This is a great simple pattern!
If anyone else is interested in exploring zero-waste style further, here is a great book as a resource. I will say some of the designs get crazy, but the creativity in the pattern making is amazing.
Zero Waste Fashion Design
Leathercraft seems to be more of a solitary hobby and not so much an apprentice hobby. I am a beginner as well and just started by getting a $6 book on amazon and using old pieces of clothing leather - belts, shoes, purses - to practice stamping, cutting and punching. I don't even have any real tools yet, just things around the house. I was warned not to buy lots of stuff until I actually run into a design problem that a specific tool would solve....like cutting a super straight line without waves or frayed edges.
There are professional ways and means to copy garments. Claire Sheaffer's book "High Fashion Sewing Secrets From the World's Best Designers" has a chapter on how this is done. It's an oldie (and a goodie!) and should be available on Amazon. Yes , it is! https://www.amazon.ca/Fashion-Sewing-Secrets-Worlds-Designers/dp/1579544150/ref=pd_sbs_14_10?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1579544150&pd_rd_r=35a7ff71-7152-11e9-88ae-891106fe0638&pd_rd_w=5ZWsG&pd_rd_wg=DvgdJ&pf_rd_p=5dcda75b-8643-4da3-9bb1-5c0233790500&pf_rd_r=3XCBGDYGENZN5DBSWS7G&psc=1&refRID=3XCBGDYGENZN5DBSWS7G

Authentic Victorian Dressmaking: This is a re-issue of Butterick's Dressmaking, Up to Date which was published in 1905. This book describes techniques used in dressmaking as well as creating patterns and altering clothing. This was the guide for home dressmakers at the time.

I think you need this book The Steampunk User's Manual: An Illustrated Practical and Whimsical Guide to Creating Retro-futurist Dreams https://www.amazon.com/dp/1419708988/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_eHtuFb43Q88NP. On my list for 15 bucks I would love the Harry and Megan Funkos. She is a history maker!!
