Thanks for sharing, this is a great deal for any Kindle users who don't have this book yet, or if you just want to have a digital copy. (If you don't have a Kindle device you can just download the Amazon Kindle app and read on your own phone or tablet.)

The Erogamer on QQ is probably the best story in that genre that I've read.
Something that borrows some of the elements is Threadbare, by Andrew Seiple, which was first posted as a web serial on SV. Not exactly rationalist, but still a fun read.
A book you want is The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.

Nothing really epic happens in this book, which is what makes it so good. It just follows the crew of a ship that (best way to describe it) plots hyperspace routes on an adventure to plot a route further than anyone has gone before. Again, this is less full of sci-fi tropes and more character interaction. I recommend it to anyone. Also, it is a civilian ship, so no military.

I liked Firefly, and I liked this, they are different, but have lots of similarities.
Threadbare by Andrew Seiple is a story that follows the growth of a stuffed bear golem. It’s one of the best litrpgs out there, IMO.
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is $1.99 on Amazon kindle right now. I picked it up the other day and binged thru it...someday I'll learn not to start reading a book at 1030 when I have to work the next day...lol. It was well worth the price, I enjoyed it and will probably get the next one too
Just thinking about it and re-reading your post, have you looked at Charles Stross's Laundry Files? If you liked The Dresden Files these may be right up your alley...
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer
I recommend Threadbare which is a series of three books and about ~320K words. Completed and on Amazon, also available on SpaceBattles and Sufficient Velocity.
I'd like to put foward Threadbare as an example of a general LitRPG done excellently.
The german book prices of game of thrones.
It is absolute ridiculous. Via the german Amazon you can order the english box set with all books for around 26€.
All translated books will cost you around 120€.
When doing Amazon links, you only need the "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G4MX1Z4/" portion. The key being the dp/ and the book ID B0 whatever.
Can save some posts a bit of space. Authors should keep this in mind too when linking their stuff places.
I'm glad to see they didn't go KU. That saves confusion when reading the web serial. Though I do hope they don't run into issues using a bunch of the copyrighted and trademarked references to modern companies and songs. It's a fine grey line.
I think this series is very underrated. It has an element of Lit Rpg but it's a small part of the story. It actually gets left out for a couple books because of reasons. It's something the character has but doesn't rely on.
Reminds me of that Threadbare book.
I'll add a couple more recommendations to this thread:
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer: A LitRPG Adventure by Benjamin Kerei. The protagonist has a history before arriving in a new world, and it shapes his decisions as he tries his hardest to avoid his fated profession of farmer.
Threadbare by Andrew Sieple. I recommend this novel a lot, as it's one my favorites in the genre. The protagonist is a teddy bear golem, but the adventure he goes on is anything but childish. Seriously, this is great LitRPG, and worth the read.
Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaić.
I'm not done with it yet, but the main characters starts below average and progresses through a very detailed and intricate magic system.
It's like Harry Potter (the school bits) + Groundhog Day + detailed and deep magic system and worldbuilding
The best time loop story I read is a completed original called Mother of Learning https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/21220/mother-of-learning
If you want to support the author it’s available on Amazon as an audiobook as well https://www.amazon.com/Mother-Learning-ARC-1-nobody103-ebook/dp/B09M2R6QLF
Oh Great, I Was Reincarnated as a Farmer So far 2 books in the series, both great reads.
So Mother of Learning had a Kickstarter run by Wraithmarked, is it still a web serial/self-pub or is it now published by an indie publisher? Amazon's page says published by Wraithmarked, but only 1 part (out of an eventual 4, the last part will be split into 2) is published by them so far, the rest is only available as a web serial still.
FWIW if it were up to me I'd say it's no longer self-pub but I'd be sad about it cos I really want to include it on my list haha.
Makes sense. I'd check with Main street Books/Second Flight. They're (now) owned by the same folks, so they probably have a good line on any book clubs.
If you want a good "entry" book to SF/fantasy, check out Becky Chambers - specifically, the Wayfarer series. Here's a link to the first one. They're very wholesome, lovely books. There's not exactly romance in them, but in her books, everyone is doing their best and nobody wants to hurt anyone else.
Besides Chambers, there's a decent number of SF/fantasy books that are also thrillers, mysteries, and romance! I think the book club just read Project Hail Mary, which was definitely thriller-esque.
Mother of Learning defines it as a difference of magical tradition.
Witches are more like midwives who can do their job anywhere and have a good knowledge of home remedies vs Mages who are more like OBGYNs: years of school, licensure, and relies on tools that require tons of infrastructure to produce.
Also the Witches in that series are matrilineal and believe magic only passes through the womb. Boys can’t pass on the bloodline.
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer: A LitRPG Adventure: (Unorthodox Farming) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094CSB51K/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_8N366624PM85K1Z7XH3S
