The other thing we got was a magnetic board that is also erase marker. It came with all kinds of magnetic letters. Usually I make a simple word, he writes it and pronounces it. We play it like a game.
I guess it depends on where he's getting stuck. Is it individual words? IE, does he have trouble seeing C-A-T and saying "cat"? One issue I've seen at that level is trouble blending the first two letters. They'll say "Cuh-Aa-Tuh" instead of "cat." One thing that sometimes helps is blending the first two letters together before approaching the third - "Cuh" -> "Cuh-Aa" -> "Ca" -> "CaTuh" -> "Cat."
If he can read some words but has trouble with books, then try simple beginner reader books. The libraries around here have this series, which I think is great (some are a lot harder than others, though). Amazon has some similar ones, like this (I didn't like these as much, but they're decent).
Keep in mind that different fonts can trip up early readers (for instance, having the "a" with a hood, or the "g" that has a circle at the bottom", and a lot of kids books can be pretty difficult to read.

your reading and comprehension is F minus dude. my suggestion was race stock mini b/t R2R. the outlaw austin group does this kind of shit, lots of clubs run stock slash, etc. this isnt an advanced concept. you just happened to ask what building a pro roller kit cost, which a) was not relevant to running stock classes and b) i just happened to be able to answer because i just built one. i think you just cant see the forest for the trees because you are hell bent on spending money to win instead of reading and comprehension.

I bought the pre readers and didn’t like them. This set is great. The first 4 are super easy and build confidence. The next 4 were just right and the last 4 are challenging for her.
My daughter has been semi reading for a while but never whole sentences or sounding out words. Just kind of knew some words or memorized stuff. This set has her sounding it out and reading without much help from me. Great for building confidence and independence
Side note. I realized I also learned to read with these books.
Maybe give him this book for guidance
