I keep them in a well-ventilated open room but the kit was rusted out of the box when I got it, I just didn't notice when I got them because I was too excited. But the brand is Gammon Percussion! And it turned out to be my favorite cowbell I've ever owned. Nice and solid, mid to high tone with quick decay, looks nice, hits nice

I have a cajon that doubles as a nightstand, extra chair, foot stool for reaching high things. Then every once in a while I remember its a drum and jam out! Good purchase.

So I think I know what you're after, and These might do the trick. Trashy, white noise open sound, very defined click when shut.
