didnt work for me for some reason, here is the same link, but to amazon smile for those that have a preferred charity they want donated to.
I'll add a couple more recommendations to this thread:
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer: A LitRPG Adventure by Benjamin Kerei. The protagonist has a history before arriving in a new world, and it shapes his decisions as he tries his hardest to avoid his fated profession of farmer.
Threadbare by Andrew Sieple. I recommend this novel a lot, as it's one my favorites in the genre. The protagonist is a teddy bear golem, but the adventure he goes on is anything but childish. Seriously, this is great LitRPG, and worth the read.
Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaić.
I'm not done with it yet, but the main characters starts below average and progresses through a very detailed and intricate magic system.
It's like Harry Potter (the school bits) + Groundhog Day + detailed and deep magic system and worldbuilding
On the Chinese written side, Lord of the Mysteries probably.

> With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears? > > Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, difference machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts… > > The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world—both orthodox and unorthodox—while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions. > > Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0—a number of unlimited potential—this is the legend of "The Fool."
Coiling Dragon is also a common first novel though honestly the prose is somewhat pedestrian.

The best time loop story I read is a completed original called Mother of Learning https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/21220/mother-of-learning
If you want to support the author it’s available on Amazon as an audiobook as well https://www.amazon.com/Mother-Learning-ARC-1-nobody103-ebook/dp/B09M2R6QLF
Oh Great, I Was Reincarnated as a Farmer So far 2 books in the series, both great reads.
So Mother of Learning had a Kickstarter run by Wraithmarked, is it still a web serial/self-pub or is it now published by an indie publisher? Amazon's page says published by Wraithmarked, but only 1 part (out of an eventual 4, the last part will be split into 2) is published by them so far, the rest is only available as a web serial still.
FWIW if it were up to me I'd say it's no longer self-pub but I'd be sad about it cos I really want to include it on my list haha.
Mother of Learning defines it as a difference of magical tradition.
Witches are more like midwives who can do their job anywhere and have a good knowledge of home remedies vs Mages who are more like OBGYNs: years of school, licensure, and relies on tools that require tons of infrastructure to produce.
Also the Witches in that series are matrilineal and believe magic only passes through the womb. Boys can’t pass on the bloodline.
You might try going old school and reading something like Coiling Dragon. It's one of, if not the, story that popularized xianxia in the west, and the main character has a long arc of growing ever more powerful.
I loved that series so much.
>! I love the fact that the main character was a monk doing ki strikes using a wooden sword the whole time!<
So yes. Final Fantasy was absolutely based on d&d To the point that the serial numbers were barely filed off. Puttings have become flans mind flayer’s have become mind flares and so on. So Final fantasy is my favorite D&D video game series not called that.
My favorite series I would say not suspiciously but clearly in proudly and almost openly based on D&D is The world of prime series by MC plank
So the author is a published RPG author also. They have published a campaign setting a very similar to the setting of the novel but not quite identical. So basically the novels are set in the world where someone from our world gets transported to a fantasy world.
This world is governed by rules very similar to classic dungeons and dragons tropes but the entire world is shaped by them. So for instance experience points are real they mean something it is a matter of life and death who gets them. And it’s not just monsters who give them. Feudalism is based on getting experience points from the literal corpses of your subjects. Good people wait until the subjects are dead and then they claim their due. Evil alignments people come up with excuses to kill their subjects or just do it. .
Alignment isn’t just a changeable moral outlook although it is it’s also a Cosmic agreement as to what will happen to the universe at the end of time. That’s why Gods care. Your alignment at the time of death is your vote.
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer: A LitRPG Adventure: (Unorthodox Farming) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094CSB51K/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_8N366624PM85K1Z7XH3S
The second book in the series just came out, and it's quite fun. Comedic but with good worldbuilding.
The Primal Hunter I follow this on RR. It has no sex scenes but much that would not be included in a book intended for juveniles. I would guess the same could be said for other books that are often compared to "The Primal Hunter:".
time loop stories are rather similar, altho i dont know many, especially translated ones.
a western one that i loved & thats popular is called 'mother of learning' by nobody103 & you can find it on royal road and kindle unlimited. the MC repeats the same few weeks for probably hundreds of times, and while he doesnt have nearly as much regression depression as YJH, he has plenty lol
If you like that idea, you will also like this. Both are quite good. In the case of this second link, the MC isekais to an RPG universe, and is excited about it, only to learn that he has gotten the main class of "farmer," and must get to level 100 before he can do the fun stuff. He wants none of that, and shenanigans ensue.
This one isn't as much slice of life as it sounds (more like involuntary slice of life), and instead involves the MC exploiting the Eff out of things on his way to having the life he really wants.
