I really love the Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector. It is a deep conditioning treatment that's put in BEFORE shampooing. Your hair will be as soft as silk. They recommend using 1 or 2 times a week, depending on how damaged the hair is. I frequently have mine bleached/highlighted and I use it once a week, leaving it in 5-10 min before shampooing out.
You can get it from Amazon but I noticed a few months ago that Sephora started selling small bottles up near the checkout area.
This one!!!! Better than olaplex and it’s way cheaper Elizavecca CER-100 Collagen Coating Hair Protein Treatment 100ml / hair treatment before and after / hair pack before and after / hair mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I2ZQJSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_XoK8FbGZ58SB8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
id suggest grabbing a couple packets of the malibu hard water wellness treatment off amazon and using that first, it will help remove the buildup so you get the full benefit of your other treatments - your hair will just overall feel a LOT better too. :) They're about 3-4 bucks each.
Its really easy to use, just shampoo, rinse, then mix the powder in the packet with water (use distilled for best results) and scrub it into the hair for 5 minutes before rinsing again. Then you can do your olaplex treatment without worries.
Longterm, sprite makes a great filter you can put on your showerhead (its really easy to install, just screws right on) from Lowes for about $20 that will filter out all the mineral buildup.
I’ve had psoriasis on my scalp as long as I can remember. The amount flaking and the never ending itch was indescribable. But these past 5 or 6 months since using MG217 shampoo and I have ZERO itch and flakes. I don’t even have the patches anymore. Anyway, I don’t know if you have it on your scalp, but just Incase you ever want to try this, I can’t help but stop what I’m doing and recommend this to a fellow psoriasis sufferer. Link on Amazon
OP This stuff is absolute magic - I buy the 12 packs on Amazon here. We have super hard water and I swear I forgot what my hair was supposed to feel like until I used these. I kept buying clarifying shampoos and thought I just wasn’t washing well enough, but it was hard water the whole time 💀
If you have well water or just not that great city water Malibu Hard Water treatments are a lifesaver.
Moved from pretty good city water to well water last year and my hair suffered. Weighed down, tangled more easily, etc. Used that treatment 2 weeks ago and my hair is so much softer and voluminous.
It is somewhat drying so I did follow it up with their Miracle Repair but I didn’t see anything too special with the Miracle Repair that my regular hair masks wouldn’t cover.
Something to look into is Jamaican Black Castor Oil...I am not for sure if it works but the pictures are amazing! I was looking for something to help grow my eyelashes and bought this bottle off Amazon. I can’t say if it works for hair growth because I had to stop using it. It was migrating into my eyes and I’m not trying to go blind for long eyelashes. It isn’t expensive at all, so it can’t hurt to try.
I'm young so if you'll take my advice with a grain of salt but with a teaspoon of trust that'd be nice.
Take your time trying to find a nice smelling smpoo for the days you don't wear parfum, and if you find a parfum you like try to find a shampoo that will compliment your parfum. So it will enhance your over all smell, plus it makes you feel a lil fancy.
(Off topic kind of) I'll leave a linkconditioner to the conditioner I use that will leave your hair softer and shinier than you've ever imagined, it helped me boost my confidence and it doesn't have a smell so the shampoos smell takes over.
The name sounds weird and i know you said your hygiene is fine but when I was discovering Parfums and fancy smelling stuff, a good conditioner without a smell helped.
And a personal parfum recommendation is jo malone Peony and blush suede it's very feminine and soft without being overbearing and cliche.
Invest in a good hair mask. It's a temporary solution but also a cheaper one. Olaplex has a really good bonding mask that helps with frizz. There is also a really good protein one on Amazon that I also like: https://smile.amazon.com/Elizavecca-CER-100-Collagen-Coating-Treatment/dp/B01I2ZQJSG?pd_rd_w=OzYMO&pf_rd_p=306cc3dd-f716-4afe-8aeb-47781d60c63f&pf_rd_r=4XXJHGYWNM24G0Q4EX2N&pd_rd_r=2d21b977-176d-4fa0-8259-1d3c33623fdd&pd_rd_wg=vbwmq&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_csi_vtp_0_t
Sorry I can't do the actual detangling but if you are close to Humble/Atascocita I can give you a detangling brush, a bottle of conditioner, and a tube of this, that stuff is amazing, use it after your hair is detangled and it will help it from knotting up again.
Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil has really good reviews and can help with hair loss (mostly by thickening up the existing and encouraging growth with the remaining hair - I think). Check out the reviews on Amazon.
Also, a vibrating shampoo brush can help stimulate blood flow to the scalp and might help with hair growth? I like MARNUR-Massager. I tried the Vitality one, but it broke after a few uses.
I was just looking at that a moment ago on Amazon. The reviews are horrifying! I don't understand why some people swear by it and others say it ruined their hair!
As someone whose curls last forever, I have two suggestions. First, I never use mousse or hairspray as they weigh my hair down and actually make my curls fall out much faster. I only use a heat protectant. Second, your hair could be lacking protein. Hair that has too much moisture will not hold curls. All of a sudden this summer my hair wouldn’t hold a curl and I realized I had been over moisturizing. I tried a protein treatment and my hair went back to normal, even better. Try a protein treatment. This is the one I use https://www.amazon.com/Elizavecca-CER-100-Collagen-Coating-Treatment/dp/B01I2ZQJSG/ref=asc_df_B01I2ZQJSG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459729839407&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14389960480780855876&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hv...
I love this one from Cantu. I’ve also been recently experimenting with the Shea Moisture brand, but I’m not a fan. I’m not sure if it’s the leave in’s fault or maybe I’m not using the “smoothie” right. I know other people swear by it. So, it probably just really depends on your hair and application technique.
I would use this site to find a salon in your area that has olaplex. The cheapest price it should be for the service is $30 with out blow drying or styling. If you don't have a salon near you carrying olaplex i would go into the salon appointment with coconut oil in your hair, I personally use it before bleaching and have seen that it damages my hair less. You can also buy olaplex on amazon for $26 but it is used for after bleaching like a leave in conditioner. Since your hair is dark brown, the hair dresser may have to bleach your hair in several sessions to maintain the integrity of you hair. This may leave your hair an orangey shade until your next bleaching session. It will probably cost you around $300 or more if you want silver hair that will turn out healthy and shiny. You can always diy silver hair at home but it may leave your hair damaged and the color may look dull. Edit: you should also try leaving coconut oil in your hair as a mask once a week to help repair it and keep it shiny.
Olaplex Number 3 is available on Amazon. It's crazy expensive at over $8 USD per ounce, but the damage repair it offers to bleached hair is incredible. Olaplex sells other hair products like shampoo and conditioner, but Olaplex No. 3 us the only hair treatment product of theirs that is sold to consumers without a cosmetologist license.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Mane Choice Growth Oil. Keep manipulation of those hairs to a minimum (tapers, fades, line-up etc.) and manage expectations. You’re not going to have a lush hairline in that area (probably due to genetics) but it should fill in quite nicely. Be patient.
Could you swing about $4 on Amazon before payday?
Malibu C makes this one time use product to remove hard water build up. They also make a hard water shampoo and conditioner that get good reviews, but they're like $17 bucks a pop so you might want to wait on that part.
I also once read Suave conditioner has an ingredient that chelates chlorine. I have no evidence of this, it's just something I read somewhere, but I don't think it would hurt to soak your hair in some conditioner if that's all you're able to do atm.
I have had luck with L’Oréal Elvive and if you can splurge, It’s a 10 Silk (just be warned if you don’t care for strong fragrance.
I was victim to gummy hair too.
Gummy hair generally needs more protein. What’s helped me immensely:
Hi Pro Pac:

Lamellar water. I’m almost out of the Redken one
I’m switching to the L’Oréal Elvive wonder water to try it out since it’s a lot cheaper. Currently also use their leave in protein conditioner/ heat protectant
For shampoo and conditioner I use the L’Oréal Elvive Total Repair Extreme set. Also the Ion Effective Care Repair set. Would I be better off using a more high end brand? Yeh sure. Once I finish both sets of these I’ll look into another brand.
