Nice man, reminds me of a particular artists work, you should check him out, he goes by Slinkachu. I will link one of his books that I have: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-People-City-Slinkachu-foreword/dp/0752226649
Stefano Bloch. If anyone is interested he came out with a wild autobiography recently about his tagging days which I found riveting: Going All City
It's really hard to get, but Flip the Script is THE handstyle bible

Piece by Piece (SF), Sly Artistic City (Philly) are both must watch movies on youtube
Some here argue that it is a bad idea to teach this kids graffiti cause it can potentially get them into trouble - I don't agree with that perspective. I've done some graffiti lessons/workshops with the same target group and in general work a lot with kids from more or less traumatic backgrounds in "high risk areas" and I must say that in my experience most young are lost to substance abuse and a broken educational system. Actually I found that most kids learning graffiti use it as a positive outlet and many end up building adult working lives around this e.g. As tattoo artist or costum painters. We will if cause loose some - realistically most, but we must try our best to give them as many different tools as possible - graffiti beeing one, in effort to give the youth a fighting chance in a crooked society.
Anyway, a nice starting tool for you could be the book "graffiti school - a students guide and teacher manual". I've used it a few times for my longer graffiti courses. You only need to get one book and then just photocopy the many assignment pages. Hours of fun and learning.
my favorite resource is this: https://www.amazon.com/Flip-Script-Christian-P-Acker/dp/1584234601
i guess they stopped printing it because its 500 bucks for a hard copy, but see if you can find a pdf maybe online. it has hundreds of styles from all over in alphabet form, along with some thoughts from prolific writers as well as style progression.
"style" is something that evolves over time. it wont happen after doing 3 pages of tags. more like 300 pages. one thing that happens as you practice is that the letters become "tighter," or technically the kerning of the letters remove the unnecessary space and help create that flow that writers look to generally achieve.
For those that appreciate subway art, I highly recommend this book that has since been updated from it's first publication.
seems like LA has so few murals to me! But then I remember that where I came from is like the most murals ever and there are mural tours and shit. My mom even wrote an essay for this book. Anyway the point is: murals are great. But that one is creepy and homely to my eye.
Japan is actually known for their manhole art! I read this book about it from my library. http://www.amazon.com/Drainspotting-Japanese-Manhole-Remo-Camerota/dp/0982075472/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352252611&sr=8-1&keywords=japanese+manhole+art
Don't know if this book will tell you how, but it definitely has some cool pictures.
Hopefully, sundogdayze can get some cheap prices from the printer. But if we go with Blurb my vote is on the 8" x 10" Portrait softcover.
In my head, I have this turning out sort of like Banksy's Wall and Piece.
