My dad and brother hunt in remote areas a lot and they both swear by this - Garmin inReach Mini, Lightweight Compact Handheld Satellite Communicator, Orange https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CR7PL54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_oS52BbNZ32RYC
Gives mom some peace of mind because she can check in and gives them peace of mind they can signal an emergency if needed. Good for your kid because they can’t call china!
As others have said, WiFi only iPads do not have a built in gps. You have a few options... you can either get the cellular pad (you do not have to activate a data plan) and have the built-in gps, or you can find an external gps off Amazon.
Many of the external GPS’s are advertised for general aviation because us pilots like to use them for our flight materials. I personally recommended Dual GPS and can attest to using it several times successfully for Pokémon Go (also using a hotspot if you have no data plan). Another good option is bad elf. I personally like dual because it is Bluetooth and cross-compatible with other devices. Bad elf locks you in because it plugs directly into the device, which blocks the port, but you don’t have to worry about recharging it.
Heads up, the Garmin FR 935 is on sale on Amazon for $399, which is $100 off. The price was $415 yesterday and $409 this morning. No idea how long this will last, so jump on it if you want one!
I used Navionics on an iPad, and a chart plotter with embedded GPS (no antenna to hook up). With the combination, I felt I had redundancy and reliability. Sometimes one would be more accurate than the other, but all in all it was sufficient to get me where I wanted to go.
Check out the power draw of smaller chart plotters. It was never a cause of strain with our solar panels and house bank.
With the iPad, we used a GPS puck plugged into a USB power source. This is the puck we used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006M49G80/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glc_fabc_X1PHB8KX24PYAJP4KXRC
We kept the puck charging while the sun was out or we were motoring. As with the chart plotter, the draw was small enough to not be a problem.
Here is the listing on Amazon for that model I purchased https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Electronics-XGPS150A-Multipurpose-Augmentation/dp/B006M49G80/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1530928300&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dual+bluetooth+gps+receiver
For a little more you can get other brands and models that also support GLONASS, Galileo, etc.
I have a brand new in the box Garmin Instinct. Garmin sent this to me as a warranty replacement and I upgraded to a Fenix. This is the exact model: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HYX9P88
The box is still sealed from the factory. I'm in the USA, will pay USPS, $150. Paypal or Zelle, buyer pays the fee.
I have bought 20+ different straps over the past few years for my Fenix 5 and 6. I have used Garmin silicones, various knock-off silicones, a few Nick Mankey bands, a few leather bands off Amazon, and probably others I can’t remember. I wear my Fenix 24x7 and take it off only to charge. I currently am wearing it for everyday office work, house & yard work, and paddle boarding; but have worn it in the past while running, MTB & road biking, swimming, hiking, and weight lifting. My favorite bands are the titanium band that came with the Fenix 6 and this nylon band I got from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B092Q6KJ5D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I like the titanium because I can wear it in the shower or paddle boarding and don’t have to worry about it being saturated with water but the nylon one is more comfortable but it takes a bit of time to dry.
Agree! Saw someone post a big list of different 3rd party straps with reviews on another thread, but I ended up going with these. Perfect fit, looks good, way more comfortable, inexpensive.
I have this one and it's been good for me so far! Not sure if it's available by you, however. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098J57KRT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Wash after every workout and try letting it breathe a little, you may be wearing it too tight. If you do this while it's wet, your skin never gets a chance to dry, so always being damp can cause a rash.
Also, try a nylon strap. This is what I use in my f7.
Also, especially on a new watch, contact Garmin. They have been known to send people free nylon, leather, or metal straps.
I like the Watch Steward bands, have one on my Epix right now, but these 2 are more like the Enduro band and work very well.

