That's because you're looking for the wrong thing. What you had (I think) and should be looking for is a ceramic ginger grater.

Absolute best kitchen utensil I've ever owned. Grate parmesan, grate garlic, ginger, whole spices, zest lemons and limes... Totally worth it for <$20
first use a larger chunk of cheese. second I quit using mine for that reason. I now use this (Much Safer)

I have this ginger grater and I use it A LOT! I also couldn’t live without my immersion blender.

Food processors usually have a grater attachment that can be used for cheeses, carrots, etc.
If that's not quite your style, there are also hand-cranked rotary graters like this one.
I got mine from Amazon recently and it's made by a company called Kitchen Supreme. It was $15 and I've used it a few times. I absolutely love it! It came with a nice storage bag and a cleaning brush. They also threw in a cook book and they personally emailed me some extra recipes and a letter to thank me for my purchase. I thought that was a nice touch! It will eventually dull, so it's not truly a buy it for life, but it will last quite some time and is inexpensive. I've had mine for 10 years and never had to do anything but keep it clean.
I cook fairly often, and use it primarily for garlic, cheese, and zesting citrus (primarily grapefruit and lime).
Is a zester the same thing? I actually just received this as a gift for the holidays. https://www.amazon.com/Deiss-Citrus-Zester-Cheese-Grater/dp/B0738C7RXF/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=zester&qid=1611872625&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyUjFZSFlDSlRSQ001JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDkzMjYzMjcx...
No but I found a handheld unit on amazon for 15 bucks that's very compact.
For example, I wanted to purchase a Microplane Zester/Grater and some of the reviews suggest that some of the products received were fakes/knockoffs, even though purchased directly from amazon and not from a shady reseller. Similar cases for other kitchen/household products.
I always thought amazon would check the products in their warehouses since they are working with companies/suppliers directly, but it seems that is not always the case.
No problem. Here are my notes regarding the recipe I linked to:
Get a microplane zester off of Amazon if you don't already have one. It will take awhile to zest but just go slow and be patient. I normally have an old episode of the Simpsons or an audiobook/podcast or something on in the background so I don't get bored.
Do not filter the alcohol. It's unnecessary if you start with good alcohol (see below).
If you're in the US, then I recommend 75% ABV Everclear. If you're in Europe then I recommend Wratislavia Spirytus or Polmos Spirytus 95% ABV alcohol mixed with Sobieski or Wyborowa 40% ABV vodka. You want the end result to be 75% ABV, so:
Get the finest mesh (25-100 micron) you can possibly get for your final filtration step. I do not recommend coffee filters as they are easily gummed up. Something like this, although a bit larger. A thing worth doing is worth doing right and home made booze looks a lot nicer if there aren't bits floating in it.
Ginger is one of the few "natural medicines" that actually works; it always fixes my nausea/low appetite. Just buy a "hand" of fresh ginger at the grocery store and grate it into tea or water. I use a microplane, which IMO is an essential kitchen tool.
P.S. cinnamon is also effective at boosting appetite. The fresher the better. If you buy a big bag of cinnamon sticks like off of Amazon, you can grind it yourself
I just ordered one from amazon. $11 and it will be deliveref tommorow. Im excited!

