Ankle gout sufferer here. Lots of experience with pain.
I've been in a similar situation and I know how bad it can get but stay strong.
I am not a doctor but here is why I do when I get a bad gout flare in either ankle (again not a doctor but I find this helps me):
I'll sit on the edge of the tub and run hot water over my ankle for a few minutes. I find it helps relieve the pain, if only while the hot water hits it. I stopped using ice because I felt it prolonged my flares. Be mindful not to run water over your skin too hot though.
-CAM Walking Boot.
Anyone who suffers from ankle gout should have a compression boot and cane on standby imo. Here is an example...
This helps me get around the house but I also find compression helps with pain as well. I also recommend wearing a boot or high top sneaker on your other foot to compensate for your gait while using a CAM walker (helps prevent hip pain).
-Colchicine.
If you're in full flare it's too late but I recommend a prescription as a precaution if your doctor feels it'd appropriate.
I will take a pill if I feel a flare coming on or eat risky food (example: rare night of BBQ or drinking). Uric acid reducing medication is the most important of course but I consider this an emergency option and use them sparingly.
Hope this helps.
This is the boot unused, I liked it a lot (even though the air pump feature broke almost immediately). I’m also a dude in my 40s and 5’10 about 180 lbs, but looking at it I think it would work fine with any average size adult (maybe not someone who is very very petite or very large).

You might think it’s gross, being a used foot ware product, but I’m done with it and will happily ship it to you if you want it.
I've done all of it! I've been in tears cause the pain has been so unbearable. He recommended that I try the sleeping boot, even if I just wear it while I watch a movie of I can't sleep with it one. We looked together on Amazon and this is one Is picked. The reviews seems very hopeful I can't wait for it to arrive!

This one was pretty solid. I WFH and wear it around the house and even during my indoor boxing and weight training workouts. Never wore it outside though.
I got mine long ago, but it looks very similar to this one:

I broke my ankle on Saturday. I also sprained it on the opposite side and on the top of my foot. The broken side doesn't look any different than the sprained side so it would be impossible for us to know if you broke, fractured, or sprained it. My foot does look similar to yours.
That being said, I was giventhis boot and crutches. Doctor's orders were to elevate and ice at least 3 times a day until swelling goes down. Only weight bare once it's no longer painful, and use crutches for 4 weeks and boot for 6 weeks.
I have a grade 4a stress reaction in my lower tibia, they put me in a full length boot to wear while walking around. this is the boot they recommended Amazon link for boot
I wore a boot (aka Aircast or CAM) with my ankle injury. I found the actual Aircast brand to be quite affordable and actually a lot less out of pocket cost then if I would have gotten it through my insurance. I hadn’t yet met my deductible, but even if I had - the equipment company markup was such that the co-insurance would have exceeded the Amazon purchase price.
This is the one I used. It helped stabilize my ankle as well:

Any thoughts on what you might use?
Sorry for delayed reply! I have broken a few bones as has almost everyone in my family (we're pretty outdoorsy and we come from a line of farmers on one side, numerous vectors for injury - plus I have some weird health issues that made me more susceptible). I ended up being less tentative with post-cast walking than I thought I would be. At first, yes, but it goes away pretty quickly -- though you'll likely be a bit more conscious of where and you're walking for a while after. But as for trepidation, it was definitely something that was not as bad as I feared before it happened.
Do they have you in a walking cast/compression boot, like one of these? I got one with my break which was in a pretty much the same location/situation as yours and it got me off of the annoying and unwieldy crutches and eased me into walking. The key with them is finding a shoe for the other foot with the right heel height to keep your hips fairly even when standing in the boot (I found a 1.5-2" heel on the other foot was about right for me).
Dude, here is the boot: https://www.amazon.com/Aircast-AirSelect-Standard-Walker-Walking/dp/B00ZL32IGA/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1511565057&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=aircast&psc=1

Protip if you don't want the kids to get your ugly ass toenail fungus you never get around to cure (as it takes applying curative lacquer twice weak and who does not forget that), wear something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Large-Verruca-Protection-Swimming-Sock/dp/B0038IO4AS

I used this exact boot. You have to order the correct size for your foot size.
Thanks on the username, lol. The shoes are true to size, plus they come in wide widths. My true foot size (atleast before the accident) is 8 wide, but I usually purchased 9s for the extra space. I bought these shoes in an 8.5 wide. Due to occassional swelling I went up half a size, but I could've done the 8 wide. They feel great on their own, but even better with an orthotic insert. I feel like we're in the same boat. Will we ever wear normal shoes again! Good luck!
Also, I ended up buying this:
I use this occasionally for really bad days of if I have an huge amount of walking to do. It's the least obtrusive boot I've found. Bootcut jeans will even fit over it and most time people actually don't notice if they're not paying attention.
