Literally the base of every single meal I eat. Add canned chicken, Rotel, and Valentina hot sauce and you have a Mexican meal. Do tuna, kimchi, and sriracha and you have a Southeast Asian meal.

Both options are a million times better if you already have a spice stash handy. If not, you can buy those premade seasoning packets on Amazon in something like taco or chow mein flavor or something.

Buy better rice. I can't stress this enough. You can seriously taste the difference.

I find Nishiki rice (https://www.amazon.com/Nishiki-Premium-Sushi-Rice-LB/dp/B0001DMT1E) to be really good for a variety of uses. It's super starchy, so you have to wash it a bunch for the water to run clear, but if you want starchy rice, it's excellent.

I used a medium grain Nishiki rice with Red Star premier rouge

Look into food pantries in the area as well, look into doing odd jobs, stuff like Neevo.ai, Prolific.co and other r/beermoney sites to get side money for food and licenses. See if there’s any apps that are worth more in gain than cost. Rideshare apps and food delivery apps are less gain (Especially with rising gas prices!), all they do is give you “stable income” to report when apartment searching. Things like Wag and babysitting services are higher paying, but more physically taxing. You’re being proactive, keep being proactive. Apply directly through company sites. Also, do you have renters insurance? The caved in ceiling also most likely goes against your lease, so if you need to fight, fight.

For food, get yourself some bread, peanut butter, baby carrots, spinach, rice, teriyaki sauce, and butter (If you know any places you can get free butter at, cut that cost... Cafeterias/cafes). Various spices if you have them already or you can get them anywhere like paprika and ginger. Keep taking your vitamins, but that banana powder combo sounds miserable.

I use a big mortar as a pot for water and steam in a bamboo cone with a lid from from another pot.

In addition to sweet desserts, sticky rice is used as an appetizer (rolled into little footballs and dipped) and as a foundation for thick stews.

I've used their Rice, Pasta, and Spaghetti, and it works pretty well. I have to drain it, then pan-fry it a few minutes to both warm it up and get some of the extra moisture out, but once I've done that, it works well in place of pasta in most places. Also works great for stuffed peppers.

That will last you like two weeks. In that time you can get other ingredients and make it even better. It doesn't take long to make. 10-20 minutes and boom done. In the time you're standing in line at Walmart I already have a meal ready.

Actually I have factored that in. If you are paying $15/week for rice then stop shopping there. It only took me 30 seconds to find rice for $8.56/week online. Food deserts and transportation don't really matter when it can be delivered to your front door for free.

Your local Fred Meyer has rice for $8.64/week. Possibly less. I only checked the 1st page of results.

Have in the past, but not this time. I used a medium grain rice and the texture more closely mimicked that of the fried rice I get at restaurants.

I can certainly relate to the idea that if there is rice there is a meal. When I was a teenager I did most of the cooking for my family. A couple of times I was lazy and didn’t make rice for dinner. My brothers would sit at the table and first thing ask, “Where’s the rice?”