What you describe sounds like a microplane grater, although these are sometimes labelled as zesters, to confuse people evidently because a true zester looks and functions nothing like a microplane grater.
I use mine to finely grate whole nutmeg over my fettuccine alfredo. Also for cinnamon; any whole spice really.
You don’t want to loose too fast imo. 2 or 3 lbs a week sustained is better. I did this by cutting out white stuff completely. White bread, white pasta, white sugar, etc. Eating lots of salad. Using spiralized vegetables instead of pasta https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Handheld-Spiralizer-Green/dp/B013KAW5IQ and drinking broth and eating soups. Try cabbage pancakes and healthy coleslaws. Rice cakes or dark rye and pumpernickel bread. Oatmeal, brown rice or congee. No low-fat products because they contain extra carbs and sugar which increases appetite. No sweet drinks that increase appetite. Bitter black tea and sour hibiscus tea. Mustard instead of mayo. Hot sauce instead of ketchup. When having a sweet fit just eat a teaspoon of granulated sugar or have a mexican hot chocolate made with hot water and no milk and only a little honey. You need to break from sweets. Slice your apples before eating them and try different varieties to see which you like best. A little exercise is better than no exercise. Try five minutes and then ten. You will find you want to up it as you go along... like you will actually want to. If you have no money you can make weights by filling juice or water jugs that have comfortable handles with water or sand. Do arm reps and squats with these while you watch TV. Listen to music or podcasts and walk if you can but be sure to find stairs or a good hill to use as part of your walking pattern. When you fall off the wagon don’t beat yourself up but just get back on it. Drink nice cold water. Keep jars in the fridge if you can.

I bought a second knock-off one for $7 for when I was traveling.
Peel and spiralize the beets in the sink to contain mess. You can run the water to keep your hands rinsed and spiralize the beets into a bowl of water to contain the juice.
Dress the drained spiralized beets with balsamic vinegar oil dressing containing a dab of dijon mustard and a drip of honey. You can use cider vinegar and regular mustard if that is what you have. Nice with chunks of cheese and pieces of walnut mixed in.
If you can find yellow beets they are far less messy. They make for good ramen etc. if you spiralize and lightly sauté them.
https://www.amazon.com/Microplane-40020-Classic-Zester-Mine is something like this. I chose stainless so it doesn't rust. It doesn't need to be brand sensitive, a generic label will do.
Grater/dp/B00004S7V8/ref=sr_1_5?crid=HROL9X7XCNSH&keywords=microplane&qid=1658155244&sprefix=microplane%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-5&th=1
I recommend a cross-cut hand spiralizer… the Oxo spiralizer gives a large square cut noodle as opposed to the type you get from a pencil sharpener style spiralizer https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Handheld-Spiralizer-Green/dp/B013KAW5IQ
For garlic I use a lemon zest grater right over the pan when cooking, it's super fast and you just need to rince the thing straight away.
Always in the mood...
That kind of thing
I have this one. Used it for a bunch of cheeses, and tried it with Ginger (it doesn't work). No metal grating metal issues yet.
I use this stainless steel grater. I have had much better luck using this compared to any press I’ve tried.
These
you kind of have to draw file them for it to be effective.
thats a sureform style planer/rasp for use on wood. one specific version of this planer/rasp saw that these were actually really popular with chefs and decided to market the market their planer/rasp specifically to chefs. funny enough, they are still popular for wood you just have to buy them in the kitchen isle instead of the tool isle. the microplane
You can find it on Amazon, but it seems to be out of stock (or it's because of the country I live in?) No more talking here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Paladone-PP0562-Cheesus-Christ-Grater/dp/B00913KLVA?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
Thanks! It’s certainly not my most complex creation but it came out well. Basically a micro plane is a brand of grater/zester which creates very small pieces. They are about 10 bucks on Amazon. It just really extracts all of the flavor from the garlic. I just quickly grate a clove into the pan while the butter and oil are heating and the garlic will brown by the time the meat is added. Instead of that harsh garlic taste it is far smoother and more complex because it has spent so long in the pan. Here is a link to the grater I use. They make ones with handle but I prefer this one.
Have you tried using a Mouli cheese grater? We used one when I was a kid. I did find a similar grater at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ZYLISS-Classic-Rotary-Cheese-Grater/dp/B01HX6HAK6/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=moulin+grater&qid=1607147345&sr=8-4
Rotary cheese graters are perfect for topping dishes with grated cheese and you don't have to worry about grating your fingers.
For anyone who want to buy one of these beauties they’re on Amazon in the UK, probably other countries too - Paladone Cheesus Christ Grater https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00913KLVA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WCryCb58M5QA0