When treating hair, make sure to focus on the back of your head too. That’s the worst gummy area for me, especially since it’ll take way longer to dry when sleeping.
I shampoo, lamellar water, hi pro pac, condition. I like coconut oil too.
I’ve made great progress with these products
If you're thinking about olaplex, you might try this first. It's under $10. I've ordered it but haven't got it yet. The reviews are promising though
Elizavecca cer-100 collagen coating hair protein treatment 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I2ZQJSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_i_T72YB2A3VEY7Y6YFEKBN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s an absolute pain in the ass. But I just found an affordable protein treatment similar to olaplex. I used it on Monday and my curls are still so defined. I suggest you try it! I got it on Amazon
I still get a couple here and there. I honestly just started washing my hair more often. I wasn’t washing it as much because of the hair loss at first and that’s when they got bad. One thing that I personally have found that works for me is this HASK brand tea tree and rosemary shampoo. It’s worked great for my scalp and is really soothing. I then use this shampoo and conditioner every other day
PURA D'OR Professional Grade Anti-Hair Thinning 2X Concentrated Actives Biotin Shampoo & Conditioner (16oz x 2), No Sulfates, Clinically Tested, All Hair Types, Men & Women (Packaging may vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D324STG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BX0WWR3SF5ZJ1321H8VG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.
But that’s what worked for me and everyone’s different.
Oh, bullshit. This is just excuse after excuse for why you're not gorgeous despite doing nothing to achieve that. AKA "I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas".
"Anything" to fix your hair costs too much? This stuff is $8 and it's amazing. Plus you can go a few years without styling and dyeing your hair, it will grow back and be healthy again. Not-styling and not-dyeing? Is free.
And you COULD go to the gym with her, or exercise at home, for fitness if not thinness. You don't have to do a full makeup routine-- you can get lash extensions or use mascara and use lipstick and get your brows done. Those three things alone will make a giant difference.
She might be into too-young fashion but there are ways to put outfits together that makes you look fantastic vs. schlubby. There's a difference between dressing and styling an outfit. You could put the effort into learning, but you won't.
This hang-dog attitude screams for therapy. YTA
I use this which a more expensive version of the one mentioned in the pinned guide
Can't say if it does anything but it has a nice ingredient list.
I use this. I did a lot of searching and this honestly came up time and time again. When I finally had my dermatologist appt she asked what I was using and I told her . She said good, that’s actually one I recommend. Since I’ve been using it I’ve had a little less shedding so far and my hairs felt a lot better. I’ve only had it for about a week !

I had scalp psoriasis but this shampoo cleared it up for me. It smells bad though a little like burning tires..
TendSkin works well but it burns a bit, I like letting it dry and then topping with a layer of finipil which my esthetician recommended. It also fights razor burn and has a cooling sensation https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C4YJL96/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_VQJKHX87B2JQAE1XR287
It’s the elizavecca hair treatment protein mask! It’s not suggested to use protein on your hair very often so I use it as a replacement for a conditioner like every couple/few weeks. It’s really nice for dry and damaged hair, I can really tell a difference. Here’s an Amazon link if you want to try it out: Elizavecca cer-100 collagen coating hair protein treatment 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I2ZQJSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_RVPK4K35FGV3G5FH07A6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Olaplex no. 3 made a huge difference in my hair when it was damaged from bleach. It’s expensive but you don’t need a ton so it lasts awhile. Olaplex Hair Perfector No 3 Repairing Treatment https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SNM5US4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_R93DNXBAS56JMV045RX2
It takes time to recover from damaged hair, just be patient and make sure the hair is getting lots of moisture. Other than that, I’d suggest she stop getting her hair done at Ulta. I know it’s less expensive usually, but I’ve never heard a good hair story from Ulta.