The second book in the series just came out, and it's quite fun. Comedic but with good worldbuilding.
time loop stories are rather similar, altho i dont know many, especially translated ones.
a western one that i loved & thats popular is called 'mother of learning' by nobody103 & you can find it on royal road and kindle unlimited. the MC repeats the same few weeks for probably hundreds of times, and while he doesnt have nearly as much regression depression as YJH, he has plenty lol
If you like that idea, you will also like this. Both are quite good. In the case of this second link, the MC isekais to an RPG universe, and is excited about it, only to learn that he has gotten the main class of "farmer," and must get to level 100 before he can do the fun stuff. He wants none of that, and shenanigans ensue.
This one isn't as much slice of life as it sounds (more like involuntary slice of life), and instead involves the MC exploiting the Eff out of things on his way to having the life he really wants.
I hate it when people post screenshots that show me only what they want me to see.
It has over 7200 reviews and 4.4 stars.
Stop going out of your way to be offended. JFC.
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer might fit that bill, the MC is assigned the farmer class, and cannot gain experience by traditional monster hunting, so comes up with... non-traditional methods of farming (involving lots of crafting) to exploit the system.
So, socialism was created in the 19th century to serve as a justification for russian imperialism ?
By allowing ... *check notes* ... a revolution that ended the Russian Empire ?
All of that so that later after the fall of the Soviet Union a capitalist named Putin could use not socialism but anti nazism as an excuse to invade Ukraine ?
That's why I don't like most time travel stories, almost every time the plot lines ends up becoming totally incoherent by the end. /s
(joke aside, if someone wants to read a complete Fantasy story focused on a time loop, I recommand "Mother of Learning", available for free at https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/21220/mother-of-learning, but arc 1 is also available on amazon if you want to support the author: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09M2R6QLF)
Mother of learning was recently offered on the kindle unlimited, and its one of the best series I've ever read, far better than even the top end of published fare.
>Other than the audible comments section there's no one that has anything to say about the books.
You sure? Because the first review you see when you check the first book on Amazon is this:
>Main character is an Idiot
>
>I loved the writers world, the people are vibrant and interesting, the how and why was a bit vague, but the absolute killer was the main character was possibly one of the worst characters I've ever read. She's saved by miracles no less than 4 times before you're 30% of the way through the novel, she's brought to the brink of death 2 of those 4 times in the EXACT same manner both times created by her actions, the 4th time she gets miracled she ends up getting one of her 3 friends killed (who happens to be the Queen’s champion on a mission to bring his people into an era of social cooperation with other races (quite a noble character but alas he was doomed once he met the Inkeeper), alienates the other one, gets herself banished from town, causes the local militia to stop protecting the country side, and for what reason? She's trying to convince the world that her way (or her complete inability to learn from her mistakes) is the way that will save the world (or at least her inn, which she doesn't stay more than a 1 hour walk from). If someone wants a bleeding heart left-wing woe is me I'm the victim because the world just doesn't understand snowflake as a primary character in a book please by all means pick this one up you'll love it.
1/5 stars. Out of first five reviews three of them are 1/5 stars. That's plenty of negative to me.
Several months ago someone rec'd Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer. I'm going to re-rec it now.
The MC gets isekai'd into a LitRPG world, but gets stuck as a farmer and is desperate to get into any other class; however, he can only choose a new class upon reaching level 100, which is uncommon to do in a lifetime.
The story does a great job building a world where incarnates from other worlds are common and exploitationists are a known class (So much of the low hanging fruit has been picked) while still giving room (and reasonable explanation) for the Main Character to find new exploits.
The worldbuilding balances between "Exactly as horrid as a physics-enforced monarchy and grindfest would be" and "Hey cool, a world that's a game", with a lot of cool little details. Killing a member of your own species makes you go feral, so while Humans have little warfare, inter-species cooperation is much harder. Humans get magic from farming as a base, while Orcs get it from fighting, and also spend the the earliest parts of their life as non-sentient and bloodlusted and have to level before they're consciousness enough to stop fighting and join proper Orc society; There's thus a clear conflict of interest in geopolitical relations.
I'd buy the entire collection of the three novellas released so far. It's titled, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms."
It's VERY worth it, I'd argue.
Imagine the other books of A Song of Ice and Fire, but more "fun."
Solid list.
Queen in the Mud should definitely be on there as well.
Doll Dungeon is pretty good as well. She's mostly concerned with growing stronger. Although does occasionally comment on how attractive someone is, they're off-handed remarks that don't affect the story or her decisions.