I use this and guru pro. I do download the maps before hand but it works very well. I can have absolutely no cell service in the mountains and this will still work. I use guru pro with out the gps receiver on my dirt bike and it always seems to know where I’m at even without cell service. The receiver sits very well on my ics dash mount without moving in the silicone sleeve
I'm not familiar with the Whoop band, but after looking it up, this hook and loop band might fulfill your need. I have it for my Fenix 6s and find it to be super comfortable. Just be aware it's a bit smaller than the stock band - it's perfect for my tiny wrist, but is probably way too small for others.
I got one recently from Canadian Tire (Non Tactical version because I don’t see me using NVGs or diving anytime soon) for about 250. Amazon has it for 218.99 here and CT was able to price match with it.
I have an older Garmin Bluetooth Glo 2 receiver that works well. Another option is something like this -
https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Electronics-XGPS150A-Multipurpose-Augmentation/dp/B006M49G80
Bad Elf makes excellent units but they are pricier.
Wrote it earlier in another thread, will just paste here
I actually bought another one during prime day sale
So I have three now. First purchase was the double black and green bundle.
I change every three days (3workouts and runs ) And wash hang it to dry

This one works great: https://www.amazon.com/Abanen-Ultralight-Wristband-Sapphire-Instinct/dp/B092Q6KJ5D/. It has a different brand name in other countries, but it’s all the same product. Very cheap, very durable and you can get an exact fit, which is more difficult with the expensive nylon straps from Garmin.

They really awesome, I had an apple watch in between the 935 and 955 and I missed this style band
I have Nick Mankey bands (which are great) but my current band is this:
Abanen Hook and Loop Quick Dry Watch Band for Fenix 6/ Fenix 5/ Fenix 7/EPIX 2, 22mm Woven Nylon Ultralight Sport Wristband Strap for Garmin Fenix 6 Pro/Sapphire,Instinct,Fenix 5 Plus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092Q6KJ5D/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_GCV0KMH8F8K4VM8YPR5F
Very comfortable. I only wish it came in more colors.
Thanks so much for the reply. Honestly wasn't super interested is the forerunner series it just looked like a great deal. I'm also super new to the watch game so don't know much about them. After some research the instinct seems perfect for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HYX9P88
Does these seem like a fair price to you too considering this is also an old watch? I also see one on Walmart for 169.00 usd

I have this one. It is not a quick fit band, but it does attach to the watch using the quick fit bars.
It is by far the best watch band I have ever used and the infinite adjustability is a big part of that.
my watch broke last week and im finally buying my first smart watch, I'm sold on garmin but the amount of selection is intimidating. I like the instinct (1) and forerunner 55 looks good too. all I is good health tracking and NEEDS to be water proof as i work full time in a water park. looking to pay somewhere around $200 maybe this? https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Instinct-Features-Monitoring-Graphite/dp/B07HYX9P88/ref=pd_vtp_sccl_2_6/140-0028480-4529712?pd_rd_w=gwkLI&pf_rd_p=fbd780d7-2160-4d39-bb8e-6a364d83fb2c&pf_rd_r=AFFTV4ZBRF48JWGHXDQA&pd_rd_r=34df2dad-aee3-4506-ac5e-26ad0c9eabb4&pd_rd_wg=1kqte&pd_rd_i=B07HYX9P88&psc=1

Garmin doesn’t make a oem band that fits a regular 6. The one they do sell fits a 6x as it’s originally for the Enduro. These are the ones I went with because there was no clips(hardware) that wasn’t garmins could fail. Abanen Hook and Loop Quick Dry Watch Band for Fenix 6/ Fenix 5/ Fenix 7/EPIX 2, 22mm Woven Nylon Ultralight Sport Wristband Strap for Garmin Fenix 6 Pro/Sapphire,Instinct,Fenix 5 Plus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09G68LMB3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B47PTK1X4ZCJ2GA79R14?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have a 6x and with a regular silicone watch band(not the factory one) i found sleeping with the 6x a little annoying until i recently changed to an Abanen nylon hook and loop band and now I don't even feel the watch on when I sleep now. been wearing it to bed now for a week straight. the nylon is super soft and conforms to your wrist. I found when wearing the silicone band that the watch would hurt and annoy the sides of my wrist if it moved on my wrist at all.
